Strange Journey Redux
That also had its own version of Prime Time which was the Commander Skill
I have a (very bad) feeling that P6 is going to just be a JJK ripoff with a woke subplot since the protag seems like he might be mixed-race(or they're just gonna give him a Yuji haircut once he invokes his 'sona since one of the leakers said "there's a reason he looks like a blank slate") - the female deuteragonist even looks like Megumi

the inspiration design-wise seems to be JJK, Ghost Hunter shows, and Clockwork Orange. either way, with the absolute state of anime that touch on the same themes(DanDaDan and JJK specifically) I don't have high hopes at all.
Occult media has always been really popular in Japan and P2 also dealt with similar themes like rumors, conspiracies, cults, etc. but I have no doubt that Atlus will neuter the fuck out of P6 in comparison.

well yes, but the sort of shit that's popular now is basically only some anime and vidyas. there just straight up isn't stuff like Mu magazine or the New Religions Movement that actually inspired early Persona/MegaTen games(and all the zoomer mangaka that are churning out this slop that P6 will likely reference aren't even referencing those OG sources, they're referencing the cultural ephemera left behind by the OG's at this point)

P6 is probably going to be a dumbed down mess as well.
Definitely, I was in shock when P5 kept nailing me with tutorials and having teammates explaining basic mechanics all the way through the final palace. Felt like a daycare after just playing the mainline games and Etrian Odyssey for years.

These games have never been difficult.

Tedious and time consuming? Yes. But never something that needed "skill".

I think he didn't review them because persona has been talked to death on youtube and he wants to give the more obscure megaten games a time in the spotlight.

That's fine. However, every video about Persona on YouTube sucks.

You're talking about vibes retard not to mention that art is the most subjective thing and I LOVE CHINKS I LOVE CHINK DICK WESTERN BAD PEDO CHINK GUD CHINK SLOP 4 LIFE

This cannot be said when Strange Journey Redux exists. You can effortlessly autobattle through the vast majority of that game if you don't crank the difficulty, and the only things that can realistically stop you are enemies with Physical resistances making it faster to throw a spell or two.

I am kinda pissed off that Redux locked like 50 side quests that can kick your nuts + additional harder difficulty + that fucking Owl demon despite being on several covers behind a New Gams Plus.

I tried Devil Survivor and it was quite a challenge, one major tip to be able to go through it is to become racist. Not paying attention to Demon race can get you in serious trouble

This is something that really needs to be said and hammered in constantly. This problem is so ubiquitous that Kaneko's design for Asherah was assumed to be a reference to the Dadas from Ultraman.

Turns out it was actually inspired by the Black-Eyed Peas. Older Japanese artists had much more varied inspirations.

Part of it is Persona has always been easy, but the other issue is Atlus remakes always add mechanics to neuter difficulty.
I remember original Strange Journey to be ballbustingly hard. Persona 3 was also hard but mainly due to RNG possibly fucking you sideways.

I remember reading here about the original writers having some Jew sperging. It was a much better time for schitzo shit. Even modern horror is sanitized.

The racial abilities in that game were really good design. Made demons more than simple stat blocks with the occasional unique skill.

Part of the reason was that if the protagonist died, the game was over, so something like Nekomata in Carina could wreck you if you dared autobattle because it had physical resistance + Retaliate. This was why the Gore fight was nasty, he deliberately used a Charge + a huge physical on the MC explicitly to fuck you over.

So what does Redux do? Give you a free subapp extremely early on that makes it so that the protagonist dying does not end the game immediately.

I can't really agree because there were races whose racial skill was so bad it actually made them detrimental to use in practice. Evil Wave on Dragons is particularly awful when Devil Speed exists. To say nothing of Chaos Wave.

It is very obvious some racial skills existed just to make enemy teams more annoying, without much thought as to how they would affect players.

You were never going to play it anyways.

What a weird thing to say.

they have two of the hardest turn based battles in history, the king for literal decades was Digital Devil Saga Part 2's, Demi-Fiend.
Part... what? Demi-Fiend was in the first game.

He also wasn't hard, just RNG. All you had to do was hope Dormina hit somebody, then loop the Pixie into not having enough MP to cast Dekunda. Once you did this the fight was over because you could debuff his stats into the ground and then spam Last Word and such on him.

Demi-fiend is hard if you don't cheese him with the red star strat.
Satan on the other hand can go fuck himself, he is less of a rpg boss and more of a math problem with you having to constantly keep tabs on how much health he has left on a game that tells you jack, so i hope you got some pen and paper on you boyo.

Demi-Fiend deserves to be cheesed because the Dormina is effectively sheer RNG. If you roll such that it does not put one of your dudes to sleep to use Null Sleep to null Gaea Rage, it's over (okay technically you can survive one via Endure but still).

You can talk a lot of shit about Satan, but he is not RNG to the same degree.

I remember looking up vids on YT on how to defeat him that went up to like 18 parts because it was essentially just spamming Salvation, Charge and Last World over and over again and then just stacking up on revives. Its not hard just incredibly repetitious.

coming up with a strategy to beat him IS the difficulty, its easy to google the strategy but doing so on your own is the point, its a puzzle, and also RNG.

i need to hear him shout "HE CAN'T KEEP GETTING AWAY WITH IT"
Allow me to larp a bit, but my ideal Persona game is basically Breaking Bad from the POV of Walt Jr. I thought Dojima would be the killer in p4 early on, and the game would be all about being betrayed by those who are supposed to protect you.

Imagine a game about a bunch of jap delinquents awakening their personas and going on some dumb-ass scooby doo dungeon crawl only for the big twist at the end to be "actually, your dad who you've been avoiding the whole game is the Serial Killer/Ghost Terrorist/Big Baddie"
