Camp Cretaceous came out today and it was actually pretty good. I'd recommended it if anyone was interested in checking it out.

How is it on the demographic scale? Like, is it more on the level of a "for kids" Saturday morning cartoon or is it slightly more all-ages? I wasn't super excited about it because it seemed more like it was meant for children (and it's on Netflix which I don't like or subscribe to), but if it's at least more of a family show I might see if I can't catch a glimpse of it on the high seas. Did they just release the first episode of the series or did they release it all at once?

Also Jurassic World: Aftermath was announced and it's a virtual reality survival horror game with a funny art style. Don't know how I feel about that either. I just want a third-person open world island survival game for once.

It is targeted for a younger audience but there is some surprising tense scenes for a kids show. I won't spoil stuff but there is deaths in it, not on screen off-course. There a bunch of stuff that ties it to the first World movie and some stuff that could come back in the third one. The whole season was released and each episode is about 24 minutes.

From what I recall of the Fallen Kingdom ending the narration implies 'humanity is now forced to share the world' with the dinosaurs now though I assumed the same. It wasn't that many set loose but there were enough stupid things in that movie for me to assume it was just poor writing.

Since Jurassic Park was always meant to be a cautionary tale, I hope the next movie ends with dinosaurs now inhabiting the Earth again and mankind simply has to learn to live it, that would seem like a fitting end for the series to me.

Ah what the hell, I'll check it out. Got nothing better to do.

It definitely seems to be going the planet of the apes route. I was only half watching fallen kingdom while the Mrs watched it on Netflix and all I remember is that stupid little girl letting them all free at the end.

Looks promising so far the animation is by dreamworks and while it's not dreamworks animated movie levels it is still pretty good for a made for streaming series. Keep in mind even the first movie kept the deaths mostly off screen or at least we're bloodless.

I'm surprised they brought back the resonating chamber of the raptors from jp3 you'd think they'd be trying to abandon everything related to that movie, even though it is just an easter egg.

Ok I Know they (hopefully) meant it as a joke but I seriously was this close to quiting the second I heard "toxic masculinity." Seriously anytime a show movie whatever even ironically mentions that made up word I consider walking out then and there.

Kenji makes me think of Elliot Roger, but not as douchey lol.

I dunno, looks okay so far. My asshole brothers are crowing "IT'S CONTRADICTING" because Dearing mentions in World they haven't had park incidents, but the camp directors called in and got her voicemail so she wouldn't have heard it. But they're not even watching the show with another brother and I, so I'm just ignoring them. But otherwise, not bad. Sammy's totally suspicious, yo lol, like what the hell.

Also lol Ben's voiced by Sean Giambrone. Thought he sounded familiar.

EDIT: Alright, we finished it. Guess it saying "season one" should've been our first clue that this is gonna be a series, but damn, that was pretty fun. I'll take back what I said about Sammy, but it's still fucked how she agreed to go on that island to begin with. Like she's still just a kid, at least with Nedry, he was an adult and had a legit vendetta against Hammond for doing what he did.

Sucks they chickened out on killing off Ben for reals, but if they have the balls, they'll hurt the kids some more. Although I was sitting there thinking "Wait, what did Ben do that would've constituted him getting killed? He hasn't done anything that would mean him getting eaten was karmic punishment."

I do have to question how Bumpy got that big in just, what, 48 hours? They've been injecting the dinosaurs with some kind of growth hormones, aren't they? Think Wu mentioned something about it.

Bro and I will definitely have to keep an eye out for the second season's release. It's honestly a breath of fresh air to see a Netflix original not look like shit, for once. The animation was what you'd expect from the DreamWorks TV animation department (although I think the HTTYD TV shows looked a little better tbh), and the kids weren't annoying despite the dialogue. Think it sucks they went down the "adults are useless" route since typically the adults can actually do something even if they get eaten at the end of the day, but I could let it slide here that the camp directors couldn't always be there for them because of what was going on, and the kids shouldn't have left the camp to begin with, but the show would've ended a lot sooner if they hadn't, so... 🤷‍♀️

So yeah. Glad I watched it. Was nice to see more of the park and see how it tied into the movie with a few events here and there. The scene where Roxie opens up the cabinet to see the walkie-talkies freak out and then go red when the Indominus was massacring the respondents was freaky, won't lie. Pretty neat scene.

It always makes me happy when I can sit down and watch something as an adult and think to myself "Damn, ten year old me would have loved the shit out of this.

I went ahead and watched it last night and you were right imo, it was better than I thought. The kids were irritating and unlikeable at first, always getting in trouble for literally like the first half of the eight episodes, but after the park started to go down and they were absolutely on their own, there was a pleasantly surprising amount of character development done for each of them that made them pretty unique. I actually really liked the episode where they spent almost the entire time just sitting in the monorail after having been through so much, and they are just talking and learning about each other, even as straightforward as it was. I think because of this the season could have been better had there been even just a couple more episodes to provide for further character building. But I am sure there will be more of that if the show gets renewed for a second season.

It was good and like Kari said, I am always excited to see more parts of the island we haven't been to before.

Also the fluorescent Parasaurolophus were fucking cool as shit. A great new way to show more of Wu's genetic engineering fuckery in a manner that reflects the wonder of the place.

Question should this thread also be about non Kaiju dinosaur movies and media in general? Like the lost world (1925) the topps comic book and later animated series Cadillacs and dinosaurs and turok?

I'm a month late, and I don't have an Instagram account and can't pull the storyboard animatics from there, so have a Klayton Fioriti video about how Toro was meant to play a bigger role in Camp Cretaceous.

I was really surprised at how good the netflix show is. Its not fantastic, but better than what I thought it would be. Im mad they didnt kill off thr nerdy kid, It really threw me off guard, its a kid show you know? His survival story with Lumpy was good. Him fighting off the carno with a pointy stick-ehhhh. But you know kids show. I still wish we got the 2d cartoon from the 90s that was planned. The art looked really good

Anyone else use to love Jurassic Park 3 as a kid and never knew why people hated it, but then watch it recently and understand completely?

Oh, has anyone watched the second season of Camp Cretaceous yet? I need to get around to it, didn't know when it was coming out and forgot to look out for it.
