Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

Women simply can't do it because they lack the upper body strength even with training and conditioning, and that comes down to simple differences in the frame of the female body since you draw a longbow mainly with your back and shoulders and not so much your arms.
That was kind of my point, although you articulated it better. It is entirely incompatible with a female to be able to use an English longbow even given the fact that some females were actually very adept at archery. It was a heavy weapon, only to be used by heavy dudes, using heavy muscles in every parts of their male bodies. There's a reason English defenses made sure to preserve their longbowmen. Losing even one meant you lost an entire lifetime of training and discipline.

Tbf, as far as I can find Meridas bow was actually a shorter recurve bow, which should be a lot more women-friendly than an english longbow

I suddenly remembered Eight Crazy Nights has a scene where Adam Sandler fucks his car.

Is this how Transformers are made?

Merida's bow is a recurve and recurves are both easier to draw for a given poundage and produce velocity more efficiently than a straight limbed bow. Even a 55 pound recurve is strong enough to kill bears, moose, elk, basically any North American animal and so Scottish game would stand zero chance even against a lighter bow. Plus, the highland Scots were known to use recurve bows rather than the English style longbow (which is technically a Welsh longbow but I digress) according to multiple manuscripts and pictographical evidence that we have access to.

My main issue with Brave is that archery is poorly integrated into the story. It exists as a character quirk and is a leftover from the draft idea being “the bear and the bow”. It’s not really built up as something important. It looks cool, but is basically for the meme of female archer.

I looked it up and supposedly the female writer said it was about her and her like 8 year old daughter. I am calling horseshit. It is unresolved mommy issues and the writer being angry at her mom. The story sounds like she was angry at her own mother for pushing her to get married rather than prioritizing her career.

I wouldn’t mind it if there was something to it, but it just seems so pointless.

We've been cycling through Toy Story movies.

Toy Story 1 (1995): 9.5/10
Perfect movie... Other than that the human charas look abysmal. BUT that is bc it was the first 3D animated movie and no one knew what they were doing. Perfect story. Appealing. I like this a lot more than some of the other installations simply bc there is inclusion of non-toy objects that are nostalgic like the baby monitor and such.
ETA: Sid is an ARTIST and his only crime is stealing and destroying his little sister's toys.

Toy Story 2 (1999): 8.5/10
The feeling of Woody discovering he was an idol is so cool. Like reverse Buzz in this movie. Then Stinky Pete being mint in box is such a misdirection cuz you think that makes him special, but then you just realize he's a slime ball and it suits him. Also I HAD NO IDEA JESSIE AND WOODY WERE SIBLINGS until the fourth or fifth time around (it's not stated in the movie, is it?). Their behavior toward each other is really endearing and funny. I LOVE Gerry's scene where he repaints and fixes Woody.

Toy Story 3 (2010): 10/10
Magnum opus. Perfect "ending" to the franchise. I love Lotso bc he feels like he was meant to be a Care Bear (I had a scented doll like him as a kid), and him being replaced with a new doll just like him triggering his heartlessness was so good. Very thematic for a "care bear" stand-in. The baby doll gets me every time prob bc I'm a mum now and my daughter plays with baby dolls. Barbie and Ken's interactions are my favorite. Really funny for Ken to be straight and loves Barbie, but accidentally does feminine things. The dump/incinerator scene is soooo intense and awesome. One of the best scenes in any film everrrrr.

Toy Story 4 (2019): 5/10
Forky doesn't piss me off as much as Bo Peep's redesign. Though tbh I think Forky should have gone in the trash at the end of the film. I made lots of toys as a kid with crafts and once they fell apart or I got bored I threw them away. Like why don't the crafts in the daycare in Toy Story 3 come alive? Why aren't kites or pieces of paper with doodles on them alive? Are Christmas ornaments alive? Anyway Gabby and her Vincents were cool. I used to go to an antique store that looked just like the antique store in the movie... Buzz got lobotomized and it's so bad. The worst part of the movie. As soon as Buzz starts acting stupid, I felt like the writers didn't care to watch the first 3 films. Cool environments and ideas but ugh. The stupid Polly Pocket that isn't Polly pisses me off. I also HATE the Key & Peele stuffed animals. So unnecessary. Not much to say abt this film. Feels completely un-needed.

Ya based on my ratings I'd rather rewatch Ferngully over Toy Story 4, and idgaf. Hexxus is better than being annoyed by Key & Peele and de-feminized Bo Peep.

I honestly kind of want to see the movie again just so I can re-evaluate it myself.

My memory of it is pretty vague, I only remember a handful of scenes and snippets from it. That being...

>Childhood scene where the girl and mom play with each other

>Girl is excited about archery in one scene

>there's a tall lanky dude with a big nose named Macintosh

>I think the dad was scarred from an Enemy Bear encounter in the prologue. I know he lost something but I forgot what it was. Eye? Leg? Arm? It's hazy.

>Flashback lore scene where the bear is described as being a dude who gave up his soul to have "the strength of 20 men" or something.

>Mommy issues throughout the movie, but the girl and mom make up in the end.

I really don't remember any cool archery action at all from the movie, which is a bummer because that's exactly why I was excited to watch the movie as a kid. Probably explains why it was so forgettable for me at the time.

It could've been like that scene from(southland?) Where two cars fuck each other in a parody commercial.
Oh hey I love Southland Tales. A friend of mine showed it to me earlier this year, and I enjoyed it a lot. Really batshit insane but also very fun - it's like Team America if it were directed by David Lynch.

REMEMBER - Epstein didn't kill himself because he was a pimp. And pimps do NOT commit suicide!

The back end was ether the lady cars asshole or pussy.
Yes I was thinking about that scene
Car cock fucks car pussy. It's absurd.

I love Donnie Darko (theatrical) though. Too bad the director is a one hit wonder. I'd love to see something animated with similar bizarre themes of death.

It's always going to be TS2 for me, but the first one is a classic. I don't mind 3 and 4 I thought was insane in terms of animation, but I haven't felt the need to rewatch it since. Haven't seen 5 yet.

I don't like toy story 2 despite it being my favorite as a kid. I loved Jessie and the old man scene and zerg but it's definitely not a great follow-up to the first movie. There's also a lot of ideas and scenes they ended up cutting out of 2 since it may have been rushed.

I think it didn't need to become a franchise. 3 isn't that great. The villains are meh. It's everywhere. It's a satisfying ending but so was the first film. It didn't need more, like most things.

Disney should've stayed with 2d animation and 3d.

Toy Story 2 (1999)
I mentioned this in an earlier post, but Toy Story 2 was one of the few VHS tapes my brother and I got to watch whenever we slept over at our grandma's house. There are a shitton of lines I can remember off the top of my head.
Are Christmas ornaments alive?
Actually... yes. Go check out Toy Story That Time Forgot. While it was made after 3, it does confirm that Christmas decorations are alive like toys.

What personally bothers me about Bo's redesign is that the opening has her planning out rescue operations with Woody, yet Woody himself is supposed to be surprised by how proactive Bo is when they reunite years later.

I recall one short where the bear lands in a nacho chip factory with identical nachos, but still wanted that ONE nacho chip.
Okay, it wasn't a nacho chip factory but a truck full of nacho chips. You're probably thinking, why THAT particular chip? Think of it like a dog chasing its own tail. At that point, it's so you could say you've caught the damn thing. I don't blame the bear.

Supposedly they hate Buzz because Tim Allen is Conservative. Not trying to politisperg, but animation people are supposedly all fucking insane and Rashida Jones just invited in the worst type of female writers after they ousted John “timing my hugs so I can get the topography of your tits” Lassiter.

I thinking Lassiter did hold the worst of it back, but even before Pixar’s original ideas had run out. After 2011 Pixar basically was stuck with sequels, women trauma dumping, and prequels.

Now I remember. Cartoon Network used to have something called "Wedgies" in 2008. Basically, they'd have cartoon shorts that'd air between their regular lineups. Nacho Bear was one of them.

Fun fact, The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack started off as a "wedgie," but that was the only "wedgie" short that was picked up to be its original own cartoon series.
