Going on fishtank was a symptom of the problem, not the problem itself. She wasn't the victim people want her to be, Ellie was clearly the smartest person in the room at any given point.
I can tell you that college pressure and the paralysis you get when you don't know what you should do with your life between 18 and 24, combined with being on SSRIs, combined with careless parenting, dopamine addiction, porn addiction, and ADD wiring from those addictions is a recipe for suicidal ideation. I've been there. I still regret some of the decisions I did and didn't make while in that state, but thank God I never harmed myself.
Yes, being on Fishtank probably wasn't a mental health reset, or some kind of awakening. It was probably the highlight of her life in some sense, but only because it fit in with some of the wrong parts of her wiring. I believe Jet and crew probably did see her potential and told her to go use her intelligence in college or something. I don't think she wanted to.
If you're reading this and you're young, just pick something that sounds kinda cool career wise and go learn it. Come up with a project idea that you could do (code an app, fix an A/C unit, design a pool, doesn't fucking matter) and go try it. You're allowed and should be encouraged to try different things. You do not need college, but you might as well go if you have a free ride. It won't be as miserable as you think.
It will help to rearrange the furniture in your room, start working out, and adopt different eating habits while you're at it. Clean slate.
The reason why everything sucks is because you're young and hormonal, and you're steeped in the environment that reminds you of your vices and sadness. Change it all at once.
RIP Ellie, arguably the FT contestant with best future ahead of her. This news fucking blows. Blaming Jet is absolutely retarded imo. Kinda funny, but retarded.
