He didn't get blacklisted or anything, he developed severe mental illness and became increasingly erratic and impossible to work with. He now also has Alzheimer's.
Right. Fell off the wagon, I had assumed.

My point is he created some great shows over the last 15 years, and none of them stuck. I was responding to a post saying a number of failed projects is a sign someone has no talent.
The main character visiting his son at school and then fleeing into the woods is one of the dumbest moves I have ever seen a protagonist make. It's like the woman in Prometheus who refuses to run sideways level moronic. All he had to do was flee to a police station or FBI office and nothing would have happened to him. Because no one is going to murder him in front of a police station.
Almost nothing about the final two episodes make any sense.

New season looks fucking awful. Jodie Foster is a good actress but (1) they paired her with some no name negro who cannot act and (2) it looks like they're ripping off Fargo with memberberry shit for season 1. I looked up the black actress and it literally is "put a chick in it and make her gay" because she's gay and has done 2 other projects that no one really saw.

I stopped at season 1. No regrets. Great fucking show. Glad it ended at season 1. Because the mixed reaction to seasons 2 and 3 is not inspiring me to watch them.
I just saw Female Cops being girlbosses in the trailer kicking bad guy's up who are twice their size and lost all interest. And it's not like I hate a Woman Cop, Jodie Foster played one of the best female cops ever as Clarice!
But she's not Supercop here, she's fucking terrified (anyone would be terrified except some real elite commando). She freaks out and unloads her gun and luckily takes out Buffalo Bill. That's a realistic portrayal of an unironic STRONG WOMAN. Don't give me that crap Foster (now 30+ years OLDER) is going to just take out the trash.

David Milch is also a hack. His shows are forgettable outside of actors and costumes carrying his mediocre dialog and stories because HBO would give him enormous budgets for certain series. And his other works are just generic network shows. No one puts stuff like John from Cincinnati or Luck on the levels of The Sopranos or The Shield or the top foreign prestige shows. Even Deadwood, his best show, imploded and he quit working on it to go gamble.

He's just a well connected jew slob who has a good publicity firms to get his name mentioned constantly. He also gambled away a rumored $105million in the span of a decade. And according to one lawsuit was close to $20million in debt at one point. So he is a retard as well. Now living a facility.

Watched episode one of the new season of this, (I am a sucker for isolation/thing-esque horror) the opening was actually very good, full on strange isolation horror in an Arctic research station in Alaska. But then as it goes on, I am already seeing where it is probably heading, and its disappointing.
I was optimistic it would be similar to the Terror, or 30 Days of Night, or this one Norwegian (I think) show about people in a town going nuts, or even some weird serial killer like in Hannibal (the series)/the first season of True Detective, but sadly, that seems to not be the case. Instead its probably going to be some kind of revenge killings based on the murder of a native woman, that seems to be connected to the men working at the research station. Basically, massive wasted potential and a plot line that has been done too much now in various forms of media, instead of some interesting isolation mystery horror.

People are already sprculating the whole, "she's awake" thing is linked to heavy metals and white people enacting ecoterrorism.

Unless they are going full supernatural, the hallucinations are likely a result of some type of mineral poisoning or contamination. Lots of books and mini-series have done this exact story including doing it in the arctic. The general plot is that a mining or research company pollutes the water supply of a city or town and then fails to cover it up. This causes an outbreak and mass casualty event. Lots of shows have done this plot as well but the cause was not just "evil corporations" but "global warming" as well.

Just think of stuff like The Thing (where they dig up an alien infection), or The Rig or The Andromeda Strain. The clues are already there like the awful CGI deer leaping from a cliff after smelling something airborne. And tons of references to food and water already. Instead of "cosmic horror" like Lovecraft or Event Horizon we have this new modern genre of like "climate horror". Where global warming and oil companies are killing everyone.

I don't know if it's speculation or if it's been confirmed, but it does appear this was an original production with the True Detective label attached for marketing purposes. I saw some familiar names listed as executive producers, which I assume means HBO paid them for the rights to use the name.

And it does appear they're going for the environmental poisoning explanation for the weird goings-on. The ice cores and/or mine had a crazy-making compound in them, and climate change will unleash it across the whole world. Either that, or the visions and voices are some vague spirituality or serendipitous female intuition. Maybe all of the above. They did mention the researchers were studying the origin of life (do ice cores go back 3.5GY?), and as we all know, the l'origine du monde is female.

Nomen only sometimes being omen, I don't think we've seen a true detective yet. Everyone is uniformed. But anyone can detect something, right? In a police force of three people, everyone has to be a beat cop, a desk sergeant, and a detective. Given the lack of detectives and the questionable pedigree of this season, I will refer to the first three seasons as Real True Detective to set them apart from this thing.

Finally, I was glad to see the polar bear from Lost is still getting work.

This was confirmed by the new head writer in an NPR interview. She flat out said that the show was written then HBO decided to rewrite it with True Detective references and rename the show. What wasn't said was that the scripts were terrible but Jodie Foster had already signed on and they needed anything to salvage it. Also Pizzolatto seems to hate the show and his name being on the show prominently.

Good to know. I won't even waste my time with it then. I was already disappointed with Fargo this season and struggled to continue watching it.

Not really.

With only one episode out that apparently wasn't that bad, there's more people that either don't get what the deal is with it or think it's going to be ok based off the first episode.
Yeah, it's weird. People have even pointed out that in terms of ratings on IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes, it's doing better than season two and about as well as season three. Which makes me think the season's quality is going to nosedive and they're just pre-emptively creating a defense for when people really start trashing it.

Yeah I saw that. Given only one episode out though, it's really dumb to make that comparison so I think you're right, they know it's going to tank.

Immediately lost interest when it became obvious that tatted up cheek-pierced STRONK KWEEN was going to be the pivotal character
She’s a terrible actress to boot. Complete amateur. This is one of those cases where you could fill a lot of roles with talented Native actors and it would make sense because of the story and locale. But they couldn’t even get that right by hiring some boxer chick with literally one lone credit to her name.

Probably just rewatch season one.
