Another Proton VPN datapoint: Redirects fine on Brave and Firefox with Netshield turned off.

Tested on Brave Browser v 1.83.112 with standard protection, secure DNS, and default Shields settings, with no VPN. It works.

I can also confirm that ProtonVPN NetShield is still busted, and if this bullshit keeps up, I'll be in the market for a new VPN real soon. Have already filed my complaint.

I use Windscribe VPN. I'm on mobile at the moment so I don't know how that changes things, but the redirect is working fine.

I only mention it because I didn't see Windscribe on the list. Will check pc tomorrow.

Mega VPN with ad blocker does work.

Proton's response to my complaint:

Hi,

Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

I would like to start by reassuring you that we are not purposefully blocking access to certain websites from our end. That said, our team is investigating this at the moment, for any false positives and possible improvements.

In the meantime, you can consider the following options when it comes to accessing the kiwifarms.net website:

  • Temporary disable the NetShield feature before reconnecting and testing again: https://protonvpn.com/support/netshield
  • Or, leave the NetShield enabled, and access the website directly by using the following URL: kiwifarms.st

Let me know how it goes afterward.

Have a nice day!

The complaint volume has definitely been noticed. They even suggest using .st lol.

I'm on ProtonVPN and have had netshield on both "malware only" and "all" and it will block the .net domain. It works just fine with netshield off. It's been like this since 2022 and I have just settled for using the .st domain.

One thing I've noticed about Proton's DNS, it's inconsistent across all servers. For example a high number server (25+) in Virginia has a very incomplete DNS list but Illinois, New York, New Jersey, and California the higher number servers tend to be 50/50 on their DNS lookup. Florida is probably the most reliable. Without getting into details, I've noticed certain .edu domains haven't worked.

If it's a tranny blocklist, they probably would of added .st by now. Who really knows for sure. I'll file a complaint since their DNS have caused me enough grief.

I use mullvad and nextdns

Have confirmed functionality on:

NordVPN (With Advanced Browsing Protection, Anti-Malware, and Ad & Tracker Blocking all set to ON), tested on the latest Chrome, and Edgeium, in a regular browser window and an Incognito window, no extensions enabled, endpoint protection disabled. No problems.

Tested on the latest Chrome, and Chromium, in a regular browser, with extensions uBlock Origin Lite, PrivacyBadger, Popup Blocker, and DecentralEyes, all enabled and set to maximum blocking mode. VPN disabled, and endpoint protection disabled. No problems.

Tested with VPN off, No Extensions. Chrome Incognito window, with Symantec Endpoint Protection, Network and Host Exploit Mitigation, with SmartDNS and Stealth Web Browsing Mode both set to ON. No problems.

NordVPN (all protections enabled), Chrome regular browsing window, with all extensions enabled and set for optimal filtering, and all Symantec Endpoint Protection with all mitigations in place. No problems.

Librewolf with Proton Netshield on does not redirect me. Submitted a complaint. I'll likely get the default response as others have been getting. But I'll continue to submit tickets on the regular for this.

Yeah, I'm gonna have to consider something different VPN wise. I can't exactly change away from them since I use the rest of their products.

Hungarian version of Telekom works.

Firefox, duckduckgo and adblocker browsers work on phone.

Fireforce, Brave works on pc. Brave had to reload the Kiwi DDOS Retarding but eventually it worked.

Última edición:
Tested Firefox with DoH with Max Protection via NextDNS: Works.
Tested Chrome via standard Cloudflare (no VPN, no DoH but OpnSense with CrowdSec): Works.
Tested Brave via Blokada VPN: Works.

My company provides a free Surfshark subscription (probably coming out of my salary anyways) but it works on every server I've tried with all the ad block and dns settings enabled and disabled. I tried both Firefox with its adblock and google with surfshark and had no issue.
I can second this, I have a standard surfshark subscription and it redirects with no problems.

tl;dr: Their explanation for blocking kiwifarms.net was that 1 (formerly 2) out of 97(!) security vendors on virus total (A) flagged kiwifarms.net as unsafe
Seclookup, the offending faggot vendor in question, has reversed course. It is now 0 (formerly 1) out of 98(!) security vendors on VirusTotal (archive) that flag kiwifarms.net as unsafe.

clean as a whistle.png

Which leaves Proton without their convenient excuse to block requests. They are either being willfully obstinate, staffed by incompetent retards, or both.
