Sony Terminate Disney Spider-Man Deal

And 30% is still fucking insane. Why is Disney not okay with merchandising and having Spidey be a selling point in their crossover flicks? It's because they're absolutely trying to work their way up to Sony having to sell the rights back. Sony is fucked if they do, fucked if they don't at this point due to Disney's monopoly.

Disney can argue being MCU connected ads 200 Million to every Spiderman film. And their production team shaved 50-100 Million off in production costs. So they made Sony an additional 300 Million. In addition they are willing to pony up 75 Mil PER Spiderman film in production costs. So thats 475 Million in plus for Sony. Sony can give them more ROI ((especially since they are willing to 50/50 production costs)).

Further they are willing to help produce all their extended Spider-Verse films. Which could lower those production costs 50-100Mil

If I was Sony I’d try to leverage this to make more exclusive deals for their gaming platform.

No they absolutely cannot, Venom did incredibly well by itself and Spider-Verse had both shit marketing and nothing to do with the MCU. 200 Million JUST because it's connected to the MCU? It's Spider-Man. The only thing you can argue that Disney has leverage over is that Sony can't exactly finish the New Avengers storyline they set up and Marvel's creative team is really good.

Sony tried to create Brand Confusion on Venom (Point 1) and Tom Hardy has a charisma that brings in certain fans (point 2)

and they could have just had dumb luck on Venom working (point 3). Do you want to gamble with these three counter points and risk upwards of 500mil on the low end

It's more :optimistic: to think that Sony just got lucky and has to rely on MCU connections than it is to say that Sony absolutely does have the ability to excite people for Spider-Man on its own when they're not fucking up.

This is Sony under Tom Rothman who screwed up comic book movies at Fox and was a known micromanager. There is no sure bet he can pull off what Feige did. Pascal might maybe only because she screwed up everything on this brand before so she has to have learned something

The fact that normalfags care more about which billion dollar company is producing what capeshit than any of the uncountable issues in the world makes me want to suck start a shotgun.

I'm sure it's preferable to a crucifixion.

It's been this way for a while. I remember 8 years ago that Breivik's 77-kill murderspree and Amy Winehouse's death happened within a day of each other. Which did the normalfags cry and moan about? The rich, drug-addicted loser who OD'd after singing a song about how proud she was to be a drug-addicted loser.

Sony will come crawling back. At some point someone in a boardroom meeting is going to point out the obvious: "we came either earn millions over the next X number of years, or billions".

At the end of the day it's just business.

Yes I didn't mean to come off as so absolute. I know the Japanese do some really dumb shit out of pride or tradition. There's an outside chance Sony will give up hundreds of millions in potential profits.

Well considering their track record, they have been bear for like 20 years. The late 90's was their fucking golden years and they have never reached it since. Michael Jackson's departure from their music division and the DotCom bubble did a huge number on them. It's a rollercoaster right now and they're stagnating hard. One more bubble burst and they are fucking done.
