It's actually jarring how different the Halo Online armor is when you have them side-by-side with the Halo 3 armor. Why'd they have to add these to Halo 3 of all things? They'd fit 2A/4 a hell of a lot more, this is such a let down.
You would think with how much support the Infinite armor is getting for maintaining a classic Halo style, that they'd release new MCC armor that matched that aesthetic. I get this armor already exists, but you absolutely need to keep that in mind when choosing what game to release the armor for at the very least.

I don't know how they'd do it, maybe either randomize the pieces, randomize it but keep it a consistent set, or set it to the default Mark VI. The new helmets for Reach look much more in line with its artstyle and were going to be DLC anyways, so I don't mind them being added. I'm gonna be pissed if they include weapon skins for Reach with the new season and we can't disable those, though.
So far, no weapon skins for Reach in the customization menus, but if they do get added at some point, I imagine they'll have the same toggle as the 1/3 skins. Kinda wonder what else they have planned for the future. There are still a few armor sets from Halo 4 DLC that haven't been ported that they said they'd like to include, so that's probably a given in a later season. Halo 2 has no customization options yet, so maybe we'll see visor recolors and weapon skins for that game at some point. Beyond that, I dunno if they have any more in-development items that they can clean up and include like the Mariner and AKIS helmets. Maybe more Halo Online armors, I know they have more than these twelve.

I imagine there are two reasons. First, Halo Online was already basically running off of a version of Halo 3 (which is how El Dewrito came into being), so the armors are likely easier to port back into that game than putting them into the others. Second, I imagine the decision to include these armors in 3 was probably made independently of the changes to Infinite's artstyle, and it's likely a question of "what have we got?" that made them decide to include them for season 5. Instead of just another season of weapon/armor skins (which we've gotten three of in a row, not counting unlocking the ODST squad members), throwing in some new armor permutations adds some variety.

I agree that they'd fit the artstyle of H2A or 4 more, but I'm not overly concerned. It's not the worst thing ever in the grand scheme of things, and I'll keep using my Halo 3 set that I always have. Hopefully they can add a toggle to disable the new sets if you don't want to see them. Until then, if you see someone with Halo Online armor on, that should give you additional encouragement to utterly destroy them and make them regret looking like a Mongolian flipbook character.

Hate to burst bubbles but I saw an alleged Discord screenshot of a 343 employee saying the new armors won't be able to be disabled like the other skins.

I don't even know why they're doing it, I guess it's to try and "make up" for Halo Online being shut down and the shitstorm that ensued? But yeah, the aesthetics totally clash.

Great, just what I wanted, to be reminded that Halo 4 and 5 exist while playing Halo 3.

They are indeed working on a toggle, but it's another basic feature we're going to have to wait for it seems.

So it looks like another vidya community autism implosion is happening right now. I feel it's fitting to bring it up on the Farms just because. Favyn, a Halo YouTuber, announces he is done and leaving the community... or retiring from being any kind of contributor, considering how meaningless that word can be sometimes, given social media addictions and all that.

To be honest, I find HiddenXperia's cockney accent to be truly unfortunate and made worse by his plastic enthusiasm for any real news. I stopped giving two shits about Installation00's videos because he defended 343i's coatings from the backlash telling people to "lol calm down"... While not really addressing any of the key particulars as to how replacing color customization is such a transparently bullshit move. There's not much more to Halo's Youtube scene other than "consume product, then consume more and never ask any questions about it.".

EDIT: I can't fucking format.

The Halo youtube 'scene' has always been a trashfire. The only people remotely worthwhile are Halo Completionist for guides and General Heed for niche datamining stuff and most importantly neither of them get involved in petty twitter drama (to my knowledge)
Everyone else are painfully boring clout chasers or hilariously stupid like LNG

Really? Has that been reported anywhere? Don't get me wrong, I'd like it to happen but I just haven't seen any statements on it.

That's unfortunate about Favyn. He was very consistent on calling out 343's retarded gameplay decisions, and his vids were for the most part very levelheaded and detailed rather than spergy. Took a lot of shit for it from rabid fanboys but never backed down.

I go back and forth on Xperia. On the one hand he doesn't bend over for absolutely everything 343 does - he's been coming down pretty hard on the armor coating shit in his recent vids for example. But on the other hand he can be pretty spergy at times - his ridiculously over the top fanboy reaction to the Infinite demo is probably the best example of that.

Glad 343 still supports fucking Spartan Assault all 0 players can breath a sigh of relief that it is not dying yet.
Can't say I'm surprised. Halo 3 has been online for about 13 years. Population began to dwindle a couple years within Xbox One's launch.

One of my first online games was Halo 3 in 2011. The population then was in the tens of thousands. Plenty of games I've enjoyed online over the years.

Same with Reach and 4, to a lesser extent. I will miss those days of Halo muliplayer on the 360. Grinding for rank, achievements and armor pieces.

It had a good run.

Specifically, this post by Farn, regarding toggles...

Well, that's good to hear.
343i announced that they will sunset legacy Halo titles for the Xbox 360 to allocate resources for MCC and Halo Infinite effective next year.

Blog post HERE.

Here's a spreadsheet of what services will be affected with this shutdown.
So is "sunsetting" the new buzzword in the video game industry for "shitcanning old content"? Bungie just did it with Destiny too.

Sucks but I can't even think of the last time I touched these games outside MCC, probably when I was just testing out BC on Xbox One for shits and giggles.

Bungie are shutting down Destiny 1?

Yeah the backwards compatible first edition of Halo Reach gone to the birds. Good luck ever finding anyone playing Grifball for anything other than credit exploits. Still, the memories of 360 Halo was precious.

To be fair, the population for those games is probably less than a couple thousand at a time.

Wait, that confirms the discord screenshot was legit then. So what exactly is the "context" of a 343 employee saying they're not going to include a toggle for the Halo Online cosmetics?
Not having seen said screenshot since nobody posted it in the thread and I'm too lazy to go find it myself, my guess for the context is that the Halo Online permutations are launching without a toggle to disable them, but the dev team is looking into implementing a toggle at a later date. The original dev was probably only talking about current plans and was either unaware of future plans or didn't want to discuss things that might not be added to the game.

Again, all speculation on my part, but if I were to make an educated guess on the whole kerfuffle, that would be it.

ETA: I looked up the original screenshot:

And yeah, now that we have more posts about it, I think the initial wording was just unclear. Farns was explaining that a skin toggle is much easier since you're just flipping a texture on or off, and that's why there isn't an armor toggle launching with the Halo Online sets. Then he later clarified by saying that a toggle was something that was being looked into. Would've been better to avoid the confusion from the get-go, but it makes much more sense now.
