That Barb is still living in 14BC in such filthy cluttered conditions and that she is in the state she is in is more her fault than Chris'. She's willing chosen and fought tooth and nail to be where she is, live the way she does, and by extention to become what she has become. She threatened to commit suicide every time Chris and Bob tried to suggest cleaning the hoard. Even when 14BC catching fire forced the hoards removal, she fought tooth and nail to have ALL OF IT brought back the moment she and Chris were allowed to return even though most of it was severely damaged in the blaze. Mind you this of course does not excuse Chris neglecting her. But at the same time Barb has become so attached to her hoard that I honestly, truly believe that at this point even though it is killing her, she also literally cannot survive without it.
If Chris were to suddenly grow a backbone and threw out every single bag, box, and bit of Barb's share of the hoard no matter how much Barb protested, she would throw such a fit that she'd either die of a heart attack or actually kill herself. Hell, even if someone were to come along and put Barb in the cleanest, best, and most expensive assisted living home that money can buy I guarantee you she'd be dead the very next day. The stress from the drastic change in her living conditions would kill her. So point is that there's no path that leads to Barb getting better or better. She will either die surrounded by her hoard or die in the hospital begging to be taken back to it.
