The documentary didn't do anything but appeal to emotion. They want you to feel sorry for these men who obviously want money because they're not living the good life anymore. Wade made a big mistake defending him in 2003 if he claims that Michael was abusing him the whole time. That's going to bite him in the ass and he knows it.
I think it's perfectly fair to scrutinize their motivations for participating in the documentary, but what's the financial incentive? If they want money from Jackson's family, it seems counter-intuitive that they'd dump all the most salacious details into a highly visible documentary. In fact, by going public they've made it impossible to pursue any kind of payoff from the estate for their silence, which would be the most obvious and lucrative path for monetary gain.
