I liked Eureka and Bozja a lot, and spent a lot of time in them both grinding weapons there, but I think this current approach is the most reasonable middle ground for how to do relics, between the opposing extremes of EW relics just being a tome sink and Eureka weapons asking you to spend 10 years in Pagos per weapon.

It provides some amount of reason to be engaged with the game when the content is current, if you want to get your cool glowy weapon (which is tbh the only reason to get one, since the BIS version of the relic weapon comes so late there's nothing to use it for, other than going back to content that anyone who cares about BIS has finished months ago), without making it a completely horrible experience like most old relics are if you want to go back later on and get one for glam reasons.

And I do suspect that this format is going to be how relics basically continue to work, if I've understood correctly how their new gear progression system is meant to work.
"Do the grind once, and you have the current relic step unlocked for all jobs" would integrate very naturally with that.

Playing more, I think I'll main Samurai after playing a bunch of Dragoon and Samurai, and playing a bit of Paladin, Ninja, Bard, and Red Mage. The rotation is really fun for me, and the AOE rotation this early on + bursts with the meter rather than personal buffs is great too.

Got a glamour plate set up for my samurai too after getting the Ifrit (Extreme) katana. I like the look a lot, but I think I've fallen into the trappings of an edgy "when I look at this, I think of Faint by Linkin Park" look. Not like that bothers me.

The last stage of cosmic exploration is SO FUCKING LONG but the effect on my tools is 300% worth it the goofy retarded gamer rgb is so amusing.

My only problem with Samurai is that the skill names are just shit. Like if someone says "Hissatsu: Senei" I have no fucking idea what skill that is or what it does, and I have a level 100 Samurai that I play relatively often. And yes I did have to google a random Samurai skill for that example, because I didn't remember the names of any skills.

I don't remember the name of any skill on any class tbh they're all dumb.

It also does not help that they get constantly replaced per expansion and it's never called out.

DRG has an 8 button combo and fucking ~6 of them get new names/icons randomly through expansions.

From what little I played of SAM at 100 it also just has too many interchangeable skills to remember which all look and feel similar. NIN is all weeaboo names but at least I can remember that Bunshin is the move that makes shadow clones and Raiju is the button what I press after hitting a lightning bolt. Plus I can still say "Mug" instead of "Dokumori".

The only reason why I know some of the more difficult to remember skill names is because they’re also in XI and XIV took them from there.

Also I’m finally free from book hell. Gave up camping and decided server hop until I found one where the FATE was up. Now I’m tossing random cheap materia on the next step. I did an Anima weapon a few months ago and it was a lot easier and less painful. I’m definitely not touching another Zodiac relic again, I just did it due to boredom, bragging rights, and my poetics kept capping and I wanted to burn them on something after I burned another surplus on the EW relic.

speaking as a sam main, its so fucking brain dead its not even worth remembering the names
you just full combo and then do the orange dot when it runs out and then you throw out all the other buttons when the dancer gives you all the buffs and it makes your dick rock hard when you see the damage numbers

>samurai is braindead, gives big numbers on your screen, and brings all the dancers to the yard
Perfect for my frazzled as fuck grug brain! (I just think 2 minute shit is boring as fuck)

Every job is braindead. NIN I enjoy because it at least allows disengagement tools to be shifted around in between the big burst every 2 minutes, but big burst every 2 minutes is still the part that matters, even moreso because NIN's damage is pretty poor outside of it.

So random musing while I was working: I think Hoary Boulder is going to get a job change to the new dual shield tank so he can adventure with us. I'm also maintaining my prediction that DPS Job will be a physical variation on Red Mage based on Livia (martial arts and gun gauntlets) and I think Alisaie will job change as well since she has been a Red Mage since Heavensward. Feel free to call me an autist now.

Yeah, Hoary being voiced and getting 'featured' in post-DT content is a bit...telling.

not totally related but I was just complaining the other day that we never get to use any of the other named scions as duty support. Why can't I team up with Hoary Boulder and co during ARR? Like, I guess they were written to be busy doing other things originally as an excuse for why you needed to find other adventurers, but they can always tweak dialogue to make it work

Indeed. Though iirc the sister is thirsty for both him and his brother. Like wants the Eiffel Tower for sure.
I feel like a highlander chick wanting to get double teamed by 2 roe men while her sister shakes her head disapprovingly is not something that I would've believed to be in the game if I hadn't payed attention and actually spoke to her when she was around.
