Creative works you enjoyed until politics happened - "How politics made me hate Welcome to Nightvale and other things"

I'll pop in on the occasional movie and I listen to pods/music/books a lot at work but those things are curated to fit my tastes.
that's a symptom of being a contagiously miserable sperg
The problem is when your careful curated thing gets co-opted, or they crowbar politics into something that didn't have it.

You mention SCP, which is kind of bad. But then there's DnD, which went from medieval fantasy about killing dragons and stealing treasure, to gay baristas going to prom.

And yes, it is miserable to dwell on it. It's why I don't get on with the 40k "fanbase" who hate the company and the game, but won't leave to greener pastures. Many video gamers too, because they will bemoan the state of AAA gaming, but won't play indie, making excuse after excuse.

I'm having a bit of a struggle with the Netflix adaptation of Neil Gaiman's The Sandman :(
The parts that are tight make up for the poz but they're really doing the bit with this one. The source material was already rather progressive but these (((niggers))) changed 3 essential core characters to women. The one they also niggrified ("Lucienne") is the least egregious since she plays the part well and Lucien was only the Alfred to Morpheus' Batman. Changing John Constantine to his stuck up posh bish granddaughter or whatever for the sake of gutting the source material (a comic book, not the Simarillion) is lazy writing.
But really, Lucifer lost his job to a DEI initiative?

DEI is an idea straight from hell, so it checks out.

I find it incredibly funny that the cuck Gaiman got charged with rape for having a private prostitute. The movement eating its own, priceless.

Leaving is how they take over all this shit.

Eternal retreat isn't the answer.

The biggest virtue signallers are always the worst people. The more someone is convinced that they're essentially a good person, the more fucked up shit they can rationalise away. Never trust someone who tells you with certainty that they're a good person. The best people are those who are fully aware of the grimy bits of their soul and spend their lives trying to make up for it. It's the same whether someone is the wokest of the woke, or the most conservative of the conservative.

or the most conservative of the conservative
In the 90s, family values politicians and pundits turning out to be gay, or on drugs, or other degeneracy was common that it became a meme. These days a lot of people on the right deny that happened, which makes it a shame these people weren't catalogued anywhere.

Leaving is how they take over all this shit.

Eternal retreat isn't the answer.
It's better that giving more and more money to people who hate you and deliver an worse product. Give your money to those who don't bend the knee.

In gaming, AAA studios are dying, $400 million failures, with their soy devs literally screaming at the sky as they get laid off en-mass. Game journalism is a dead profession with less than 40 people working in it.

That, to me, is winning.

And even if you disagree, I think it's far better than the consoomers who are paying $100+ for slop games that they hate, just so they can complain that they shit game everyone knew was going to be shit is, in fact, shit. I don't see how that saves games from being woke if you're rewarding for it.

Not even a complaint about a specific piece of media, but the politics is annoying the shit out of me more than usual lately. You'll always hear such-and-such has "always been political", but that's complete disingenuous manure. There's the idea that some show or game can explore political themes or set a stage and explore ramifications, sure. As long as it doesn't get preachy, they can even throw in more modern hot-button issues. Letting the politics be a worldbuilding exercise that believable characters navigate? Great.

That's WAY different from "Here is a (stand-in for company). It is overcharging this person in a ludicrous, strawmannish way. Allow my self-insert brown lady character to take two minutes to bitch directly at the camera about the inevitable consequences of CAPITALISUMM". That's not natural political exploration. It's Yet Another College Marxist ramming their favorite game, bitching about Boogity Boogity Capitalism, into every single thing they write.

Joe McCarthy for Senate please. Get these obnoxious septum-pierced utopian communists out of writers' chairs. We already know all of their annoying beliefs. I don't need to hear yet another snarling black lady say "well that's CAPITALISM FOR YOU" any time anything negative happens in yet another fucking show. It's almost as annoying as terminally online leftoids following up with "WOW, wow, this game is SO topical, I *wish* this were an exaggeration but (this ridiculous, nonsensical, throw-my-political-opponents-in-a-death-camp-level strawman plot) is HAPPENING IN REAL LIFE NOW".

True. It just feels like defeat. The way how many internet-spaces were taken over by the crowd of degenerates, by infecting it, and removing 'extremists', 'problematic', and in the end the ones not clapping hard enough.

Giving away money to people that hate you won't fix things, maybe it all should burn, maybe that's the only way to destroy the rot.

Its really two things here:

Which is most important? The politics, or the story/entertainment?

If the show is focused on politics, is that why I'm actually here? If I'm playing D&D, the answer is clearly no. If I'm not, and I want something like legend of the galactic heroes, how deep are the politics? It better be more than something a 19 year old college student could come up with and the trite ' capitalism' bad.

The other part is, people can use politics to tell a story, can interweave it into their stories, etc, but its so over the head obnoxious and surface level, that it just becomes something unwatchable half the time. I like people discussing modern issues. I like getting to episodes of shows that explore contemporary topics. I hate when its done without nuance though, and thats all I see currently. Stephen Universe 'and thats why the white heteronormative antagonist is bad and we need to accept diversity" esque politics is the dullest thing to see these shows infused with.

Good stories need moral dilemmas to push them, and that often verges on politics,

but people insert both the worst, least nuanced, politics possible + put that above the actual entertainment and story and good storywriting.

I have an issue with this mentality

"just go to greener pastures". Well, go to WHERE exactly? I mean this question beyond simply fanbase over nerd shit, I also mean things like our political shitshow nightmare we all live in.

There is NOWHERE you can go where they havent reached first or wont eventually. There is no more "new world" to run off to like our ancestors had. Its going to reach a point where we will need stop running.

But hey, at least with nerd shit, we can make our own IPs, right? Yes, you'd be right, but I'd argue that its becoming harder to create something that is able to reach a certain level of popularity and not get quickly corrupted from the inside out. Im not even talking about the possibilities of companies actively boycotting your creation because you refuse to culturally play ball to their demands to "woke-fy" things.

Im just saying that running, be it from nations or fanbases, is really becoming a less viable solution and it will just embold them to seek out more because this is more than this land or this fanbase but a much much bigger game at hand.

Reminds me of something often brought by "alt right" youtubers, aka, the few ones with a spine.

"You arent allowed to be 'evil' anymore in gaming."

One of the go to examples is Fallout New Vegas, you'd never be allowed to even entertain the idea of joining the Legion had that game come out today. Villains, especially in RPGs, arent allowed to be too complex and engaging because you wouldnt want the player to be tempted to join then, right? And even if they are, the option to join them will either not be there or if you do, you get an instant bad ending.

Its such a moralistic sanitization of gaming

It's a case by case thing.

Like I was saying with @the Oddfather the ideal scenario is they don't get infected in the first place. If they are infected, maybe you can get them to change course. If the rot is set in deep enough, it's better to just abandon them than the consoomer mindset of throwing money at them and complaining online in the hope they'll change. Throwing money at Marvel and Star Wars movies didn't get them to change course. It was bomb after bomb that got them to finally start considering the idea of changing course.

If you're talking about globalist politics, then yes, there is no new world to move to.
Not every fandom or subculture has a place to go. Racing games have been dead for years.

But in the case of Warhammer 40,000. You have options. One Page Rules, Bolt Action, Konflict 47, Frostgrave, Stargrave, Gaslands, and more. Into models? Gunpla, Tamiya, and third party kits like Mantic, Northstar, and Wargames Atlantic. Even within Games Workshop you have Killteam, Age of Sigmar, and (until recently) Horus Heresy. Fuck, you could even play old editions. But there's always some excuse. Some are valid (it's not so easy to find old books and a willing player), but most are just bullshit. Even if you struggle through it, the fanbase is still miserable. They obsess over a game they hate. At a certain point, they're too draining to be around.

Going back to earlier in the thread, there's Trench Crusade. A successful kickstarter based on being a 40k killer that, after it's success, immediately got political, started banning people, and tanked it's chances. That's one game out of all the examples I listed, but fuck it, there are no other options. Got to keep playing 40k. The idea that could not do any miniatures wargames isn't considered either.

In terms of video gaming, the issue is the same. AAA games are low quality design-by-comity DEI slop that charge an high price. Then there's an abundance of high quality, reasonably priced indies, but there's always some excuse. Often their idea of an indie game is locked somewhere around 2016, complaining about asset flips and pixel shit even though modern indies are often silly life sims and physics based party games. Others complain that because there are some woke indie games, all indie games are now bad by default. I disagree, but they won't turn that same logic to AAA. They instead keep buying slop and then complaining that it's shit.

That's wrong. BG3 for example lets you be evil or just sadistic for no reason other than your own amusement. First act straight up lets you lead the slaughter of tiefling refugees, and that's just the most extreme evil choice out of several of them. The game has three companions who will go along with it with no reputation hit with them too. And a lot of the woke crowd loves this game. Tyranny is another game where you can be few different flavors of evil and wokies like it. Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous also lets you be evil and even commit horrid acts to become a litch. Pillars of Eternity 2, Rimworld, Armored Core 6, RDR2 also let you be evil or at the very least amoral only eyeing your goals and all else be damned. They all have villains and antagonists with varying levels of complexity. Fallout New Vegas is tame compared to a lot of similar games released these days. You need to look outside of Bethesda, Activision, and EA games.

I don't know AC or PoE2, but Rimworld and RDR2 were also hated/attempted to be cancelled by the press. The former because of traits characters could have, and the latter because you were allowed to do things like punch feminists or throw women in front of trains.

On topic. Midsomer Murders.
Quirky British murder mystery show set in an idealic British village. Kind of goofy, but okay I guess. Modern episodes are typical ESG type slop. Saw an episode recently that tried to paint casino owners/bookies as evil, preying on addicts who can't help but gamble away their life savings.

Awkwafina being hired to narrate numerous nature documentaries for NatGeo also comes to mind here

I want Lizzo talking me about space things

gladiator 2 really has an indian character who is a doctor genius smartgoodguy who literally has a dialogue about his wife from "Londium Britannia" who he has kids with. In a movie about ancient rome lmfao. The indian is the one that saves the day at the end, obviously

There are cheese crappy movies that hollywood has always put out and there there's current year humilliation rituals using franchises everyone loves, this is the type of threshold when slop is unredeemable.

If you willingly put yourself through a Ridley Scott film you get what you fucking deserve

Parker & Stone

I hate these two fuckers

well Biden was just boring

He was anything but, unfortu fucking nately
South Park went Soft on Obama
South Park had an entire episode Apologizing to Al Gore
South Park did not have an episode Dedicated to Sleepy Joe and Kamala.

They were soft on Bush too, because it was 'beating a dead horse'.

But they'll go full antifash on Trump.

But hey, at least with nerd shit, we can make our own IPs, right?

Yes, you can self-publish books and comics, you can self-publish music, if you have more money you can make VGs and Movies, they don't gatekeep this anymore.

Now, it's in terms of reaching people where you get fucked.

If you're aiming for mass reaching, you'll be pozzed.

Your book/comic won't be promoted if it doesn't have the right approach, and won't survive movie deals. Same with music.

For movies and videogames, you DON'T have the money, and the people that have it will make you comply for funding. If you do have the money though, you're gonna lag behind in festivals, you won't get promoted, your movie will face bullying on theatres and algorithms, and maybe they'll be openly hostile towards you on specialized circles. You'll basically go bankrupt.

There is a smaller chance of making it big with smaller scale videogames that sell well, like Stardew Valley, but you can still be destroyed by 'organic' online bullying.

If you wanna go indie, it's the best and worst times for it.

Midsomer Murders

It always had this 'we're better than you' smell coming from London luvvies, but they were subtle about it.

Which progs hate. Though mostly for creating "unrealistic expectations of value/success."
No they don't. Everyone I see who gushes over BG3 is a super annoying prog. It got to the point where I had written the game off as "annoying progressive shit" like Undertale because of all the hype I saw over it.

They were soft on Bush too, because it was 'beating a dead horse'.

But they'll go full antifash on Trump.
This baffles me. Anti-Bush hysteria was RAMPANT during the Bush years. You could not sneeze without someone going, "HA HA BUSH IS THE WORST." So I completely understand South Park not going in that direction, because it's just more of the same.

But anti-Trump hysteria is far, far worse. So why are they indeed beating this dead horse?

So why are they indeed beating this dead horse?

If you look closer you'll realise that they always hated on Hollywood because they never accepted them as one of them. They looked down on them.

Trey is a luvvie who was never liked by the big boys.

In the Team America talk, they admitted all their projects were DIY for that reason.

Now he's got his musical, he's on Broadway and the West End and a few more european prestige theaters translated to german, and french and spanish and whatever. He's getting the glowing reviews from Variety he always wanted.

And he (Trey) is acting accordingly.

The proglodytes hate BG3 in a very similar manner in which they hate Silksong. As Judge Dredd said, they claim BG3 put "unreasonable" expectations on the industry in terms of quality (to say nothing of the writing, subject matter, or mechanical features, which they like), while Silksong's price point compared to its quality and amount of content makes any similarly priced indies made by their leftoid buttbuddies look like a child's attempt. They very much like the games otherwise due to the gay woke shit they can parade around as a trophy, but on those aforementioned issues they have their panties in a bunch. It's confusing and a good reason to not engage with anyone trotting around those talking points.

Network TV and even cable is basically unwatchable. It doesn't matter what genre the show is, you'll be watching and all sudden you'll be jump scared by a fat tranny nigger in a wheelchair who pops out of nowhere to lecture you about white supremacy like a reddit version of Erkel.

Ive mentioned this before in a thread about Troons ruining things but it applies here as well

I used to be really into a Red Alert 3 mod called Paradox that showed a huge ammount of potential and the team had set out to make a massive expanded world for the Red Alert 3 setting. Loved reading about it, loved what they showed and all that. Thought it was badass and it inspired me

It kinda fell apart because of miscommunication and scope creep but years later I set out to archive everything I could about the mod and its lore since the original wiki had been lost.
I got in contact with several of the old team and a bunch who were trying to add it and all the fan shit all into a HOI4 mod. I was so excited, making art assets, refining alt history and all that until the politics came in full force. It janked me hard out of my passion for it when I saw the entire server that was used for organizing this gang up on a guy for saying the word Jap as shorthand for Japanese. It snowballed more and more until I was so burned out completely and did not want to associate with them or the archival project anymore. What pushed me over in the end was the original mod author trooned out and gave them the proverbial torch for the mod's fiction and whatnot and they ran silly with discussing what various factions would do for "queer and trans rights"

It killed all my passion I had for archiving or even enjoying that mod's fiction since those sorts of moral busy bodies have run amok with their fag and political nonsense

I believe we call it "Becoming a fucking Sell Out"
