We may laugh, but willingness to fight and die trumps better equipment in these blood feuds and street battles.
I'm pretty sure a lot of the cartels recruited from the US trained Mexican Special Forces. It's not going to be every enforcer who has training, but they have their own well equipped teams who make a whole lot more than they did doing counterinsurgency. Doesn't one of the cartels have a few Blackhawks, or is that just a myth?

We may laugh, but willingness to fight and die trumps better equipment in these blood feuds and street battles. If half the local national guard mutiny/desert in the face of these guys it doesnt matter whether not not their Crye Percision gear is real or a chinese knockoff. Plus a lot of the 'almost as good' military clothing and nylon kit is made in Latin America, they can get it from the source.
You're treating these people as if they're of the same mentality as battle hardened Islamic terrorists. These people fold when pressed by the fucking coast guard and are only consistently good at killing the unarmed. Trust me, a couple hundred drone strikes on the people leading each major gang is all it will take for them to fall apart and destroy themselves from the infighting caused by a succession crisis. From that point forward, you'd force the Mexican government to do a purge of their corrupt politicians and remove all forms of cartel influence. The model for this was created when the west orchestrated Euromaiden and objectively speaking here, it's significantly easier since you wouldn't be fucking with the interests of a global superpower like Russia.

To be perfectly fair, the rules of what it can be called came from Mexico. If Mexico no longer is Mexico but US - South, we can just unfuck those rules and make them easier to manage.
I don't want Mexico. I want a bigger wall and more / cheaper Mezcal.

We should ban Tequila to improve the availability and quality of Agave based spirits in the US.

crye has a short shelf life if you do any meaningful work in them. ripstop or not, they're hilariously fragile. lap pockets are a game changer . shame no one else makes pants with them.

There is a fallacy in this reasoning: you'd think that every normal Mexican is united on all their issues and every normal Mexican has a Taco-Cart and makes enough money to survive. This is simply not true. You can bomb the baddies all day, but when there is low-bar entry into and serious money to be made doing crime like this we might as well be bombing Afghanistan again. What needs to happen is that the economic situation there needs to be unfucked. But fuck you and me, we arn't going to be doing that when we ourselves can't agree on our own domestic economic policy.

What's the benefit of lap pockets? Lap pockets don't sound as useful as holster pockets. A bunch of companies make holster pocket pants and they are super useful in construction so I could definitely see them being super useful in combat.

Why don't we just genetically engineer some beetle or blight to destroy all the coca trees? No more coca trees, no more cocaine.

This is true and it's why Ukraine remained a corrupt hell hole even after 2013. Unfucking the economy would require a monumental amount of work and relies upon the improvement of the culture down there. Mexico is a low trust society and the only way to increase trust is to increase security and organization which requires foreign support in Mexico's case due to how dysfunctional the government is. Politicians down there who want to start reforms either get killed or ostracized by other high ranking officials and or politicians.
The problem with foreign support is that it is never a fucking charity; a nation will only support another if it serves some geopolitical interest(s) they have and will tolerate corruption if it doesn't interfere. This is why the west allowed for the Banderites to hoard power in the AfU and continue to recklessly escalate the war in Donbas up until February 24, 2022 because the western MIC could make money.

There is Geopolitical purpose: A stable neighbor to the US south, which gives economic benefits regionally which benefits everyone, and specifically for US republican concerns-- less migrants. I have no idea where the Ukraine angle came from, we are talking specifically about Mexico.

The Ukraine angle comes from the fact that we are talking about a nation's government being changed by a foreign entity which is what happened with Ukraine.
I never stated that there isn't a geopolitical purpose for the US to intervene and reorganize the Mexican government, my point is that this intervention wouldn't be some act of kindness and is simply for the sake of money and national security and therefore, a pretty high level of corruption would be tolerated as seen with Ukraine and literally every other western backed nation.
You could make a point that Mexico would be a special case and held to a slightly higher standard given the proximity but at the end of the day, no nation can be fixed entirely by another. In the real world, people like to take advantage of things at the expense of others.

We seem to be not tolerating it in Iran and we seem to be on the verge of going back to the middle east for another 20 years. But thats whole 'nother thread.

Lmao Im sure DSP will have a crashout over this. I also seen one saying Ralph helped with the assassination and referred to him as El gunto.
