Am I the only one who thinks the cartoon is kind of shit? The casual and crass nature of the original tabletop campaign did not translate well at all to a more traditional story and all the characters are really unlikeable.
No, your not. The problem is that the fanbase for the show is almost exclusively CR fans and they sat through the boring moronic drivel that was CR's second and third campaigns praising it the entire time. So they think the cartoon is gods gift to mankind compared to that self inflicted torture.

Going purely by the ads (because fuck actually watching that shit) it seems like they used the story of the first campaign, but made the characters acts like they were the C2 protagonists. Why the fuck anyone thought that be a good idea, only chucklefuck Mercer knows.

Also, there’s this shit from the Creator Clash 2 fallout.

Apparently they've purged hundreds of their videos off YouTube thanks to one of the members being an insane violent weirdo to his girlfriend. One might think that one of your coworkers being an insane violent weirdo would not be difficult to notice, but it wasn't until after she got a very public restraining order against him that they actually did anything about it.

Which is par for the course with these Hollyweird types. It's not a problem, until it looks bad because you have an Amazon show.

Got an archive for ya. Now I'm wondering if we need to reset the male feminist days counter.

I just tried watching a couple minutes of one of the episodes posted above. This shit is popular? It's painfully boring. I looked up youtube for some best of moment and got this.
https://youtube.com/watch?v=4rgOe5nSUAgTHIS SUCKS. Wow girls laughing. I'd rather watch this 7 minute clip of Chantel from Ridiculousness laughing.

What did you expect when you decided to watch people play Dungeons and Dragons on youtube?

I remember when D&D podcasts first started and the only one that was even remotely tolerable had like five minutes of "gameplay" and 50 minutes of the cast just yelling at each other over dumb shit.

Well, from what I understand, the key to good D and D is three things: 1. The chemistry between the players, 2. How interesting the campaign is, and 3. How well the DM runs the show.

As bad as these examples may be, I think they illustrate these points:

As for Critical Role, the hook that got people interested and curious was that it was a bunch of anime VAs who had been doing these games for years.

This shit has gone way downhill.

They were doing immensely well and then COVID hit. With COVID they essentially had lightning in a bottle. Massive inflated numbers which inflated their ego. Big numbers in merchandise sales as well.

Now that the world is normal again, people don't have the time to listen to them play a 4-5 hour game.

Also, this season sucks. Like really sucks. They are scared to fight anything. The lore is super deep and confounding. Mercer is allowing homebrew classes that don't make sense or are overpowered.

Couple that with "Candela Obscura" (a roleplaying system they published)shitting the bed big time and it looks like trouble in paradise.

Is it the usual fear of accidentally killing a party member and "wasting all the lore" or it's just talking far too much?

Also any interesting takes on candela Obscura? I thought they just played 5e

Why is this surprising to you? They haven't created any meaningful content that was even passable since season 1 way before Covid.

How is them making shit content still surprising??
