My main issue with Brave is that archery is poorly integrated into the story. It exists as a character quirk and is a leftover from the draft idea being “the bear and the bow”. It’s not really built up as something important. It looks cool, but is basically for the meme of female archer.
I looked it up and supposedly the female writer said it was about her and her like 8 year old daughter. I am calling horseshit. It is unresolved mommy issues and the writer being angry at her mom. The story sounds like she was angry at her own mother for pushing her to get married rather than prioritizing her career.
I wouldn’t mind it if there was something to it, but it just seems so pointless.
I honestly kind of want to see the movie again just so I can re-evaluate it myself.
My memory of it is pretty vague, I only remember a handful of scenes and snippets from it. That being...
>Childhood scene where the girl and mom play with each other
>Girl is excited about archery in one scene
>there's a tall lanky dude with a big nose named Macintosh
>I think the dad was scarred from an Enemy Bear encounter in the prologue. I know he lost something but I forgot what it was. Eye? Leg? Arm? It's hazy.
>Flashback lore scene where the bear is described as being a dude who gave up his soul to have "the strength of 20 men" or something.
>Mommy issues throughout the movie, but the girl and mom make up in the end.
I really don't remember any cool archery action at all from the movie, which is a bummer because that's exactly why I was excited to watch the movie as a kid. Probably explains why it was so forgettable for me at the time.
It could've been like that scene from(southland?) Where two cars fuck each other in a parody commercial.
Oh hey I love Southland Tales. A friend of mine showed it to me earlier this year, and I enjoyed it a lot. Really batshit insane but also very fun - it's like Team America if it were directed by David Lynch.
REMEMBER - Epstein didn't kill himself because he was a pimp. And pimps do NOT commit suicide!
