I generally never like talking politics with anyone, but especially Americans. The tendencies to vocabulary terms to cut off conversations is annoying in my opinion. It doesn't help that certain terms in the American vernacular is different compared to other countries.

It took me a long time to realize that liberal in American politics is leftist where as in other countries, its referencing right wing policies in terms of liberal economic policies.

I tend to roll my eyes at people on both sides that expect the US citizen to take drastic political changes and even advocate political violence...but cannot be bothered to vote.

I can never figure out what an American will mean when they use political terms like socialism as it seems to cover everything from the Khmer Rouge to the government of Norway.

I personally just feel that there are many things I love about the US and there are things I think should be I improved. But talking about these things in a meaningful way is a pain in the ass.

Communism for the most part has benefited the world. Russia and China were both backwards, feudal hellholes before their revolutions. Within fifty years both had been transformed into modern, advanced societies. Under socialism Russia became the first country to put a man in space, and in China living standards improved dramatically. I genuinely don't get how someone could argue that those countries were in a better place before socialism than after it.

And when it comes to socialism in the modern era, I would much rather live in Cuba than in, say, Haiti or Guatemala. They may not have political freedom but the quality of life the people of Cuba enjoy is far higher than almost anywhere else in Central America and the Caribbean. Socialism can be taken too far (Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge in particular), but in general it is enormously beneficial to all but the most privileged classes in society.

You do realize that China didn't become economically prosperous until after Mao died and Deng Xiaoping essentially implemented an authoritarian form of capitalism that used communist terminology and imagery, right?

As for the Soviet Union, the closest thing Communism has had to a major success story, they collapsed within a century and Russia was a economic mess because of the shit that happened as a direct result of Communist policies. Even though Russia has since made major steps to recovery, they still haven't fully recovered due to the horrors of the Bolsheviks and their successors.

Lenin was a bloodthirsty tyrant and Stalin simply took Lenin's work and expanded upon it.

The Romanovs were pathetic lolcows in their own right, but Russia was probably better off under them than Lenin or Stalin.

China and Vietnam are capitalist states with a communist veneer. The only fully dedicated communist states that are actually practicing communism are Cuba and North Korea.

North Korea is a shithole and is probably the one country more despised by the international community than Israel (at least Israel can feed its own people and doesn't have a dead guy as their de jure head of state)

Cuba is barely functional and their "quality of life" is grossly misrepresented and misunderstood. Yes, Cuba is a better place to live than Haiti, but that's like saying a .45 to the head is better than burning to death.

In terms of political ideology, the only thing worse than Marxist-Leninism or Maoism is the SJW pet ideology of Anarcho-Communism.

The Soviets could not have quickly beat the Nazis (if at all) if it weren't for the United States helping them out. The USA was keeping Fascist Italy and Imperial Japan busy, allowing the Soviets to focus more on fighting Germany while also keeping Germany tied up in North Africa, Italy, and later on in France and Belgium.

Stalin knew he could not take on the Axis Powers all at once which is why he signed a neutrality pact with Nazi Germany in 1939, and the Soviets did not enter the war until the summer of 1941 when the Wehrmacht invaded the Soviet Union and forced the USSR's hand. The USA joined in the war later that year.

You go on about how great Marx and Engels were, but I bet you've never read any of their books.

In all fairness, if we'd have aimed machine guns at every civilian we could grab up and told them to charge in massed hordes, this would probably be planet USA.

I don't know if it's a myth or not, but I think the biggest mistake the US made during WW2 was to stop moving east. Supposedly, the Soviets had snagged up a couple thousand or more allied personnel as hostages to prevent this sort of thing.
