I like the show, overall it has been more hit than miss. It really feels like a TNG "Gaiden" and in many respects not having a legacy of predecessor shows to follow up allows for more creative freedom.
Also I like the self-imposed limitation of not having transporter technology as a storytelling crutch or Deus Ex Machina device. I have my criticism of some aspects of the show that don't make no sense ( I will make a proper argument in a post at a later date), but overall it is an enjoyable, if campy at times, sci-fi romp.

That said, I still don't like the spaceship design of The Union. Those oval rings are a pain in the ass to navigate every time a shuttle has to dock and the shape reminds me of toilet seats.

Teaser for the next episode titled "From Unknown Graves":

That last episode was pretty damn good. One of the best time travel episodes I've seen in any scifi show despite the low stakes.
The big takeaway I got from this episode is that Ed and Kelly have never truly felt love, only infatuation. Gordon's reaction at the end of "how could I be so selfish?" also flabbergasted me. Bug the biggest crime is that they weren't three months late and having the egg salad sandwich pop back up to at least lighten the mood a little at the end of a heavy episode. That damn thing better show up in a later episode and have consequences of some kind.
Dunno, Gordon's reaction felt reasonable. Like Ed and Kelly, he hasn't known true love by that point. As for the sandwich, I think it's a very subtle nod at permant timeline fuckery due to them traveling forward in time in a different manner than how they travelled backward.

I loved how much I hated Ed and Kelly by the end of the episode. Everything about it was excellent

I fully expect Gordon to find a message on his phone either from his other self or his family.

I'm just hoping Seth's memberberries are done for the season and we get more original plots now instead of consequences from the first two seasons back to back to back. Don't get me wrong, the episodes have been great, they just could have been spread out further (Either in season or over multiple seasons)

I don't think season 4 is happening, and it seems like Seth knew that as well when planning this season.

I cope by telling myself that since this is obviously Seth's passion project and there's been such a huge gap between seasons already that even if there's not another season confirmed after this, there's the possibility they could always return to production much later. That being said, I'd rather it end on a high note entirely than keep going and get shitty.

it would be a true shame, The Orville is better than any modern trek product there is. This is the Star Trek fans want.

But being an off brand Star Trek really does affect its chances with executives. With them owning Star Wars, Disney simply might not want a Star Trek type when they have Star Wars.

This is Trek in all but name. But it is still an off-brand Star Trek.

And all the Trek fans that didn’t give it a chance expecting a parody are truly missing out. This show being successful would have been the loudest speaking with your wallet against Modern Trek there would have been.

I'm probably being :optimistic: as fuck, but I'd like to think that The Orville has had some influence on the Trek side of things, seeing how Paramount now seem to be treating Strange New Worlds and Lower Decks as the face of the franchise, while Discovery feels like it's pretty much being handled as a contractual obligation project.

Is it just me, or did the Kaylons' backstory feel just a bit too much like that of the Geth? Okay, I know the whole "oppressed robots overthrow their creators" thing wasn't exactly original even in their case, but the flashbacks in this week's episode really seemed to be copying the flashbacks from Mass Effect 3 note-for-note.

Still not as jarring as Picard season 1 literally using Mas Effect footage during that shock montage the Romulans went through.

I kinda liked seeing the Kaylon backstory. But it did feel kind of absurd, that the Kaylons creators just became 'evil' overnight. There was no movement to try and emancipate the clearly sentient beings? No creators, taking Kaylon off world and freeing them? I feel like, if they wanted to show a proper Kaylon backstory they really need to dedicate an entire episode to it; rather than stick it in between an 'Isaac is just an autistic man in a silver pyjama suit'; and a 'Aren't these femdom aliens really weird.' segment.

They just thought they were robot servants. By the time they fully became sentient, it was too late. They had a bunch of cruel, retarded children that helped them on that path too.

i liked the femdom aliens
they were awful, in a weirdly entertaining way
oh no, my soft hands have gained me the attention of a forward female who enjoys ravaging men
the horror~
