Country Music thread - Sometime a man's gotta drink, shoot his ex-wife's new beau, or just rant about the good ol' days

yeah i was surprised he never got a thread after this, or his random accusing of all the true crimers of being pedos, or all of the drama involving him, his family, his ex employees and stuff.
I'd fucking LOVE a lolcow thread for Upchurch.
I used to listen to him quite a bit like a decade ago, maybe I just grew out of it or maybe he changed but I checked out for awhile. I actually left a comment on same gay ass vlog he did where he was drinking a mountain dew driving somewhere saying I bet he had some booze in that bottle and he got pressed as fuck over it lmao. If you don't want people calling you out for dickhead behavior than stop behaving like a fucking dickhead.
But I checked on him out of curiosity and saw that new "CREEKER" tattoo on his neck and that's pretty much proof to me he's a lost cause junkie.
I'd start an Upchurch thread but 1: I suck at making threads and 2: I don't think anyone cares too much.

yeah i would love a thread for him too, but yeah I don't think he will get one, unless he crashes out even harder over losing all his money to the rodni family or his beefs with his ex employees. Alas, I too have no experience with making threads. Just made an account recently after being a long time lurker.

Im being very drawn to country music as of late
Johnny Cash is pretty good but theres also the hicklib "This land is your land" which I really like and "Fox on the run" which Im not sure is country music but still is very good.
Cash got done dirty by Nashville. It's absolutely ridiculous a legend like this had to do his last albums with a rap and metal producer (Rick Rubin) who could actually see his merit, and did some of his best work in those last albums.

This is what Cash thought about Nashville (from a full page paid ad he took out).

I also greatly admire his personal take on Christianity, which apparently was actually to act like Christ. He didn't preach it, he lived it. He viewed nobody as beneath him and nobody as irredeemable. His prison shows were a perfect example of this, and he actually had to fight to do those.

I was always an admirer of this dude even as a kid, even though my knowledge was basically limited to stuff that got massive radio time like Ring of Fire. Fun fact: basically everyone tried to tell Johnny he couldn't use mariachi horns in a country song. Guess what he had to think about anyone who tried to tell him what kind of music he could play? Yeah, there's that picture still up there. Anyone think he was wrong still?

I have to admit it's this specific song that got me more interested in Cash. I always knew he was good, but then this.

And yes, it was in the opening credits of that Dawn of the Dead remake.
(Fun fact: the best part of the movie is the opening credits.)

I thought Jesus Christ, I knew this guy was good, but what the fuck? He rocks too? That's when I started getting into his back catalog and following the American Recordings releases, as he explored deep themes and personal philosophy.

Here's one of my favorites from that period.

You would assume this is one he actually wrote because it sounds like it, but it's actually one of his famous covers where he totally owns someone else's song. In this case, this is actually a song by Sting. No, really.

A friend said "woop woop" and reminded me of a song I haven't listened to in almost 20 years!
Anyone else remember Cowboy Troy/the music mafia?? They did a lot of stuff with Big n' Rich back in the day

Okay promise to stop this but last post. Leo Kottke.

You're John Goodman avatar makes me think of Righteous Gemstones since I just finished that show, which also reminds of the Season 2 finale where they do Don William's Some Broken Hearts will Never Mends, which makes me want to post some of the classic Don Williams songs

Not exactly underground, but some more mandatory country listening for you all

For the longest time, I thought Townes had actually written this, because a couple Brits having written something Townes would cover was inconceivable to me.

I've been listening to Ringo Starr lately because someone (I think here) pointed out his solo catalog is sinfully underrated and it is. And I came across this.

Buck Owens and Ringo Starr.
