Sony Terminate Disney Spider-Man Deal

Anyway, before I went to Universal three years ago, I was asking people what they thought of the park. I got some pretty "meh" responses. Then, when I was there, I was completely blown away. I had an absolute blast.

I love me some DisneyParks, but Universal is every bit as good (and even better in many aspects). This is the park where you take your pre-teens and teenagers to, since it has more thrill rides than Disney. It's definitely more affordable too.

With Sony's deal with Disney ending now, I wonder if that also applies to the theme parks (please educate me if you know)? If so, that is a complete bummer, because Spidey is one of the best characters to meet.

Ok, good to know. I have met Spider-Man in Universal Studios Florida, Disney California Adventure, and on a Disney "Marvel Day At Sea" Cruise.

If Spidey could no longer be at any of the Disney Parks/attractions, then let's just say I'm glad I did the Marvel Day At Sea cruise when I did. I got to meet all of the GOOD Marvel heroes and was able to grab some fun merch without seeing Captain Marvel's "Kree Space Nazi" logo forced on everything. Haha.
 
The amount of people defending Disney blows my fucking mind. Motherfuckers, Disney is the biggest entertainment company on the planet and probably owns half of the movies ever made. What kind of faggot are you?

Sony Studios almost got bankrupted by fucking GHOSTBUSTERS. Its barely making money as is, and that's solely because of Spiderman. But no, Disney is totally in the right here to cut even deeper into those profits because it wants the rights back completely. They're totally not known for petty, vindictive decisions like completely fucking up Old Star Wars so utterly to only choice would be to make new shit was so George Lucas wouldn't get his .50 cents on a Luke Skywalker toy. Or by completely shuttering the Fantastic Four comic and toys to fuck over Fox. Or never make another new mutant so Fox couldn't ever add it into their movie line-up. I can't even imagine the shit they were threatening Netflix with if they didn't shutter their Marvel shows.

The only reason you should support Disney in anything is because you are getting money from them. Otherwise you remain neutral or shit on them.

yeah iirc as long as a character has an existing presence at Uni Orlando they can't be in the Disney _parks_ on the East Coast, but Disney's been pushing it seeing if they can get away with characters on a monorail cruising through a park, and putting them in the non-park areas like shopping centers and hotels is probably still on the table.

Not sure if they forced Netflix to cancel the shows, but Netflix was certainly forced to put their foot down. The Marvel shows were the start of a partnership that Netflix pursued for years, culminating in them getting first run streaming rights for Disney’s new releases. It was an enormous triumph for Netflix. But not even a year later, Disney announces plans for their own service with the intent of not only taking back the first run releases they had negotiated with Netflix, but now they were going to be a direct competitor. Would you want to continue working with a company under those conditions. I don’t know how the financing for the Marvel shows broke down, but various reports said Netflix was beating the brunt of it, putting in a lot of money for something they don’t own and have taken away from them in a few years. But again, the Marvel fans were out in force talking about how stupid Netflix was for not moving forward.
 
I don't see why anybody is picking a "side" at all.

Some idiots are saying "YAY! Spider-Man is leaving the increasingly woke MCU! Sony saved Spidey!" as if Sony never made that godawful 2016 Ghostbusters movie ... Or that recent MenPersons In Black movie.

I just want a good Spider-Man movie, regardless of who "owns" him right now. And it would be nice to see a proper conclusion to ONE of the Spider-Man film series for once.
 
I can understand being happy to see a focus on Spidey crying about Uncle Ben dying again instead of crying about Uncle Tony dying, but it would be beyond charitable to characterize Sony Film's efforts towards using the Spider-Man IP as anything beyond "mixed results" at this point.
And it's still hilarious to see people cry antitrust over capeshit instead of something basic like your online tubes.

The Universal parks are very underrated and in some ways more fun than Disney World.

As melodramatic as they might be, I really do love the first two Raimi films. I think I might be in the minority in thinking that the two MCU Spider-man movies are a lot of fun, but nothing great. There’s a lot there to enjoy, but it does have an assembly line feel to it. Certainly better than any live action Spider-man movie since Spider-man 2, but far from the heights of the best MCU films or The Dark Knight. A lot of fanboys are talking as if we are going to miss out on countless masterpieces because Disney isn’t involved.
 
Honestly this could've been resolved if Spiderman became a character in the public domain but Disney is the cause of all the issues with copyright that we see today

The first two Sam Raimi Spider-Man movies are still the gold standard of not just Spider-Man movies, but comic book movies in general. In my opinion, of course.

I love those movies to pieces.

There is a theory out there that MCU spiderman is also suffering of something similar to 25% different trek. Which is why they had to use Michel Jones instead of Mary Jane or why MCU's peter is so closely linked to Iron man.


Btw I would also add Spider-verse as proof Sony can, in fact, do a better Spider-man movie than marvel.

I don't think it's good to credit Spiderverse to Sony since Sony had little faith in the movie due to barely marketing it. When Sony gets invested and tries to make a Spider-Man movie with faith in it you get crap like the Amazing Spider Man films and Venom.
