This reminds me of those awful Alvin and the Chipmunks movies, where the chipmunks looked extremely cartoony and clashed horribly with the live action humans.

I also see they still haven't given him socks, which makes his shoes look uncomfortable (and are now Nike all of a sudden).

I think it's because underneath the semi-vaguely realistic fur texture and human-shaped arms and legs he still has cartoon body proportions. Larger eyes emphasize this while the smaller ones contribute to the problem.
