Opposite-sex parent basically thinks "well, I don't have any experience being a teenage girl, so maybe the thing my child is asking for is what they need."
Same-sex parent says "I was a teenage girl once and that's bullshit, she just needs to do x and y."
Yeah I've always found this meme both demonstrative and accurate:
It's easier to charm an opposite-sex parent because there's some distance and mystery there; if it's a same-sex parent they are far more likely to see through your charm and see exactly what you're doing.
