The bait and switch theory always seemed really dumb to me. What's the point of wasting so much time and money when the only result of that is that people think it's terrible and made by out of touch hollywood executives. As opposed to say, making something good from the start that people would want to watch.
I think people want to believe that theory because they have a hard time believing such a creepy, uncanny valley design could get the greenlight. And while I wish I could believe that sentiment, I haven't forgotten The Polar Express and it's creepy, lifeless eyes.

Just keep in mind this guy praised The Last Jedi and got buttmad that people didn't like his poorly thought out opinions.

You can say the movie is shit all you want just IHE is a phony so...hah.

I mean, motion-cap was still new technology at the time. It's become much dated now, but it helped lay down new ground for animation at the very least. The studio never did seem to learn how to better their animation and make it less uncanny, hence they went bankrupt after Mars Needs Moms bombed hard.

Sonic seems to have been decided by executive suits who are still stuck in 2007 with Alvin and the Chipmunks. Reports about the production prior to Paramount getting the project don't give much outside of "Sega disproved of the eyes, but couldn't do much about it because they weren't involved."

It can do really good things, but making things too realistic falls hard when the eyes fall flat (or making an animal look too human in this case). We haven't even figured it out yet for robots, even. At any rate I don't think it's too unusual for godawful designs to make it to the final product just because somebody higher up the chain overruled everyone else due to personal preferences. This is just one of the few instances where they realized it was a bad idea before it was too late.

Im starting to see multiple slap fights over the new Sonic movie all over Twitter. It's amazing how much autism a blue hedgehog can attract.
For real though, the original design Sonic was the least of the movies problems. The plot still seems to be the same, unless they somehow are completely redoing it, which is unlikely considering the time frame from the first trailer drop to now.

It's releasing on Valentine's day because they want Chris to be able to have a lovequest date for his favorite blue dude. That or they wanna kill the mood of that day faster than Sonic.

Apparently Disney was supposed to have Fox’s Kingsman prequel open on the same day as Sonic The Hedgehog, but it looks like the Mouse is scared about Sonic now since it delayed the Kingsman prequel to September 2020 now.

>tfw you have to choose between saving this or that Jerry Lewis holocaust clown movie

I'm picking the Jerry Lewis film. On my deathbed, I'm going to be really fucking angry if I haven't seen the Lewis one. My last words may very well be holy fuck you fuckers you didn't keep me alive long enough to see The Day the Clown Cried.

I think over in the thread about it there's a reconstruction of about twenty minutes worth of footage. Obviously it's not the full movie but it's a whole lot more than I realized was floating around out there about it.

Honestly I think this new Sonic design will carry the film, even going so far as to picking up Jim Carrey's slack. Call me optimistic, but man they just fucking nailed it. Plus the second trailer is much more charming and fun than the first for more reasons than Sonic's terror mode model.

lol they got chased away by a blue cartoon hedgehog. Guess they don't want to catch the autism.
