Sonic Movie Thread - From a Disastrous Teaser/Trailer to Not That Bad a Movie; Got a Sequel

I was gonna say I was disappointed that Jim Carey still didn't look like Robotnik but from the trailer it looks like he'll be "upgrading" into the design he uses in the games as time progresses.

Holy smokes, I am unironically hyped now.

Eh.....at the very least it breaks even domestically, but is a surprising success overseas.

I mean its a dumb kids movie that has recieved disproportionate attention, much of it positive as of late due to the redesign, so I think it will probably do ok. As much as I wish for memes to become reality again, and for it to wind up more profitable than the coming Star Wars sequel, I think we should be conservative and not assume any miracle is going to happen that will make this a smash hit

Ehh, I respect that they sincerely tried to make it better and it is a fairly nice iteration of Sonic for live action purposes, but I would have been far more likely to actually pay money to have seen the Gangstas Paradise monstrosity in a theater than A Nicely Competent Sonic Movie

I just realized something: in this film Sonic comes from another dimension planet. Does this mean at some point in the film Eggman will attempt a... dimensional merge.

Any ways the film actually looks.......... decent. Not a must see but maybe something for a slow weekend or a rental

Everything this guy touches turns into autistic blue hedgehog gold, so I'm not surprised it (the design, not the movie) looks as good as it does in that case.

Yeah, Sonic looks fine now, I guess. Doesn't really look like it'll be B-movie schlock anymore, but it has Jim Carrey being wacky and who knows how many more of those we'll ever see. I'll probably rent it when it comes out on home video from that place next to Caldor.

Remember The Emoji Movie? That trash that everyone made fun of?
Well, it was a huge hit and one of Sony's most profitable movies of that year.
Why? Because everyone saw it "ironically" to make fun of it.
Sony didn't care about the reasoning while they were counting the millions.

If I was a kid today, I'd love emojis and probably build out little cities in a Notes app using the building ones. I know I'd wanna go see The Emoji Movie, too. They had Patrick Stewart playing Poop, and a well-spoken aristocratic voice coming out of a pile of feces is very, very funny to children. I never did see it though, so I have no idea if child me would have liked it.
