Looks like gas has gone up 40 cents in my area and grocery prices are a few cents higher. Can't wait to see the articles shit how this is the end of America and we should just hand the keys to the jeets.
This is most likely the gas price increase that comes ahead of Labor Day every year. At my station of choice, gas went up 22 cents per gallon in less than 24 hours last week just in time for the holiday travelers doing their fill-ups before heading out of town.
Dems like to use gerrymandering to lock down states for themselves, though they'll lie about that like they do with voter ID laws. The real reason they don't like fair gerrymandering or voter ID is because it makes cheating harder.
A state in my area got a Dem-sponsored ballot initiative passed that moved redistricting to a third party panel with proponents claiming it would be more impartial and reduce gerrymandering because it would have equal numbers of Republicans, Democrats, and Independents. Of course the Dems were the only ones to complain when the panel did its first redistricting within all of the constraints it was given for the task.
It would take an Amendment to change that..... and neither side, for all their bluster.... would do it. Because it would affect them all, they only want to do it if there's some way (and there isn't) to only make it apply to the other side's guys.
Legality issues notwithstanding, age limits have fallen out of favor over the years. At a former job, I had access to the archive of union contracts and it was interesting to see an old clause that specified a mandatory retirement age eventually be changed to, "If permitted by law, retirement age is ...," and then be eliminated altogether.
@TowinKarz is right, however, that those who have power are very reluctant to agree to anything that curtails their power in any sort of meaningful way.
It also doesn't help that the combination of age and performance can vary considerably. I know someone who was technically sharp in their career well into their 90s. On the flip side, I've seen younger professionals be so incompetent they needed to be put to pasture well before retirement age.
Turns out Americans want affordable houses, cheap gas, boosting the domestic workforce, keeping men out of women's sports, low crime, affordable groceries, toxic chemicals out of their kids food, and decreased inflation so their dollar goes further. Democrats champion none of these causes.
Not to say the GOP is nailing it nonstop, since the MAGA wing still had to drag them kicking and screaming, with RINOs eager to muddy the waters as much as possible
The working class immediately feels the crunch when paychecks have less purchasing power and disposable income. The 20-some percent rise in inflation under Biden was hard to miss in this regard. The Dems' focusing more on identity politics, gibs, and allowing illegal aliens unfettered access to the US hasn't helped them even if the GOP has its own issues and flaws inherent with any political party.
Will the Swamp get drained? If it gets drained of Neoliberal Satanists, that's good enough for me and all other normal people. If you mean "will the Swamp cease to exist altogether," that's simply not going to happen.
Expecting the swamp to be totally emptied and filled over never to exist again is unrealistic. Corruption will always exist to some extent; at best, it can be controlled in a manageable, minimal amount - especially since those who benefit form the corruption will fight efforts to eliminate it tooth and nail.
Learn to read the fine print kids!
Assuming the story is real, I bet this person didn't give the finer points of the employment contract any thought prior to signing it and is just now objecting over the alleged social media policy contained therein because they ran afoul of it and it was cited as the reason for dismissal. It's hard to have sympathy for anyone who waits until after a clause is invoked to raise issues with it. It's better to raise issues before signing anything - especially with clauses that are vaguely written or outright unreasonable.
Part of me thinks they told Trump about all the wishcasting and he just decided to do a little trolling.
I can easily see Trump envying the fact his detractors and the media fixate on the most trivial of things he says and does. I wouldn't put it past him to ham it up just to get them whipped into a needless frenzy because they take everything he says or does far too literally and seriously.
if the r/50501 project has nearly HALF of their traffic from Russia/China/India, who has been known to interfere with our elections, the numbers are a lot smaller than we might think.
From my POV, the 50501 stuff has largely fizzled from its initial frenzy. Apart from deep blue areas where the residents gather en masse to protest anything they feel strongly about, other 50501 protests appear to have fewer people each time other than the devoted die-hards. I also suspect the unions and other sponsors/supporters are doing their part to artificially prop up these allegedly "grass roots" protests to make them seem bigger and more important than they really are.
