The whole fucking plothook to Village just didn't make any sense to me at all. Chris and his goons bust into his house in the middle of the fucking night, riddle his wife with bullets, Chris himself comes in and for good measure puts a couple more in her fucking dome while she's on the floor, Ethan understandably freaks the fuck out and Chris just goes... "Sorry bro" and "Ethan, no!", and makes no fucking effort whatsoever to explain himself, why he's there, what he's doing, what just happened, etc.
I bet the actual plot came after the scene was first conceptualized, they wanted a shocking even in the trailer to make audiences perk up and take notice.
I really don't mind dumb storytelling in RE games.
Naturally, I would prefer if the writing was better, but it clearly always takes a backseat to the meat and potatoes of the gameplay, and the gameplay loop of exploration, resource management, puzzle solving, treasure hunting and weapon upgrading is as addictive as it always has been.
RE9 had an equally dumb, nonsensical plot. Leon is in pursuit of a bioterrorist, he escapes his clutches, he has a communication device that links him directly to Sherry, so why isn't nobody calling in backup to contain what is obviously a BOW outbreak? Why aren't cops, or the military, or the BSAA rushing to the hospital to gun down the zombies?
Also, why didn't Leon ask Sherry if Grace had made it out of the hospital? You'd think, what with him begin so obsessed with being unable to save people, he'd check the rookie FBI agent managed to make it out alive and contacted the authorities.
It's a repeat of RE4 - Leon has located the president's daughter, she's with him, but apparently the US government can't muster anything more than a Huey to come to their rescue, despite the fact the US has multiple bases in Spain, and the Spanish government themselves have both police and military forces around.
The spectacle takes precedence over the substance. Just turn your brain off when it comes to the story, the harder you think about any of it, the dumber it gets. The big white intro letters when Leon gets to Racoon City in RE9 were awesome, I have to admit that.
