Creative works you enjoyed until politics happened - "How politics made me hate Welcome to Nightvale and other things"

I used to watch a lot of science documentaries when they were all still on YouTube back in the day. I’ve since got a Plex setup and downloaded my old favourites and a lot of them are unwatchable. I tried watching Cosmos but turned it off because of that DeGrasse Tyson faggot and his tranny worship. I also used to love Through the Wormhole with Morgan Freeman, the first half of the series is great talking about metaphysical topics, the nature of the universe and cutting edge science. The late end of the series is social sciences bullshit about racism and trannies. I want to know more about people studying space travel or NDE’s or quantum physics, not what it’s like to chop your own dick off.
Awkwafina being hired to narrate numerous nature documentaries for NatGeo also comes to mind here. She clearly improvises at certain points, like in this monkey documentary I watched, which adds nothing to the documentary. Just give me AI David Attenborough at this point, like on Codex Pajeet II.

What is with YTPers and generally becoming massive assholes after getting a modicum of attention? They suddenly believe it to be their soapbox.
I answered a question similar to yours, but from someone else, back in last June, but to summarize, the sort of losers who are drawn to trying an internet career out of Youtube Poops are always the mentally ill, low-IQ cases, and other anti-socials. They're going to be assholes, because actual communication skills or self-awareness is obviously beneath them. Likewise, they think the internet is their soapbox because they treat YTP only as a means to an end; that is, chasing and demanding attention and asspats from random people online. It wasn't always like this, but it got more extreme after YouChew and it's satrapies picked up the pieces of the older YTP scene in the early 2010s and onwards. The result is what you see with the likes of Uncle Al.

I really enjoy horror movies, at least conceptually. I like the spooky stuff.
That said, the amount of horror movies nowadays that are "what if [traditionally good thing] bad and evil actually", especially its "what if the church bad actually" is mind numbingly dull, and insulting.
The best example is The VVitch.
Early 1600s puritans are kicked out of a settlement over a religious dispute.
The course of the movie is a witch torturing and killing the family through a variety of hallucinations and manipulations. At the end, the main character, thomasin, signs a deal with the devil, and walks off nude into the forest.
What was the point? Thomasin is now free from her family and can pursue sexual desires.
The witch and the devil, who tortured and killed her family are the good guys, and the family, who did not ask to live in the wilderness, who were tortured and murdered, are the bad guys.
This flavor of subversive nonsense that is pushed by the Marxist types nonstop has infested all horror media, and it aggravates me to no end

Admittedly I haven't seen the VVitch yet so I can't say that you are wrong, but I seriously doubt the man who made The Northman and Nosferatu is influenced by Marxist transgressivism, and will be highly disappointed if my reading of the movie conforms to this take.

Among Us G's summary is basically correct but it's debatable whether the ending is a "good thing" or not. Basically it's a twist where the monster wins and hero decides to join up with them. Does that mean the monster is good or the hero is evil?

I watched the Witch, I never got that from the movie, I think it just straight up shows Satan corrupting the family slowly and winning in the end, and I never got the impression that the witches and the main character were good for it, they gave into temptation and turned into the thing the bible warns about. It's a bleak horror that stays true to the fears of the time and is historically accurate.

There's an interpretation that claims the whole thing, as has been theorized about the Salem witch panic, was really the result of ergot poisoning.

I never liked VVitch, but I have gotten great enjoyment from making people mad by refusing to say the film's name correctly or just by the fact that I didn't enjoy it.

Speaking of Eggers, he is going to be directing the upcoming sequel to Labryinth (the David Bowie one). I like his movies, but unless he manages to also use the same studio for the puppets and can find someone to fill in David Bowies shoes, I am very apprehensive. Especially with the bad trend of horrible sequels/remakes these past few years.
Why does it even need a sequel? I remember reading the sequel manga series when I was younger and that wasn't very good either, more like teen fanfiction than anything else.

Used to be a big fan of podcasts that were all about mocking bad movies. My favorite ones were We Hate Movies and The Flop House. The former had a great group dynamic that felt like a bunch of (somewhat immature) friends just riffing on random crap without taking themselves seriously. The latter felt more grown up, and was elevated by one of the hosts' exceptional wit, eloquence and nerdy pettiness.

Both turned to shit eventually. WHM started replacing their criticism and mockery of uniquely weird/stupid aspects of the given movies with generic "Racism and sexism and homophobia much?" commentary, which was neither funny nor interesting. The Flop House just slowly dissolved its one rule of never including political commentary in the episodes. It started with them scolding people for mocking the Ghostbusters 2016 trailer, which I thought was quite rich coming from them. Some more LOL ORANGE MAN shit kept seeping in, so I dropped out.

No idea if either of them recovered or if they even still exist. I don't listen to movie-related podcasts at all anymore. I just assume they're all shit.

I'm really into the web comics and online horror, so the stuff that I like (and been ruined) have threads on here as well.

First up Homestuck, Acts 1 - 5 were great, Act 6 was bad, Act 7 was a disaster. however, Hussie (the creator) made things even worse by starting Homestuck 2.0 which is being written by a crazy SJW called Kate

SCP Foundation, a horror writing collabortive community got over taken by troons and pc types, it also doesn't help that Admin/Mod Team is full of pedos

Check these out if you really want see how downhill it gone down
I'm late to the party, but I came here to just say one thing.
I fucking despise SCP-3999. It's some schizophrenic, attention-seeking bullshit. Talloran is literally Jeff the Killer for the modern kiddies. I'd even go on to say it represents everything wrong with the SCP nowadays.
>Nonsense that's breaking the established SCP format to be "artsy".
>Tries to be really deep, ends up not meaning anything. No, really, the article does not describe what the scip is, neither does it describe what it does. It's not an object file, it's schizophasia, and not the cool type (aka "written by a normie that wants to be edgy").
>Egocentric. The article itself breaks the 4th wall in the end -- and I'm sorry, how does a numbered SCP file become the author's blog all of a sudden? It's baffling that this "boo-hoo, look at me, me tired of the community, give me sympathy" bullshit is on the main site.
At this point I feel like I have a personal vendetta against it. Why the hell is it so popular? It's trash. But I guess "yay, a non-binary character!!!!"

Everyone who thinks Eggers is a Marxist is a fucking retard.
Everyone who thinks horror is Marxist is a retard. We don't do horror or disaster movies, they give people phobias and fetishes, and for what purpose? Wasting some of their time? If they need time wasted, they're being workshy.

Two new ones. YouTube viral compilation slop, and scale model videos.

YouTube slop is normally something me and my parents can watch. Things like "30 minutes of Instant Karma!" or "Incredible moments caught on CCTV: Best of 2025 so far...". Some are fine. Fail Army, Daily Dose of Internet, Brain Time, Akimbo, Mind Warehouse, etc. But outside of those channels things go downhill fast.

Some are blatent. Like some "Karans taking Ls" video and it's just a compilation of white women not wearing masks in public. Some are more subtle. Zeducation has always been political, and has always been hit and miss. He's very pro trump, but more and more his videos are him complaining about fast food.

Scale model and miniature wargames videos are also getting weird. There have been scandals. Femstodies, Midwinter Minis, and I'm sure others. But these have changed from large spikes that are mainly the focus of drama channels, to occational low level grumbling. Regular channels putting up trigger warnings and long disclaimers about nazi hobbiests in a paint mixing guide. Complaining about how "tariffs cause inflation". Things like that. A particularlly strange example was a guy revising a book he was working on that amounted to doing a find and replace to change "demon" to "feind" because "demon" is offensive to some cultures.

Who is that pathetic dickless bitch?
Making a TTRPG called Nimble. It's a DnD 5e variant that's about to go into print. He does work on the book on livestreams. He was doing editing on the DMG for a demon themed quest line. It's not worth digging through for lolcow material as it's mostly inoffencive and basic bitch game design stuff.

Why does it even need a sequel?
I don't know, but if it's anything like "Love Never Dies", it's going to repaint Jareth as a misunderstood woobie.

And fucking NO.

The point of the original was, "gotta grow up sometime, kid", even if the Fandom has WILDLY misinterpreted this to be "Jareth really loves Sarah uwu".

Jareth was an asshole that tortured a teenage girl by stealing her baby brother and doing a ton of shit things to her to make her get him back. Even kid me saw that and saw how fucky it was.

  1. I liked Pokemon until Palworld did many things better, Nintendo filed legal action, and both western and eastern Pokefags got AIDS. It's also consoomer.
  2. Certain PreCure seasons are OK in a vacuum, but as soon as you see the lolicons, SJWs, and aggressive merchandising, the franchise loses a lot of its charm.
  3. Bicycles are pretty, useful, sustainable, and cheap, but instead of peacefully writing to their senators for bike lanes, r/fuckcars are slashing car owners' tires.
  4. Not a creative work, but veganism went from chill Buddhists and cute grannies to virtue-signaling fat zoophiles and PETA. Ancient grains > vegan Ben and Jerry's.
  5. I liked religious art until I realized Jesus is a Karen, L. Ron Hubbard is a careercow, Allah is a horrorcow, and many churches are frauds.
  6. I liked South Park more when it had characters like Mrs. Crabtree and commented on things like religion before being engulfed by pedobait, Weed-ndy, and troon Garrison.
  7. The sparkledog scene went from emo and rape jokes to a TON of political sperging. I wish it died during the YTMND transition period (or 2013 at the latest).
  8. Clipping replaced a good singer's verse with one by somebody who can't rap worth SHIT because the good singer was merely ACCUSED of rape (I think).
  9. Pretty Blood is a guilty pleasure amateurish Happy Tree Friends clone, but the fandom is plagued with SJWs, and I hear allegations the creator is a pedo or smth.
Honorable mentions: Night in The Woods, Warriors by Erin Hunter, and Minecraft.

I feel like when most people say "I hate when they force politics into stuff" they all mean the same thing but can't articulate it. The issue isn't politics itself, it's that "politics" means the political views of gay pederasts
It's not even that. It's just clunky writing that hamfists the politics in the medium.
Who is that pathetic dickless bitch?
Anyone who says demon is a slur is a demon
