Marvel Cinematic Universe

They really should've done a TV series or something for the character. Launching him in at the deep end and (actual spoilers) making him an Avenger apparently is too much, too soon.
Assemble the Chink Avengers

It'll be composed of this guy, his ugly girlfriend a.k.a. Marvel's Katy and Dr. Strange's fat sidekick, huhmazin

They are now pushing that Shan-Chi could make the world a better place.

"Could an Asian-American superhero in a gargantuan Marvel epic actually change hearts and minds? Could it make the world more inclusive?"

From some puff piece in the media about the film. So yeah, the memo has clearly been sent out. The film is culturally significant and ending white supremacy. That is important. The quality of the film is not. Now that memo has been sent out, people will praise the film on these lofty expectations, over if it is good or not. You can't be against helping the world be more inclusive? So you have to support this film.

Drink every time a review mentions, covid, raise in anti-Asian hate crime, Trump, white supremacy, Black Panther.

They want this to be their next black panther but don't realize that asians don't give nearly a fuck about "representation" like blacks do, and that asians don't all identify as one race.

Hope this shit stagnates, but I'm guessing there are enough white soyboys to prop it up. Not to Black Panther levels of course, but enough to give Disney an optics win.

and pretend that all the previous Asian action stars don't exist and were never popular despite one getting a cartoon based off him. No no this superhero movie of a character that most people don't know existed until now is truly the first again hero movie.

This week's What If? was actually pretty good. Continues the tradition of Marvel series having mediocre third episodes followed by arguably the best one.

These people really like to sniff their own farts, huh?

Yes, your multi-million dollar blockbuster designed to sell toys is going to end white supremacy. Good job assholes.

Meanwhile, I'll just keep watching Bruce Lee, Godzilla, and Kurosawa films like I've been doing for decades.

This week's episode of What If complicates the MCU time travel/multiverse rules and shennanigans even further, with the addition of "Absolute Points" in time that when broken cause the destruction of the entire universe, the Eye of Agamoto being used to time travel (why didnt Strange use it in Infinity War then?) and the possibility of multiple timelines existing inside the same universe and not creating a branch of time/parellel dimension.

Where does Kang and the TVA fit in all this? Who the fuck knows

They even blackwashed Uatu

I assume Strange may have wanted to use the Eye in IW but thought better of it since he also didn't use it against the telekinetic guy. As for the multiple timelines in one universe , the Ancient One specifically said the dark dimension powered that so it's probably exempt from the split timeline thing.

Hull trying to be smart and cover plot holes, only for the entire thing to be rendered pointless by other franchise entries not giving the slightest shit, will never not be funny.

Not every shark needs its voodoo curse.

I still maintain that What-If is building to something like this.

He’s gonna offer them what what they lost/desire most.
Peggy-A healthy and not dead Steve Rogers
T’Challa-A world not devoured by Space Dad.
Hank-Hope and Janet, alive and well
Steven-Christine Palmer alive and well in a world where he’ll probably rule as God-King Injustice style.

He didn't use the Eye to stop Thanos and the snap, but decided to use to save his GF? I thought the "What If" in this episode was that he didnt lose his hands, not that he suddenly decided that time travel was ok.

Seems like Ultron will be the overall threat for What If? judging by this new promo. Warmonger (as Black Panther) and episode 4's Doctor Strange will also be part of the Multiverse Avengers.

Is Killmonger going to be successful in creating his perfect negro ethnostate? Is this all acording to Kang's keikaku?

Answered in Loki, it was suppose to happen including the Avengers going to the past, Infinity war is/was a absolute point in time and could not be changed that is why Strange saw possible futures as a solution and not ways to change the past

The most funny thing about it, is that if you see it on perspective, the entire episode is just Madoka Magica: Rebellion but with Dr strange :story:

Did they talk about this "Absolute Points" thing in Loki at all? I don't remember it. I thought the way it worked was that Kang devised the best possible timeline that would never lead to any other Kang showing up and had the TVA going around melting ppl whenever anything that didnt go according to Kangs plan happened, this apparently includes melting randos who work avarage jobs and even some ppl that are late to work.

I thought that was the entire point of the Loki series, that there is only one timeline, the one Kang is manipulating in the "Place Beyond Time" or whatever, and that the multiverse only became a thing after he was killed. With that in mind, I don't understand how there could be spells and stuff out there about "Absolute Points" written by a wizard however milennia ago, or even Dr. Strange's "We know very little about the multiverse" line in the No Way Home trailer.

The "Asia is a monoculture" vibe is strong in the virtue signalling around it. The puff piece I quoted earlier went on about the Asian representation, with a whole section about the American born, half Japanese director. How this is great representation for him. Him talking about growing up Asian in America.

It reminds me of how Black Panther was not about or for Black people in Africa. It was some weird origin story, fake culture stuff for black American's completely disconnected and ignorant about Africa.

I don't get the impression Asian people in the west are as culturally disconnected. There also is a pretty distinct understanding of different Asian cultures. Even most non-Asians in the west would have some understandings of different cultures even if just through cuisine. Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese, Thai, Korean, Indian etc are all known as distinct.

Asia also makes a lot of cinema with international appeal. Platforms like Netflix are full of it. This whole angle of, "Asians on-screen" just seems somewhat silly. It's very much "in an American film."

I just don't think people really will give a shit the way they are claiming or think. It's just another film. Not a cultural moment.
