Well, generally speaking the wealthier the man is, the less he cares about a woman's intelligence, wealth or hobbies. You can just look at hollywood actors to see how prevalent is it for rich men to date women often decades younger than them and regularly switch for younger models when they become too old. Having no agency at all is a plus here since the trophy wife then is less likely to leave the husband.

Arranged marraiges weren't always great but they make a great deal of sense in an agrarian society centered around family bonds. What altered the way people married was the increased urbanization and industrialization of western societies and not some moral virtue intrinsic to modern people
