Funny you bring this up. I've been talking to the ProtonVPN support (i.e. a bunch of jeets probably) for three months now. Here's the correspondence:
tl;dr: Their explanation for blocking kiwifarms.net was that 1 (formerly 2) out of 97(!) security vendors on virus total (A) flagged kiwifarms.net as unsafe, which is clearly bullshit. I was patient with them for three months but my subscription is running out and I'll just move to another VPN. In my opinion there's a troon somewhere on their team that is blocking this issue from being resolved.

The Proton VPN DNS filters block access to kiwifarms.net, which apparently has falsely been reported as being unsafe.
The site is safe to use, and the alternative domain kiwifarms.st works just fine.
It would be appreciated if you could remove it from the DNS filter as it is a false-positive.

Hello,
Thank you for contacting us.
After investigating further, it looks like this specific domain is flagged by some security vendors as malicious and therefore blocked by the NetShield feature. You can find the full report at the link below:
That said, if you are willing to access this website, feel free to disable the NetShield feature.
If there is anything else I can help you with please do not hesitate to let me know.
Have a nice day!
Kind regards,

Thank you for your reply. The provided link shows that only one out of 97 providers flag the site as unsafe. That's clearly a false positive.
I'd kindly ask you to look into this again and consider unblocking the domain unless it's standard practice for you to block all websites that get flagged by even just one security vendor.
If that is the case then you should also block the domain kiwifarms.st because it's the exact same website, just on a different domain.

Hello,
Thank you for your message.
Upon checking yesterday, there were two security vendors that have flagged this website as malicious. It appears that one of the vendors have changed their flag.
I have now opened an internal ticket so that the team can further check this. Unfortunately, I cannot speculate when this might be resolved, however, once I have an update I will follow up with you to inform you.
We appreciate your patience in this matter.
Kind regards,

Thanks for the reply. Is there any update on this? It's been two weeks and I can see that kiwifarms.net is still inaccessible while kiwifarms.st works fine.

Hello,
Thank you for the follow-up.
From what I could see on my end, the infrastructure team has not implemented a fix for this yet. I let them know you reached back, hopefully they will resolve this soon.
I am sorry for the inconvenience this is causing you at the moment. I will email you as soon as I hear from them.
If you need any additional assistance in the meantime, please don't hesitate to reach out again.

Hello,
it's been another two weeks and there's seemingly been no progress on this. Is it normal for a simple DNS filtering issue to take this long to resolve?
Almost five weeks seems a bit steep for such a trivial problem.

Hello,
Thank you for reaching out.
As I can see in our end, it seems the issue was properly escalated and the infrastructure team is already aware of this.
Some issues like this may take more than others for different websites. I see no specific feedback on my end for this, unfortunately. I am waiting for the team to respond when this is resolved, so I can email you.
Please keep in mind that issues like this may also involve multiple teams to get resolved, depending on what is causing this and who is responsible for what.
I will contact you when I receive an update on this from our team.
I appreciate your patience and understanding regarding this matter.
If you need any additional assistance in the meantime, please don't hesitate to reach out again.
Have a nice day!
Kind regards,

Hello,
is there any update on this? It's been two months since my initial report and three weeks since my last inquiry.
I find it a bit hard to believe that a trivial problem like a false positive takes this long to resolve.
To re-iterate:
- https://kiwifarms.st - works
- https://kiwifarms.net - does not work and is blocked by NetShield
these are both the exact same website, in fact https://kiwifarms.net doesn't even host any content, it's just a redirect to https://kiwifarms.st. Either the latter is a false positive or the former needs to be blocked as well.

It's almost been another month and this issue still has not been resolved.
I do not believe that such a simple issue takes a quarter of a year to address. Which leads me to believe that this is either the result of gross incompetence or the issue intentionally being blocked by someone.
As a result I've decided that I won't renew my subscription and instead move to a different VPN provider.
