I don't mean in the way of "ben shapiro owns the libs, trigger the feminists" type of socialism, because we all know any of those types get laughed out of here, but I was actually curious if there were any Kiwis here who support redistributing the wealth? We talk so much about capitalism and it's wonders, I'd figure I'd see if there's any in here.

It's a nice idea on paper, but it wouldn't ever work. Marx foresaw an all powerful state that would would control production and steer the direction of humanity away from God and family to their fellow man. The basic jist is that the superstate would eventually no longer be necessary because people would see the wonder of just being cool with each other and supporting the whole collective. That is the state of Communism.

The ideology/economic system doesn't take human nature into account very well. The rich have an absurd amount of wealth, enough that a higher tax rate is not only fair, but completely irrelevant to people with so much money. Actually making a system work is the issue. Not as easy as a lot of people think.

I'd consider myself a moderate socialist. I think the purpose of the state should be to ensure necessitates to its citizens and infrastructure , pretty much exclusively. Maybe some kind of earning cap for people making obscene amounts of money.

I don't consider myself a socialist but I am sympathetic to some ideas. I support universal healthcare and not some half-assed mutant ACA system that still keeps the insurance company as the most important party in the equation. I've dealt with the American healthcare administration system as it stands enough to tell you it needs to be rebuilt from the ground up to be patient centered. Not opposed to a system for paid medical system for optional stuff or something.

I also think that things like public libraries and schools are a great idea...in theory, if not in practice. The library problem of hobos using it as a place to consume pornography or piss on the floor might be solved by providing mental health care facilities for them.

Public schools on the other hand would need to go the opposite direction and dissolve the power of the teacher's union that gives them the power to protect incompetent teachers.

Socialism is good but 80% of self proclaimed socialists are bluepilled and have neoliberal tendencies, which is the antithesis of supporting the working class. Anti immigration dudes like Trump probably align most with the material interests of the working class.

If you were to redistribute all the wealth, immediately, today, so everyone had the same amount, in a year most of the people who were rich before would be rich again, and most of the people who were poor would be poor again. The rich aren't always trust-fund babies- many of them know how to make a buck, and make it fast. Poverty isn't always inflicted by fat cats in gold limos- sometimes, it's a result of exceptional people making exceptional choices. The only way to stop that would be to have a strong, central government that actively suppresses those trying to get rich and actively props up stupid people making themselves poor.

Eh, I can support some forms of social democracy and I think America could go for some more social democratic programs (that don't compromise the free market completely) so long as we can keep the First and Second Amendments and actually enforce their anti-trust laws on Silicon Valley (which they won't, even now)

But the kind of socialism that AOC and her ilk support? Fuck that bullshit nonsense.

Straight up socialism isn't really feasible in the US. Social democracy and democratic socialism on the other hand is a different story, I think it could work here. People who think "socialism" is just a large government that has a high rate of taxation are braindead.

Pinochet was pretty obviously a corrupt puppet of our government who protected literal pedophiles, idolizing him is pretty fucking stupid.

Socialism and Communism (in their proper forms, not as colloquialisms), are fucking gay. I support public support programs for the citizenry and have no great love for the corporate whores that run our government, but every time there's a left-leaning revolution, it turns to shit in some form or fashion.

Also everyone who wholeheartedly believes in and preaches Marxism is a bourgeois faggot that wouldn't survive in the USSR. Stop bragging about how you know how the niggers feel cold you social science degree holding waste of oxygen.
