I don't know. Maybe? There's been an animated series or movie almost every year since 2012, along with whatever merchandise Nickelodeon is shoving at them.

I'd argue that it's because the animation is shit that there's really nothing to talk about BUT April's obvious race-swap fat appearance.

There was even a panel where April went from straight to perm, and asked the turtles how she looked. Razorfist (someone already posted it and Rippa of all people actually did detailed videos covering this.

This is just another episode of hollow representation due to creative bankruptcy. They’ll just say “we had an April that was black” and then move on.

Yes to Irma, but she’d become the secretly hot type everyone somehow ignores per the usual creator self insertions. Think like how all the losers latched into Velma instead of Daphne.

She was created specifically for the 1988 cartoon, so I'm not sure if Viacom has the sole rights to the character or not. Fred Wolf notoriously sued Mirage and Playmates back in the day for making merchandise based on the Neutrinos and not giving him a cut of the profits.

Nick really likes the ugly, yet shit like Ren & Stimpy, Angry Beavers, CatDog, Invader Zim, Jimmy Neutron, Back at the Barnyard and Fanboy & Chum Chum are actually very likeable shows.

Yeah well those are dumb comedic shows, not action comic booky type things like TMNT, which need good looking characters to sell the action.

April looks incredibly weak and out of shape with this new iteration, definitely not a strong woman, and definitely not appealing.

Guys, guys, April has been reinterpreted many times. This one is just as valid as all the others:

* Mirage: Computer programmer and small business owner
* Fred Wolf/Movies: Investigative TV reporter, best in the city
* 4Kids: Lab assistant and small business owner
* 2012 Nickelodeon: Teenage girl, trained by Splinter to be a kunoichi
* Platinum Dunes: Um, still a reporter, I think
* Rise of the TMNT: Black

Okay, I take it back. This one isn't as valid as all the others. It's more valid. Look how far we've come from the dark ages of the 1980s!

All fat people look the same to me.

God this really just reminds me I just don't like looking at fat and ugly people. I see enough fat people in real life when I'm on the train or just walking around the street, I don't need to see fat and ugly people when I watch movies or cartoons.
