I have no problem mocking the people who invested too much of themselves into this show, it goes beyond just laughing at the "nerds", the people who put their heart and politics into this, like the people loved Blonde Dragon Queen because she was a real kween slaying for change and a STRONG WOMYN...some people made loving comparisons to Hillary Rodham Clinton ,unironically unable to appreciate what that meant. It's one thing to be disappointed but the people who are taking this a little too seriously, and melting down because a white cismale ended up in charge instead of a totally badass #GirlBoss like Danyeras or whoever they favored, and so on and so forth - these people obsessed over it and elevated GoT to something more than a mere TV show in their minds.
I’ve seen nerd-rage and catlady-rage before, but it feels different this time, more desperate and despairing.
A lot of people have such lofty expectations from their pop-cultural feed these days. They really do expect profound catharsis every time one of these mass audience spectacles comes rolling around. It's not enough for the series they fetishize to come to an at least decent conclusion. No, no, no, the ending has to be profound AND meaningful AND properly flatter their biases AND come to an end so cathartic it sends a massive dopamine rush through their brain that justifies the amount of time and feels they've invested and allow them a
peak experience. It's never going to be satisfying to them, they're going to keep chasing after it, seeking it in mindless stimulation, a cycle of consuming product and getting excited for next products.
