I am painting up some terrain. Its indoor spaceship so all metallics. I have Vallejo metal colour exhaust manifold, steel and dark aluminum to use. I also have a copper and chrome on hand but very unlikely to be used. Big ass bottles so should get some mileage.

The problem I have is, black wash. Whats the most cost effective black wash out there youd recommend? No way im buying a bunch of nuln oils.
Tube of oil paint and some mineral spirits to thin it. Add a little brown to tweak the tone if you want, but thinned out ivory black already has a slightly more brown undertone than mars black anyway. It'll take longer to dry than an acrylic wash, but it'll also cost a hell of a lot less for the amount you end up with.

In some versions of the lore, didn't some guy have the sisters as his personal harem?

Ugly sisters I put down to primitive sculpts. And in recent times, wokeshit.
Goge Van Dire during the age of apostacy(m35, something like that?) before they were the sisters of battle. Then it was decreed the church couldn't have men at arms, so then they went "lol, rules as written we can have women at arms".

And while there are groups within the sisters like the order hospitaller that don't really go into combat directly(some of them do still get into some shit when medical facilities get attacked) the idea that a bunch of battle hardened women that train for combat all the time and get beat to shit, somehow look like a bunch of supermodels at the same time is fucking dumb, and that's before any end up with bionics(I guess there's people into that), Just like the average space marine seems like their head is made out of 25% scar tissue unless they're fresh off the line.

You can't really blame them though.
Yes you can, they're grifting faggot tourists and secondaries. Nothing was stopping them from going out and finding a copy to flip through, nor is it a long or difficult read for them(well, maybe some of them like the quartering).

They are notoriously lore inaccurate with things like a Skaven that dosn't worship the great horned rat and prefers working with humans rather than fellow rats.
Now that is fucking retarded, but it's also basically AOS lore from 6 years ago or whatever at this point.

Vallejo black and other more core washes/FX paints like grey, sepia and rust are available for under 10 bucks for 35ml bottles, that's double the amount of Nuln oil for the same price.
Oil washes are also good and cheap but need their prep and cleanup, I don't think its hard but YMMV. Mixing your own acrylic washes is also possible and worth it if you're just doing mass amounts of terrain

Claws of the Genestealer by Cavan Scott

Our hero's are still stranded on the icehole. The kids are doing pretty well all things considered, what with the Monkey constantly building everything they need to survive. (and rolling his eyes every time they need something else from him. ) Boldly, Talen tries to get a baby alien boar for dinner before mama drives his ass into a sinkhole and he breaks his arm out of its socket. Warhammer For kids! (he takes it pretty well honestly)

Then he gets knocked out and put in a cave on what I presume is a genestealer buffet table with another animal. (im gonna excuse its behavior by it being alone in the cold and liking its food alive) POC has to save his ass with a grappling hook, they still don't know what knocked out Talen.

They get back to base camp and then things get interesting. The monkey is out of action, he's gone into hibernation from the extreme cold. So the kids are on their own for most of this. Talen acts like a model imperial citizen and gives everybody shit for their optimism and desire to respect the monkey. Angrily dooming about the situation as they are running out of power and are seemingly screwed. then the cog boy gets pissed off at Zelia POC for ordering him around and sulks off into the cold... right into the genestealer.

I love how they don't really explain what the hell it is to the kids. They have a vague notion that it's evil and that's enough. They get lucky, really really lucky. But even with all that luck this thing can still tear though doors like paper and apparently hypnotize them if they look at it too long. In the face of that even Zelia is like, "ok im willing to bash this things face in with a wrench." Using monkey shield technology they trap it for maybe 20 mins.

They then manage to wake up the monkey for a little bit using the cogboy, but the cold screwed him up bad.
We get his backstory, and its pretty sad. Dude was caged up when the necrons attacked, and his master left him to fend for himself before being blown up in the sky. He's also been hiding the location of a crashed imperial ship in the woods from the kids. gotta love that. So they go over there and just assume everything is gonna be hunky dory.

shit shit shit shit!

They wake up the engines and unthaw a shit ton of them. Even get bits of a doomed captains log.
("did the crew survive?'
.....
" Nevermind I dont want to know" Gotta love it)

Monkey saves their asses again with a imperial gravity gun (that's a thing? Talen found it in an armory). Im noticing a pattern and im kinda loving it. Especially when the girl tries to hug him and he pushes her away. They are starting to grow on him, but he's a delightful dick at times. They manage to get out of dodge and bury the stealers in ice, before an inquisitor comes down to see them. roll credits

What can I say its fun. Art even got a little better, or at least less memeable.

Half of this books entertainment is finding all the hidden implications kids wouldn't get.
Was he blonde?
White hair funny enough

imperial gravity gun
Yeah, definitely a thing. just usually much rarer in 40k compared to 30k.

I hope you go through the rest, this is why I posted the first one so people can just read the shit themselves instead of just relying on the grifting faggots. Arch, Gamza, TheOuterCircle, TheQuartering, the entirety of the group that does the podcast with the screwattack guy, etc. they're all grifting faggots. Even for the femstodes shit, they wouldn't have known about it unless someone looked into it and posted the crap from the books for them(they actually found it on reddit of all places) since they're all tourists, secondaries, and burnt out grifters.

Cheap craft store black acrylic paint (or a black acrylic ink) + homemade "Lahmian medium" (a 4 oz bottle of matte medium will last a long time, because you're mixing it with bottled water at something like 10 or 20 parts water to 1 part matte medium), mix that up in some empty 2oz paint bottles. Add a little black paint at a time until you've trial and errored your way into a ratio you like.
You can also use floor varnish or polish instead of matte medium for cheapmaxxing.

("fairy liquid" is some bong brand of dish soap. you can also use flow improver for this)

Alternate how-to video by a guy who does a lot of terrain:

I don't mind if some regiments are all black-colored and such, as long as they keep to themselves. Unfortunately, nigs are popping up everywhere lately in WH40k, even in very whitey SM Chapters, which is absolute heresy.
I watched one of the Warhammer plus shows and one of the main Cadian chicks (mind you she's voidborn since she didn't have the purple eyes) was super black. It's something I've noticed a lot with newer books and animations for Warhammer, just like how we've gotten more and more women Commissars and officers

For fun, from my old notes:

Lahmian Medium:
12 parts Distilled Water
8 parts Matte Medium
1 drop Flow aid

Reikland Fleshshade:
4 parts Burnt Sienna Ink
4 parts Burnt Umber Ink
9 Parts Distilled Water

Dark Tone:
3 parts Carbon Black or Neutral Grey Ink
3 parts Burnt Umber Ink
9 Parts Distilled Water

Marine Juice: (Fits perfectly in a 60ml bottle)
30 parts Distilled Water
8 parts Matte Medium
4 parts Burnt Sienna
5 parts Burnt Umber
3 Parts Carbon Black / Neutral Grey
1 drop Flow Aid

John Blanche's Grimdark Shadow Wash:
30 parts Distilled Water
8 Parts Matte Medium
4 Parts Carbon Black
2 parts Phthalo Green / Viridian Green
1 part Raw Sienna / Yellow Ochre
1 drop Flow Aid

I'd have to look but Amazon instead of local is $17 for the Medium, $25 for a bundle of Burnt Umber/Burnt Sienna/Raw Sienna ink, $14.88 (nice) for the Carbon Black ink, all Liquitex brand. A quick peek at Hobby Lobby's Amsterdam inks suggests they're $6 each locally, but I can't confirm they have all the colors.

I really appreciate all the suggestions for my terrain wash problem. Whilst i initially thought vallejo black or brown wash (way more cost effective than nuln or agrax) would be an ok lazy option, this post breaking down things is incredibly helpful and should be saved by all hobbyists.

I already have a bunch of the ink colours in Daler Rowney (side note, i think liquitex does a better bright white) so I just need distilled water and matte medium.

The funny thing is, I've read one of those books. They are the least kid friendly thing on the face of the planet. But honestly. I feel like GW really doesn't like riding adventure style novels in the 40K universe. It's the perfect setting for it. I feel like you could do an inquisitor in the. Gang of lovable weirdos.
And I'm aware the Eisenhorn. Trilogy exists, but it doesn't really scratch the itch.

Your average sister battle probably looks more like a professional D1 female athlete. But if you're talking about the Bloody rose specifically? They intentionally like getting the body scarred. So yes, they would 100% be covered in scars.
Sisters of the Origin Flame. Probably more attractive.
But the Ordo hospital and the Ordo families. A still trained battle sisters. All of them are trained to fight regardless if they're in the non combat. Sisterhood orders.
This is actually a good example of a sister Hospitalo shoving a bone drill through a Necron's face.

My vitriandragoons would never get the time in the sun, even though they're really cool regiment. Or the Mexican themed regiment. Firecast has a lot of cool regiments that should get models.

If you think about it, they should have easily found a cure for being black during the age of technology, so darkies in M40 isn't realistic at all.
the game's tagline is "in the grim darkness of the far future there is only war" if you're going to have a war in the dark seems helpful to keep them around

Nice to see you taking on harder chapter books! I totally agree - the setting has continued tension with the grimdark thing. Grimdark is cool for setting sourcebooks. Nobody wants a truly grimdark tabletop campaign or to read a grimdark book - they would descend into misery and torture porn and get really dreary and boring. So rogue trader, the inquisition rpg and the fiction books are all much more adventureous. Then a bunch of ppl on Reddit like to bitch about stuff getting more swasbuckley and less grimderpy. Completely stupid

Ha ha. Very funny.
But seriously, a swashbuckling Imperial Pirates book series would be great. A group of Imperial renegades who? Were loyal to the Emperor. But really don't like bureaucracy. Who Steal shit from chaos and aliens. And read the supply lines.
How? You could even have some aliens on the crew. A very confused orc. His pet Space Marine, who's totally not a member of the Alpha Legion.
And the definitely sanctioned psychic. And the Navigator, they definitely did not kidnap.
