People really need to start learning what the fuck tax write offs are. They don't make something free. You don't just say "Well this was free now, no reason not to buy it!". It lowers the cost, on average, by 20%, if it fits into your overall tax threshold to begin with. If it doesn't, you can't even claim it as a write off anyway.

And yes, a business the size of LTT was surely hitting their tax write off threshold already. And if they weren't, then wasteful spending on cameras just meant they couldn't use it for something else.

i never implied it made it "free", i said it "might not be as bad as it seems". those exact words are literally quoted in your post (my favorite part of your reply is how polite you were)

and idk what canada's laws are, it was just a hot take i was pressured into posting

Laundering money via aircraft is quite possibly the worst way to do it, with how highly regulated and attended to they are. It's going to have a miserable return rate, and be difficult to wash out to the relevant people.

But you're right that its a retarded idea - I still stand by it based on the name. I really do think he's just making a really stupid fucking decision.
I had a tax professor who used to say, “if you want to attract unwanted attention from the IRS, buy a plane.”

to be fair, we had like 3 cows on here alone that killed or raped people in canada and bragged about it and the canadian police didn't do shit.
They let indigenous women go missing so often and don't do shit about it that it became classified as a genocide.

Half of the country is pajeets by number, i wonder how many scams or tax evasions don't get investigated because it was either a ethnic officer filing it away when he sees he will target one of his tribe, or just unable to see the fraud because they are low IQ and don't speak english.

https://youtube.com/watch?v=OT_iyvOy0Tkafter switching presidents and a year late, lmgay has produced these standard spec meeting cables
While I personally have no use for these cables, they do actually sound useful for bandwidth and power hungry USB devices. But I'm sure there will be some LTT viewers that are retarded enough to replace all their existing USB cables with these. I'm curious to know if there's existing USB brands that meet the promised specs the way these LTT cables do.

Also, this made me laugh out loud:

Linus tech tips is an advertisement channel. Here is one of the most obscene recent examples;
why anyone would watch this trash is beyond me.

one of these products is supposedly literally chink spyware and they told a bunch of retards to buy it for christmas lol.
pure dogshit does tech jesus have to die for our sins?
I like it how they mention some of the issues with the NanoKVM, but leave it to the end of the video when it's much more likely the viewer has closed the video and won't receive this information.

I like how their only justification for that chink remote control is that you're fucking fat and lazy to go up to the attic or server room to physically reset or turn on the computer you want to run anyway.
That chink board that does whatever remote control feature you have in your fucking motherboard bios has a fucking hidden microphone.

Surprised nobody mentioned that GameLinked posted today, out of nowhere after like a years absence.

And yes, he walked in frame with a carton of some kind of soy milk to open the video. Which I suppose is in character for the company.

As usual, they're late to the party with most of the news, but that's a given these days with a scheduled format. Still, its amusing to me that despite disappearing for so long, its almost immediately performing as well as their other videos. Not particularly great for LTT's numbers as a whole, but its somewhat impressive and indicative of how weak the channel performance is, if such a hiatus doesn't do squat to them.
I said back when he closed it and some others that it's insane to shut them off for not making ENOUGH money, just spend less money on them lol. They were all making hundreds of thousands of views at their peak weren't they? That's enough to sustain 1 person easily, if not more.

Especially when the production time cost is easily under eight working hours. Probably takes an hour of script writing to collate the articles for editing later, slap in a few jokes. Another hour of filming (less, but most places will cost estimate in man hour blocks) and at most two hours of editing. Its just a greenscreen, some premade background and moving some screenshots around. Another hour at most to throw together some thumbnails and names per their style guide, and you are done.

Why the fuck does he need a fucking trijet? and a 26 year old one, is he flying weekly flights to france or spain with 12 people?

Look at the fucking operational cost, 3-4 years and he will spend more cash paying for gas and maintenance that the entire purchasing price of this plane.
:story:

He's a gigantic moron, why the fuck not lease one or pay for a charter service? it's far cheaper, you only see people who actually need to fly to several dozen countries a year like musicians or sport stars actually owning one, everyone else just charters one.
TY for making this post and saving me from doing it.
I have a friend who does private jet piloting, those prices are on the low side.

Having worked for companies with an execjet, all it takes is one airport/airline being fucked and anyone above VP rank getting their travel plans curbstomped due to the cascading failures from a major airline canceling flights and the company will find the budget for their own jet.

If your jet gets used, Charters get expensive after a while, especially if you are traveling to places for extended periods and burning cash to have the plane sit on the tarmac. There is a break-even point that is higher-than-normies-but-not-outlandish of I want to say 20-some trips.

His words of wisdom are "If you're going to get a private jet and aren't a certified pilot, don't get a jet. It'll never work out, your jet is almost guaranteed to be in the shop when you need it. Instead Get 3 and start your own airline/charter service for the write off."

Anyway I want to congratulate Linus on his retarded purchase of a money furnance and can't wait for his brand to collapse and the jet to help make him homeless a little bit faster.

"The other wife" is linus spoonerism blaming his wife. Yvonne said no raise for jake! >: |
(She probably didn't want him in her fucking house either)
huh, i assumed the Bull stuff was them "joking" about a real situation
So just for perspective, the billion dollar gaming industry leader has less employees than the Canadian small business tech company with a youtube channel.
steam isn't a scam to help the owner's wife get as many immigrants as possible into the country. You might as well be saying "hey somalians, here's how to actually run a daycare!" it doesn't matter, its not what they're actually trying to accomplish as a business, for all we know the private plane is just going to be used to smuggle GPUs into china
I still stand by the belief that LTT house fuckery would work if they were actually doing cool or weird shit. Not just "I put some speakers in the roof" or "Smartlights" I wanted them to take the old workshop and their ex engineer, and build a smart home system that would via robotics and jank ass sliding mechanisms, preheat the oven and put a frozen pizza into it so that it'd be done 15 minutes after you normally get home, fully hands free, just stock the pizza freezer magazine with unwrapped pizzas.

Is it absolutely dumb and impractical? Hell yea. Is it peak smart home? Also hell yea.

Instead, they ignored all the things they had the means to do, and did the most boring, bargain basement tech they could. LTT tried to embrace being the dumb fun tech space, but forgot how to do dumb fun.
there are very few wives that would tolerate something like this

There is no reason to buy the LTT cables, places like cable matters sell cables with the exact same spec for 10 bucks, making them cheaper than LTTs 30 leaf dollar ones, and they actually have USB-IF cert, rather than the "trust me bro" cert that the LTT ones apparently have.

https://youtube.com/watch?v=OT_iyvOy0Tkafter switching presidents and a year late, lmgay has produced these standard spec meeting cables

looking at prices, it seems ok? on the promise that this cable mogs other cables, but i don't know if there are other spec meeting cables to properly compare to, let alone an authority that even cares about spec cable autism

Notable variations/prices for USB A to USB C :
  • USB A to USB C 10gbps 50cm, (70cm to 1m is unavailable, would be priced the same), priced at 20 cad / ~15 usd
  • USB A to USB C 10gbps 1.5m (2m is unavailable, would be priced the same) priced at 25 cad / ~19 usd
  • USB A to USB C 10gbps 3m (all unavailable) priced at 30 cad / ~23 usd
  • USB A to USB C 480mbps 4.5m priced at 20 cad / ~15 usd
  • USB A to USB C 480mbps 5m priced at 25 cad / ~19 usd (why am i being jewed for that extra 50cm???)
Notable variations/prices for USB C:
  • USB C 40gbps 40cm, (all other sizes up to 1m is unavailable, would be priced the same), priced at 30 cad / ~23 usd
  • USB C 20gbps 2.5m, (all sizes are unavailable), priced at 30 cad / ~23 usd
  • USB C 480mbps 5m, priced at 30 cad / ~23 usd (similar to the previous a to c cable, why am i being jewed for the extra 50cm again?)
  • USB C 480mbps 4.5m, priced at 25 cad / ~19 usd

I've only had one application ever that required super high quality cables, and that's a KVM, specifically the Level1Tech KVM. Wendel has a fully guide on DisplayPort cables, and a $15k cable tester. Unlike Linus, he does a full autistic breakdown of everything involved with cable testing, eye-patterns, etc. and has several recommended brands of DisplayPort cables:

Wendover did a pretty good video years back about the economics of private jets. He mentions how it might make sense economically if you had a retail regional director that needed to visit several stores or distribution centers in several states back-to-back.

Worth the price? Have gone thru a shit ton of the crappy ones, I miss the days of high quality KVMs.
Yes. I have two of them; one of the older ones is in my homelab rack. I just switched out to a 5120 x 2160 on the other on and it can handle 165Hz refresh on that one without issues .. well on Linux/Win10 no issues. MacOS sometimes required switch to/from it 2~3 times. There might be a firmware update that fixes it, but I haven't really checked since I rarely use the mac anyway. I have a buddy who has the KM switch and he's really happy with it too.

Unlike Linus that just finds the finest Chinkshit and slaps his logo on it, Wendel's team has worked on tweaking the firmware themselves for this thing. It isn't just some rebranded StarTech device (might use the same shell and parts as one; they look similar and everyone uses the same manufactures over there, but it can handle significantly higher refresh rates than any of the enterprise stuff). I can't find it now, but there is a video of a tour inside Wendel's office (I think it was Steve/GamersNexus but not sure) where they show the girl who services the KVMs. Yes, they handle themsleves warranties at their studio, taking them apart, probing and fixing them if they can.

I get that they have the same specs, but do they deliver them as promised? Would be interesting to see them tested by Level1Techs using their fancy cable tester that @HootersMcBoobies mentioned.

You would only really have to test the LTT cables, anything that has USB-IF certification has been tested successfully and meets the required USB spec, which includes things like compatibility and durability, not just that the cable is meeting the expected speed and charging power advertised.

Update on the LMG plane, there was this article published that talks about it:

The key points are:
  • Influence Air is a subsidiary of LMG and only the site is registered on Luke's name
  • There's was a few flights from CA to CES and NY(Jimmy Fallon show)
  • It's a heavy private jet, which is one of the most luxurious types of jets
  • It costed around 5-6Mi according to the listing

https://grndcntrl.net/articles/influence-air-linus-tech-tips-private-jet-acquisition [A]
LMG has what, >100 employees? That's a solid yearly $6m in salary and related costs alone. $6m for an asset is nothing in comparison.

It is when that asset has very high carrying costs. An experienced airline pilot earns over $500k so a private pilot is probably in the same range. You need two of them for a plane this size, so that's $1 million a year just in pilot wages. Don't forget all the fuel and very expensive maintenance the plane will need as well as the hangar and landing fees.. He can't afford to fly it and it'll spend most of its time sitting in a hangar until he sells it at a loss, which will probably be immediately after he gets the bill for the annual maintenance required to keep it airworthy.

Linus' company is way too small to afford a private jet. Most owners of companies the size of LMG fly coach, possibly upgrading to first/business with points from the corporate credit card. They don't charter jets, let alone own one outright.

Depends on how much they're flying. I fly business exclusively because the extra ~3k for a long distance flight is worth the two days you're saving. You can pretty much just arrive the same day before an important meeting/presentation/whatever from the other side of the world vs. having to plan in an extra day to unfuck yourself.

Aircraft pilot in EU is like ~100k/year and Canada is probably pretty cheap, so likely around that number. Plus fuel, maintenance, insurance, etc. you're gonna look at 500k a year I guess? Plus about a mil/year in financing costs if it costs 6mil and you're financing for 5. It's a good amount of their budget but if they're flying a lot it's not outlandish.

That's a moot point when Linus, at best, travels to sparse conventions and partner events that can be easily planned around. The supermajority of their business takes place in their strip lot, across the two buildings within a ten minute walk of each other. Sponsor Product gets mailed to them, and partners work with his sponsor team to set up things, he's not flying out to Asus headquarters to shake executive hands. Even with their overseas manufacturing, they spoke at length about how they were waiting for new samples to be mailed out consistently for changes they made, so they're not regularly flying out to supervise production and iterate product lines in person.

Its also not like he is doing this to prepare for more travel - there's not much to travel to. There's not a sudden rising consumer tech convention scene, its been dead end CES for a decade and that's not changing anytime soon. If he's planning to expand his business into something that does require more travel, then he's being absolutely retarded to buy a jet first and then see if the business works at all later. I'm still sticking with the only thing making marginal sense being "trying to sell flights himself".

Yeah, it's very likely not a reasonable business decision for his use case. I'm just saying it's not impossible for it to be reasonable for smaller companies.
