Oddly enough, you hit on two of my biggest complaints with DS and the fanbase.
I like The Surge, but one thing it gets shit on for is the abundance of humanoid enemies. There's two problems with that criticism. First is the game is designed around targeting and chopping off certain limbs to steal their armour, so humanoid enemies make sense. But second, Dark Souls has a shit ton of knights, zombies, and more knights, but you're not supposed to mention that.
The epic boss fights that get hyped up are also pretty bad. They boil down to walking backwards and dodge rolling until they end their over long combo, at which point you can get a poke in. Advice like creating your openings with parries doesn't really work since what can and can't be parried is left up to trial and error, and even then it's common to be hit through a parry.
