🐱 Marvel Woke A Disaster: 'Eternals' Delayed With 'Shang-Chi' Box Office Bomb

CatParty

Kevin Feige's woke Phase 4 approach is turning out to be a disaster of epic proportions as now it is reported that if Shang-Chi bombs at the box office, which it is expected to do, that Disney will delay the release of Eternals.

The info comes from Vulture's report about how Sony is going to further delay the release of Venom 2, where the site reached out to additional studios sources to see if there would be similar delays, where it's noted that Marvel could delay the release of Eternals if Shang-Chiunderperforms, which follows Black Widow being a colossal catastrophe:

Among studio sources reached by Vulture, the short-term outlook is that autumn’s big films (such as Dune and Top Gun: Maverick) will most likely stay on their scheduled release dates — although Marvel Studio’s Eternalscould be delayed if the 24th MCU entry Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Ringsunderperforms at the box office upon its September 3 release.
Recent estimates have the Shang-Chi opening box office as the lowest debut of any MCU movie, including lower than Ant-Man's $57 million and The Incredible Hulk's $55 million, with a range of $35-55 million.

Disney losing faith in Marvel

Similar to Black Widow, Disney seems to have lost faith in the Marvel brand, as following Disney releasing Black Widow at the same time in theaters and on Disney Plus, which has spawned a lawsuit from Scarlett Johansson, Disney announced that following a 45-day exclusive release, Shang-Chi will be made available digitally--something that has sparked controversy in regards to comments made by Disney CEO Bob Chapek and Shang-Chi star Simu Liu.

"We are not an experiment," said Liu in regards to Chapek's comments about how Shang-Chi getting an experimental release. "We are the underdog; the underestimated. We are the ceiling-breakers. We are the celebration of culture and joy that will persevere after an embattled year. We are the surprise. I’m fired the f**k up to make history on September 3rd; JOIN US."

It should be noted that, obviously, Disney was aware Black Widow was going to bomb big time which is why they released it right away on Disney Plus, as Disney makes a lot more money from Disney Plus purchases than movie theater tickets.

It also seems obvious that Disney thinks Shang-Chi will be a bomb which is why its 45-day theatrical release is considered an "experiment," and Disney apparently thinks the upcoming November release of Eternals will fail as well, hence the release date change.

When the movie stars are suing or feuding with the studio or siding with one another against the studio (Elizabeth Olsen recently came out in support of Scarlett Johansson) that shows just how bad things are.

Feige's woke MCU approach is a bust

Feige's woke approach doesn't look to be getting any better as upcoming releases include a slate of woke content, which is where characters are changed for the sake of political correctness and/or the liberal agenda is promoted at the expense of quality story:

Shang-Chi - Simu Liu recently said the film "will change the world" and will finally give the audience an "aspirational" Asian character (though that doesn't necessarily mean the movie will be woke).

Eternals - gender-bent, race-swapped characters; regarding the story, the trailer revealed that although the entire universe was threatened by Thanos, they decided to stay out of it (makes sense, right?).

Hawkeye - Jeremy Renner replaced by Hailee Steinfeld's Kate Bishop.

Ms. Marvel - politically oppressed Muslim character (that replaced Carol Danvers in the comics).

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness - with Marvel Comics killing Doctor Strange, a new woke MCU Doctor Strange is speculated; it's also known Feige wouldn't allow Benedict Cumberbatch in WandaVision because he's a male character (ditto for Robert Downey Jr. and The Avengers in Black Widow).

Thor: Love and Thunder - Natalie Portman becomes the Female Thor; Tessa Thompson's Valkyrie is looking for her "queen" of New Asgard.

Black Panther 2: Wakanda Forever - rumors offer Shuri will become the Black Panther and that Ironheart will be introduced in the movie who replaces Robert Downey Jr's Tony Stark in MCU. In the comics, Ironheart is a teenage girl who steals Iron Man tech and is allowed to keep the Iron Man suit, though she is a child and has no superpowers (see how the story gets sacrificed for wokeness?).

Captain Marvel 2: The Marvels - just watch the first movie, and The Marvels will feature Brie Larson ('nuff said?), Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau and Iman Vellani as Ms. Marvel; the director recently said the movie is about "pain and trauma."

Guardians of the Galaxy 3 - unknown how woke James Gunn will go, but he may feature a woke version of Quasar, and the comics have gone completely woke; interestingly enough, Gunn is leaving Marvel to go back to DC, so maybe Guardians 3 won't be all that woke and is the reason why Gunn is heading back to DC.

Blade - unknown, though look for something about Blade's daughter.

Deadpool 3 - Ryan Reynolds sold out his writers for two female newbs (as demanded by Feige and Marvel).

Fantastic Four - rumors offer Feige is going with a diverse version of the characters.

Captain America 4 - Chris Evans replaced by Anthony Mackie's Falcon, a character with no super powers.

Moon Knight - TBD.

She-Hulk - unknown, but likely woke as it will feature the goofy version of Mark Ruffalo's Hulk (men are bad, etc).

Armor Wars - the original comic featured Tony Stark as Iron Man getting his tech back from various villains in what is one of the best Iron Man stories, IMO; obviously, James Rhodes replaces Tony, and it is said Ironheart will be in the series, again who replaces Robert Downey Jr's Tony Stark.

Ironheart - woke like the comics (see above).

Secret Invasion - unknown.

Not suprised, they blew their chance with Endgame and the time travel fuckery. Especially since they now always have an option of gathering the stones again to undo any major problems. It's basically the DragonBall problem. No actual stakes or deaths will matter because they can now all be undone by rather simple methods that aren't one time only.

They should have already been planting the seeds of future villians and arcs by then. They had every opportunity to use the aspects of the universe and even could have had Titan destroyed by Galactus. Set up power players in the background like Dr. Doom or the heralds. Maybe actually show that billions of lives coming back 5 years later would lead to societal collapse from resource/food shortages, etc. Mistress Death could have been a legit interesting way to slowly introduce the more cosmic elements and what they do behind the scenes to keep the universe and reality stable. Big power players like Mephisto should be phase/arc defining villans operating in the background watching Thanos make his play.

Instead, they are doubling down on shit that tanked the physical comic industry due to it openly hating men and heterosexuality, while preaching to their ever dwindling audience. They are setting themselves up to be husks of what they once were ala Star Wars.

I figure a lot of Marvel's problems at the moment have to do with the lack of charismatic leads. RDJ oozed charisma whenever doing anything on screen or on press tours, so anything associated with him seemed to do well as people just plain like the guy and want to see him more. With stuff like Black Widow, we've got Scarlett Johansson who just sounds like a scold most of the time regarding politics, even complaining her own character was "hyper sexualized" in Iron Man 2, and one of the biggest stories with her movie is her complaining about Disney streaming the movie.

With nearly everyone in the phase 4 lineup, there's a problem of the actors collectively being a charisma vacuum. When Aquaman was coming out, it was a bit weird, but the youtuber Jacksepticeye interviewed Jason Mamoa. Which feels significant as the guy knew to be friendly with nearly everyone and the people behind the marketing for his movie knew well enough to set him up with opportunities to show off this friendliness. You don't seem to see that with these phase 4 Marvel actors. With Simu Liu, the Shang Chi star, I've seen nothing of him anywhere on social media nor youtube, he's seems like a non-entity. Even Brie Larson was decent enough at knowing she needed to do something to keep up an image that she did a youtube channel. It may not been a hit by any measure, but doing stuff like playing Fortnite at least showed she was trying to do something to maintain a public image. Simu on the other hand has no public image, nor do most of these new Phase 4 actors.

The new phase 4 actors come across as being a bunch of nobodies who don't even want to be known. Which seems really weird when you consider how much money Disney has for marketing. Like they can't even pay people to get these actors talked about?

This is it. Not to mention that Simu Liu isn‘t good looking, and I was shocked to find out he‘s only 32. Apparently he has not been using his Oriental Pearl Cream.

And Eternals, woof.

Find me some charisma in this cast. A few examples of exquisite present and past beauty. Richard Madden is vaguely attractive at times, but unfortunately those times are only when he is having intentional or unintentional sexual chemistry with female co-stars old enough to be his mum.

China, unlike the US, actually has Covid controlled.
Easy to do when when your go-to method of controlling it is to weld people shut in their apartment buildings.

But really, blaming the box office decline on COVID is just cope over the more likely fact that most people simply tuned out post Endgame.

Never mind that we really don’t know if they controlled their COVID numbers or not. Why are we now trusting what the CCP says?

This is annoying. The movie doesn't even open for four more days. Way to own the Ess Jay Dubyas, Garrrryyyy. How's the sequel to Alita: Battle Angel coming along?🙄Twitter / Archive

I guess this kind of grandstanding annoys me because I agree with a great deal of what they're saying, in theory, but in practice they're increasingly looking ridiculous.

I should be the target market here, but one look at the promotional content turned me right off. There's HK movies from the 80s that looked more authentic and better produced than this. Why would the Chinese watch an inferior version of wuxia films that's probably being filtered through both western sensibilities and wokeism?
I'd rather read an unfinished shitty manhwa—or, worse, a manhua—than pay and sit through this crap.

As someone that did like the Marvel movies, I'm still thrilled to think of them starting to bomb lol.

All I care about at this point is Spider-Man, maybe Doctor Strange 2 and maaaaaybe Blade if you really want to stretch, I don't care about any of the Woke stuff.

See: Tom Hanks in that Great Wall movie.
It was Matt Damon. Tom Hanks would have been hilarious though.
Tom Hanks IS Fu Man Chu!

Disney is not losing faith in anything they know exactly what they are doing the problem with Phase 4 is that they dont know what the fuck they want to do, so instead of going for the sane approach of adapting good crossovers events in the comics (Secret invasion, Dark Reign, Secret Wars) instead they

  1. Asspull two things that absolutely no one care, no one gives a shit about Shang chi after Iron fist got done dirty by the executives, absolutely no one care about the eternals, they are going to suffer the same fate as the inhumans, is a shame because Quake was a very good character in Agents of SHIELD and she deserve to be in the MCU, BUT SHE IS WHITE ERGO WORSE THAN HITLER
  2. Ms Marvel is another reason why Disney dont care about anything, her reception in the fucking horrible Avengers game was abysmal, no one cared about a woke version of Reed Richards, at least she was useful to make One piece jokes
  3. The doctor strange case is merely hypothetical but there was a time where i believed that Disney would not kill Avengers until Black Widow and Iron man the one that got the ball rolling were yeeted
  4. Same case as Strange, they are going to fuck Thor to hell, he is white, he is nordic, he is a viking god and that cannot be allowed
  5. Black Panther 2 is probably being retooled hard but the movements to make her fucking sister the black panther is dumb also this is not the first time Disney swap a character that was already there (remember there were 2 Rodheys)
  6. Trying in vain to make interesting that horrible mary sue that is Captain marvel is a waste of time, everyone hated the first movie and the only reason people watched it was to see what was going to come next in the MCU, she was quietly shoah with only appearing at that cringe part of Endgame because of reasons
  7. Fantastic four im not that optimistic but is going to require a huge amount of effort to top how bad was the reboot of Fox
  8. Ironheart is a ironic case when even the few comic readers that i know hate her, she was introduced as a mary sue that got us that infamous flashback where she tried to be woke and her teacher ignore her, last thing i checked Disney has tried in vain to rise the interest in her in Mobile games (she is not Ironman so people treat her as a wellfare), animation (she has appeared in some animated shorts but were so bad that no one even knew they existed) and iirc she is going to appear in what if, disney just refuse to admit that people dont want her
  9. I dont give a shit about Blade because im to fond of Wesley Snipes, but they are probably start to promote him now starting with the game of Midnight sons where he is a member, i just hope they remember that my homie Ghost Rider is out there in the MCU

Seriously why is everyone ITT acting like Shang-Chi already bombed when this article is basically some Disney staffer saying "yeah if this bombs Disney will pause things and think about the MCU"? That statement could be interpreted as re: theater releases just as much as the actual future of the franchise.
Nothing's happened yet. Didn't we do this same song and dance assuming Marvel was gonna crater with Captain Marvel and Black Widow? Both did ok to good. People are going off on the demise of the MCU to an extent I'm beginning to wonder if you just read the clickbait-y headline and not the actual article.
It'll be welcome if it does crater but y'all niggas jumping the gun way too fast lmao.

Tom Hanks IS Fu Man Chu!

ok now I'm just lost. When did Tom Hanks ever play an Asian criminal genius archetype?

This is why I'm waiting for it to actually release first. There were a number of films already that seemed destined to fail yet were saved through retardation, so I'll believe it when I finally see it.

I mean retarded Fandom Menace types did.

I don't know anyone who actually thought CM was going to bomb when it was the film right before Endgame.

I dunno with Black Widow though. I stopped caring two years ago to pay attention if people thought it'd bomb or not. Aren't we not even really sure if it did because Disney is weird about streaming numbers?

I'm mostly predicting it'd crater in Asian markets. If they release it here.

Else, I have no horse in this game; I checked out of capeshit with Thanos Wars, and while it'd be nice to see Disney with yet another black eye, I wouldn't be surprised people flocked to see it in Western countries.

All streaming services are, unless the products gets a good amount of views, then they'll release the numbers alongside something like "Our movie was a success, it got X million viewers on its first day!". Netflix did it for Bright and most recently the Witcher. I think Disney did it for Loki and maybe Wandavision, iirc theres no word on FatWS or What If? numbers, which probably meant it wasnt what they expected/not very good.

One way I've seen people try to get a hold of this data is to compare google search numbers. They know Loki got X amount of views cuz Disney said it did, they look up how many ppl searched for it on google and then compare with the other shows. It's very iffy and probably unreliable, but its the closest most of us can get to knowing the actual numbers.

I'm not on the train that thinks the MCU is going to crash and burn any time soon, at this point I'd say its so big it could keep going for another decade. Consoomers will keep watching anything with a Marvel logo, enough flashy lights and comic book references that'll make them seem like experts (No one gave two fucks about Kang and now everyone is a Kang expert), that alone will keep the machine alive.

The X Factor here for me is theaters. If they dont come back big time then id say theres a bigger chance of them being fucked. You cant release 4 500 million dollar movies like these every year without the box office money to cover your costs.

Oh goddamn it, I didn't realize he was such a dumb Branch Covidian POS. Fuck him, stupid Commie CanaDUH fuckface. Deadpool 2 suuuucked, you homo! And the first was only passable. Dick face.

I swear, The Mouse has irreparably raped to death my childhood love of comic books, and I'll forever hate them for it. I couldn't tell you anything that happened in Infinity War or Endgame, I found them boring. I didn't bother watching Dark Phoenix, which was my favorite story arc in the comics back in the day. I knew they'd shit all over it, and from what I've heard and read, that's exactly what they did.
Just remember that Domino looks nothing like she should have looked like, in "Deadpool 2".

You could just look up "domino cosplay" and you'd get millions of cosplayers nailing the look of the character, there's absolutely nothing impossible about a pasty white chick with jet black hair and a diamond patch on her face. This is what we should have gotten,

1630305403275.png

This is what we got. And this was coming under his tutelage; he kept talking about "staying true to the comics" but then on the sequel, he comes up with this shit.

Josh Brolin as Cable was a good choice, but flipping Domino... yeah, no.

Man, I was so annoyed by that shit that my brain didn't even let me acknowledge it. As usual, they have to black wash fucking everything.

Disney doesn't even release "real" numbers about Disney+ performance, IIRC, just says "it was the highest rated show" and moves on...

Which is why their current lawsuit dustup over Black Widow is destined to settle, they do NOT want to have to do a forced discovery over how they actually calculate those numbers and will pay a couple more million down the hole to keep it that way so they can keep conning investors that they didn't break the money-making machine by woking all the franchises to death and then dumping them on D+ where they can massage the numbers easier than traditional box office figures.
