Late, but you are a man of wealth and taste.

I like the version of Waiting Around to Die from Heartworn Highways. Also dig the old black man (Seymour Washington) in the background crying manly tears.
https://youtube.com/watch?v=v-Rq-4spRz4And this cover of Dead Flowers by the Rolling Stones. For the longest time, I had just assumed Townes had actually written this because it's that good. Who would think a British rock star could write such a good country song that a legend like Townes would cover it?
https://youtube.com/watch?v=2VgdtTRZhagAs another cover, Canadian alt-rockers Cowboy Junkies did To Live is to Fly. Margo Timmins has an exquisitely beautiful voice and they completely capture this song on Trinity Sessions album, an album perfectly recorded in a church.

Also has one of the hardest hitting couplets in lyrical history.

"Everything is not enough.
Nothing is too much to bear."

Think about what that means. If you stop with one meaning you're missing it.
https://youtube.com/watch?v=a2dlXi2GgKMAnd the most famous cover of a Townes song. Merle and Willie.

And to lighten the mood a bit, this goth cover of Jolene by Sisters of Mercy, which is better than it has any right to be.

That's a great cover. I also love the cover of Jolene from Strawberry Switchblade.

Strawberry Switchblade - Jolene

Rose McDowall from Strawberry Switchblade would later form a group called Spell. They did a cover of Big Red Balloon by Lee Hazlewood and Nancy Sinatra.

How is country still a thing? All the country albums I see at Walmart are blacks and Gwen Stefani. You corn fed white boys not feeling culturally enriched enough or something?
>he goes to walmart for music

Quit being a nigger. Learn some shit from before you were born, whore.
Deflate my balls Tom Brady style. Posting some old geezer from a hundred years ago doesn't disprove my point that country music is now nothing but nogs and fake popstars wearing cowboy hats. Gwen looking spry for 62 though.

People dont buy music on CD now, especially for less mainstream genres like country, they use streaming services. I havent bought a CD for over 20 years

ironically, the last physical CD I ever bought was a double, Hank III's A Fiendish Threat and Brothers of the 4x4 back in 2013 or 14. Was very surprised to see it in my Wal-Mart.

One country, the other more heavy punk.
Both pretty good albums though

Lotta good stuff here.

Cracker, alt, yes, say what you will but Johnny’s done more to move the needle for me on country guitar than most. Great songs, and just the right flavor for people who swear they “don’t like country music.”

Hank III, Hiland’s little mini solo is a great one to drop on guitar players.

I dunno what you’d call this - Southern Gothic? Still more country than hick hop.

What the fuck no one mentioned David Allen Coe dying in the Country Music Thread? Well Goddam. Let's go, I'm gonna start by posting some lesser known songs that i've been jamming on lately. (Edit: didn't notice the one poster with the one video posted, I was incorrect, but Coe still needs more love)

Also if anyone knows a source to download all his albums I'd be very grateful, can't find them on most major torrent sites I know (i'm a bit out of the loop at this point been some years since i did some serious music downloading), so at this point I'm worried I'm gonna have to download each individual youtube video and convert them to mp3s.
