🐱 Marvel Woke A Disaster: 'Eternals' Delayed With 'Shang-Chi' Box Office Bomb

CatParty

Kevin Feige's woke Phase 4 approach is turning out to be a disaster of epic proportions as now it is reported that if Shang-Chi bombs at the box office, which it is expected to do, that Disney will delay the release of Eternals.

The info comes from Vulture's report about how Sony is going to further delay the release of Venom 2, where the site reached out to additional studios sources to see if there would be similar delays, where it's noted that Marvel could delay the release of Eternals if Shang-Chiunderperforms, which follows Black Widow being a colossal catastrophe:

Among studio sources reached by Vulture, the short-term outlook is that autumn’s big films (such as Dune and Top Gun: Maverick) will most likely stay on their scheduled release dates — although Marvel Studio’s Eternalscould be delayed if the 24th MCU entry Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Ringsunderperforms at the box office upon its September 3 release.
Recent estimates have the Shang-Chi opening box office as the lowest debut of any MCU movie, including lower than Ant-Man's $57 million and The Incredible Hulk's $55 million, with a range of $35-55 million.

Disney losing faith in Marvel

Similar to Black Widow, Disney seems to have lost faith in the Marvel brand, as following Disney releasing Black Widow at the same time in theaters and on Disney Plus, which has spawned a lawsuit from Scarlett Johansson, Disney announced that following a 45-day exclusive release, Shang-Chi will be made available digitally--something that has sparked controversy in regards to comments made by Disney CEO Bob Chapek and Shang-Chi star Simu Liu.

"We are not an experiment," said Liu in regards to Chapek's comments about how Shang-Chi getting an experimental release. "We are the underdog; the underestimated. We are the ceiling-breakers. We are the celebration of culture and joy that will persevere after an embattled year. We are the surprise. I’m fired the f**k up to make history on September 3rd; JOIN US."

It should be noted that, obviously, Disney was aware Black Widow was going to bomb big time which is why they released it right away on Disney Plus, as Disney makes a lot more money from Disney Plus purchases than movie theater tickets.

It also seems obvious that Disney thinks Shang-Chi will be a bomb which is why its 45-day theatrical release is considered an "experiment," and Disney apparently thinks the upcoming November release of Eternals will fail as well, hence the release date change.

When the movie stars are suing or feuding with the studio or siding with one another against the studio (Elizabeth Olsen recently came out in support of Scarlett Johansson) that shows just how bad things are.

Feige's woke MCU approach is a bust

Feige's woke approach doesn't look to be getting any better as upcoming releases include a slate of woke content, which is where characters are changed for the sake of political correctness and/or the liberal agenda is promoted at the expense of quality story:

Shang-Chi - Simu Liu recently said the film "will change the world" and will finally give the audience an "aspirational" Asian character (though that doesn't necessarily mean the movie will be woke).

Eternals - gender-bent, race-swapped characters; regarding the story, the trailer revealed that although the entire universe was threatened by Thanos, they decided to stay out of it (makes sense, right?).

Hawkeye - Jeremy Renner replaced by Hailee Steinfeld's Kate Bishop.

Ms. Marvel - politically oppressed Muslim character (that replaced Carol Danvers in the comics).

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness - with Marvel Comics killing Doctor Strange, a new woke MCU Doctor Strange is speculated; it's also known Feige wouldn't allow Benedict Cumberbatch in WandaVision because he's a male character (ditto for Robert Downey Jr. and The Avengers in Black Widow).

Thor: Love and Thunder - Natalie Portman becomes the Female Thor; Tessa Thompson's Valkyrie is looking for her "queen" of New Asgard.

Black Panther 2: Wakanda Forever - rumors offer Shuri will become the Black Panther and that Ironheart will be introduced in the movie who replaces Robert Downey Jr's Tony Stark in MCU. In the comics, Ironheart is a teenage girl who steals Iron Man tech and is allowed to keep the Iron Man suit, though she is a child and has no superpowers (see how the story gets sacrificed for wokeness?).

Captain Marvel 2: The Marvels - just watch the first movie, and The Marvels will feature Brie Larson ('nuff said?), Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau and Iman Vellani as Ms. Marvel; the director recently said the movie is about "pain and trauma."

Guardians of the Galaxy 3 - unknown how woke James Gunn will go, but he may feature a woke version of Quasar, and the comics have gone completely woke; interestingly enough, Gunn is leaving Marvel to go back to DC, so maybe Guardians 3 won't be all that woke and is the reason why Gunn is heading back to DC.

Blade - unknown, though look for something about Blade's daughter.

Deadpool 3 - Ryan Reynolds sold out his writers for two female newbs (as demanded by Feige and Marvel).

Fantastic Four - rumors offer Feige is going with a diverse version of the characters.

Captain America 4 - Chris Evans replaced by Anthony Mackie's Falcon, a character with no super powers.

Moon Knight - TBD.

She-Hulk - unknown, but likely woke as it will feature the goofy version of Mark Ruffalo's Hulk (men are bad, etc).

Armor Wars - the original comic featured Tony Stark as Iron Man getting his tech back from various villains in what is one of the best Iron Man stories, IMO; obviously, James Rhodes replaces Tony, and it is said Ironheart will be in the series, again who replaces Robert Downey Jr's Tony Stark.

Ironheart - woke like the comics (see above).

Secret Invasion - unknown.

Secret Invasion - unknown.
Wait, it's about jews skrulls replacing half the heroes, right? I thought this is what Femptain Marvel was about.

Fantastic Four - rumors offer Feige is going with a diverse version of the characters.
Yeah, like F4ur wasn't diverse enough already.

lol

I should be the target market here, but one look at the promotional content turned me right off. There's HK movies from the 80s that looked more authentic and better produced than this. Why would the Chinese watch an inferior version of wuxia films that's probably being filtered through both western sensibilities and wokeism?

The CCP said as much and Disney is still mystified why they didn't gobble it right up and are pleading with them to give them another chance..... 4/5ths of all those proposed films are going to quietly be shitcanned during development and if noticed, will be blamed on the coof, so Disney can stop hemorrhaging money.

The bombing of Shang-Chi really and honestly shocked them even though the rest of the world saw it coming: The Cape Movie Era is over, and like everything else, media giants are the last to notice... and had already greenlit 50 more before realizing "wait a sec, why aren't people showing up? They always show up! They can't do this to us! We'll go broke and then without us the world will NEVER learn diversity and inclusion!"

They have to keep pushing because they don't know how to make anything else, when was the last time we had a NON-cape and NON-sequel/reboot movie?

Seems a bit little premature

Cant we at least wait for these two newest movies to bomb before the mass speculation ramps up?

Not that I'm into capeshit and honestly would love to see it die but come on, neither movie is even out yet.

I have a better explanation.

Nobody cares anymore.

Thanos is dead and the universe is saved, what else is there to do? Fight the new super threatening bad guy that's a million times worse than Thanos but will get beaten by the end of the movie? The story has been told and judging by how unfocused Phase 4 looks its apparent they have no plan and are throwing everything at the wall to see what sticks. There's no point to watching a bunch of actors bumble around a green screen for 2 hours if I know nothing of consequence will happen. At least with the other films the story could advance a little to the end.

Well, at least now they can say that the movies are going to closely resemble the modern comics (meaning they're massively retarded).

I would love to see the MCU flopping in this phase, but I still just don't see it. Sure Black Widow was a disaster, but I still doubt that Shang-Chi is going to underperform in spite of being dull, formulaic and restricted in China. If they can get asses in seats for Captain Unlikeable just by saying it's crucial to the storyline, I'm sure Feige could easily fart out a similar comment and that's all their problems solved.

They could still make fun movies and tell good stories...unfortunately they have chosen to jump to current year Marvel Comics and shit the bed.

Either way the boom time is over.

You gotta understand the Asian mentality. When we watch Hollywood films, we want to see wypipo doing wypipo things. See: Tom Hanks in that Great Wall movie. Similarly, Captain FlatBooty was unironically still that, and it has pretty explosions etc. Small surprise it got asses in the seat; though honestly even then people were complaining why Larson was such a bitch.

This? I literally see no reason why a Chinese want to see this. It smells and looks like a soyboy's rendition of what wuxia films are like, clothed in the smothering embrace of capeshit. Again, the modern Chinese film industry can churn out a dime a dozen superhero/super kungfu movies annually, and they all would appeal to Chinese sensibilities far better.

At least for Shang-Chi, this article is Doomcock/Geeks&Gamers level tardsperging/wishful thinking. As in, the other side of the SJW coin, as in put your ideology ahead of reality. Give the audience a decent chopsocky festival, toss in a monster like Abomination and you'll have a movie that'll do okay, if nothing in the Endgame/Infinity War category.

At least in the domestic (US/Canada) market; as others in this thread have noted, if this even gets a Chinese release I agree with others saying it'll underperform there.

Recent estimates have the Shang-Chi opening box office as the lowest debut of any MCU movie, including lower than Ant-Man's $57 million and The Incredible Hulk's $55 million, with a range of $35-55 million.
I'm not saying you should blame EVERYTHING on the Coof, but I don't see how you can completely ignore it, either. No coof, it likely meets those numbers, maybe even beats them. Whether there would be a huge drop off like Black Widow, hard to say.

Beyond Shang-Chi, yeah, those movies look pretty crappy. The trailer for Eternals certainly looked downright tedious. But this article also completely ignored the kinda-sorta MCU next Spider-man movie as well. Which looks like it is going to do very well.

Why was anyone expecting "Shang-Chi" to do well in the first place? I'm seriously asking, why were they? Isn't he one of those bottom-of-the-barrel '70s "whatever-sploitation" characters? Everyone knows who Captain America and Incredible Hulk are, no one's heard of Shang-Chi.

It was Matt Damon. Tom Hanks would have been hilarious though.

I dunno man, didn't Black Panther still do well in China despite how xenophobic the Chinese are, especially towards African Americans? I just think that with how successful Marvel has been with some of its movies purely by having the logo slapped on them rather than any actual quality or merit, it means you can't really consider any of them as down for the count yet.

I feel like I've already seen this movie with Marvel. I watched Iron Fist (leastways the first season) so the magical Kung Fu ultimate martial artist thing has already been done in the Marvel universe.

I don't think many people watched Iron Fist in the end, and the main complaint from the PC crowd was that a white guy was doing all the Kung Fu and it wasn't an Asian actor (despite that literally being faithful to Iron Fist's ethnicity). This movie seems like the answer to that, and it will be interesting to see how it performs.

Shang-Chi, wasn't that the bad dude from mortal kombat?

So..The whole list looks dumb AF but I am oddly excited for the Eternals and will watch the inevitable same day leaked DVD copy that gets posted online. At least with 'Eternals' it makes sense because they 'spread throughout humanity' and the whole 'being reborn' thing doesn't imply they are reborn in the same exact form so gender might change.

but yea...marvel films look terrible. And the whole 'We need asian characters'...Does no one remember Bruce Lee? IP Man?

This can't be stated enough: people don't' want to watch movies about themselves, as imagined by those who don't even KNOW them. That defeats the whole purpose of film if all you're watching is yourself, in a funhouse mirror.... distorted and bloated and as far as you can tell, done intentionally WITHOUT humor being the goal....

Back when I was towing cars for a living, people would assume all the time that I was a big fan of the towing "reality" shows on TV like Parking Wars and whatever show had Lizard Lick Towing.... and were always shocked, SHOCKED when I said I wasn't.

When they actually asked why I'd tell them "If they made a reality show about your job, and then filled it with staged drama, would you watch it?"

That's when it all clicked.....

Still hasn't clicked for Disney because they aren't asking "why?", just doubling-down on more of what didn't work.
