It's just a Western cultural thing, dating back well before Calvin. We like logic, rules, study and understanding God in a rational sense.in the reformed world, apophatic theology isn't a thing in the same way lapsarianism isnt a thing in eo. and theological study is the key stone of reformed christianity; john calvin was a lawyer after all. one could say its a feature of the west in general. protestants are keen scriptureproofers.
Even the Catholic form of our shared sacrament of Confession is very legalistic.
