Fromsoftware owning the IP means jack shit if Fromsoftware are still owned by industry conglomerates. I don't know why people jack off to the sound of it so much as if they'll have full creative freedom. And if they do have creative freedom, they have decided to waste time on 2 multiplayer centric games, their weakest links and nichest playerbase instead of embracing the tradition of an armored core sequel game.

Other companies still have a massive stake in the IP. From apparently hold the rights to Sekiro as well yet have done jack shit with it beyond asset and animation reuse. As a gaming studio they're getting very grating. Beyond cutting the coolest silver knight armor set from Dark Souls III's dlc before release, I've had enough with their antics and will promptly tune out until something worth talking about comes up.

Just release a fucking lore bible book straight from Michael Zheki's recollections and the staff's ideas, and a half life style behind the scenes documentary to coincide with it. That's all you can do for Dark Souls, respectfully anyways. Oh wait Bandai Namco isn't exactly an unorthodox gamer centric company like Valve. More slop incoming.
There'll never be a lore bible. Miyazaki himself said that he likes to keep lore open for fan interpretation and his own interpretation. As for the behind the scenes stuff, the closest you have are the Design Works books (which are pretty neat to be fair) and a bunch of scattered interviews, including ones that were Japan only radio stuff that doesn't exist any more.

Oh, yeah. Fair enough. They did license out those weird manga and a TRPG for Elden Ring. I can't remember if that was when Bandai was still involved, but I get the feeling Kadokawa (on of the shareholders for Fromsoft if I remember correctly) pushed for that. You're correct, then. Tencent was getting involved in their shares too, weren't they? Maybe I should stop joking about gacha collabs before I jinx it and you see whales rolling for Ranni in GFL.

On the contrary; there is more than enough information the developers have kept tight about to fill one or two volumes regarding the whole trilogy. Maybe even just DS1 itself. It would be a proper translation of the Japanese descriptions, and maybe have developer commentary + intent. Ideas.

Miyazaki likes interpretations but there is a particular canon in the trilogy if you read the Japanese scripts. All I want to know more about are concepts they did not delve further into but seemingly know about and reference often and in occultish ways. Lokeylore kins of does it, but he is a retarded weeaboo faggot snob.
It's a matter of Miyazaki being an obnoxious nostalgifag and childhood experience oriented "writer" rather than anything else.

Instead of a faggy comic book, I'd buy a lore bible. Have a fag like Vaatividya shill it, and its literally free money. It would be the biggest thing they can do for the series and it would kill off a lot of the festering drivel tier of speculations that have occured in the last 14 years. There will be a Lore Bible so long as these motherfuckers are a studio and the demand gets higher among their "#1 fans" like Vaati.

Anyways one of the only times I've seen fan requests/petitions actually work for Fromsoftware is when fans asked for the missing red plume on Ornstein's armor in ds3 to be restored. It was promptly done in a patch. You can count Elden Ring's multiplayer community as well in terms of feedback they take. Now if only those autists asked for the collar piece on the FAP armor in ds3 to be fixed as well.

The fact that there's so much content and speculation based on filling in the deliberate holes left by Miyazaki means they will never release one. Most of the appeal is not knowing and releasing hundreds of lore videos based on speculation only adds to the mystique of the game. It's kind of like how otaku creators deliberately add certain archetypes to their works because they know fanboys will obsess over them and create content based on them, thus giving the brand more depth than what it has, basically making the fans create the content for you.

Why would he mess with that? We're talking about a guy who had one of the biggest fantasy novelists in the world right now work on his project, and he still managed to twist his work into yet another derivative Souls entry. It's either that or he has more esoteric themes in his works that he does not want to reveal too much of, since it will probably turn people off rather than lure them in, so it's best to keep it a mystery.

Not when you're dollar store dark fantasy with things that you have subsequently revealed in sequels like Velka and when your source book is an old fantasy novel by an underrated author. This is nowhere near Lynch or some open-ended stories.

Do you ever think Souls will ever go back to being slow-paced and methodical? You know, the way I liked it. The way that got me to play the game in the first place.
No, your best hope is for some smaller studio to pick up that mantle but, given that all the recent successful "soul-likes" weren't in that style, that's also unlikely.

That's very unfortunate. I've been let out to dry for what seems like years now.
It is not too uncommon for one to experience a drought in a particular genre/sub-genre. It's been a decade since the last good cinematic FPS campaign à la Call of Duty (with the lineage being back traced to the 1999 Medal of Honor) or the more "sandboxy" Halo series. For arcade plane games there was over a decade drought of good ones after Ace Combat 5. Same goes for mech games, skateboarding games, etc. Again, your best hope is for some indie/AA title to come out and revitalize interest in it (or a remake, I guess. Though, none of us want another sloppa hack job by Bluepoint).

Oh, the remake wasn't THAT bad. It got me to get the original for myself, after all.

They'll never truly dive into Tolkien levels worldbuilding for DeS, DaS or Bloodborne. I think on one hand this is fine because it leaves some mystery to the setting, but at the same time certain things would benefit from more exposure or writeups. Theres no harm in describing the other nations like Astora or Zena in better detail than what armor and weapons imply. I don't see any issue with describing other named or unknown gods or Great Ones in the case of Bloodborne. Even elaborating on the cultures of the peoples you've introduced would be nice. You're not explaining their origins or motivations or something esoteric like the afterlife.

Don't want a lore book. They would make it as anti-Gwyn as possible, and repeat the lore-breaking lies that the sequels created.

Let's be honest. Bandai Namco has always wanted a cash grab from them. I am surprised it took them this long, but if I was Fromsoft and had Bandai up my ass. I would rather do something like Nightreign rather than another long haul project like Elden Ring 2 which is probably still on the table. Simply throw out cash grabs to keep Tencent happy until they take over completely.

I wish From had the opportunity to go independent but lord knows the corporate beast would swallow them up either way like so many other dev companies in the past or present.

I plan on playing Nightreign. Not day one of course. I want to see if Fromsoft can actually pull it off with minimal bugs. I am a sword and shield guy so I am looking to main that big eagle fuck from the footage.

The Guardian. I admit that I'm genuinely curious on the game as well; it's a lot different from what FromSoft usually makes, so if they manage to make Nightreign genuinely interesting I'll be impressed. At the very least it's good for them to experiment sometimes.

Haven't played DaS2 in a hot minute, but despite how mediocre a lot of it was, the good parts truly stick out over time. Like if some studio harnessed all the best parts of that game and executed them properly, it would be an instant classic IMO, like Dark Souls in 2011 all over again.

DaS2 had a troubled development period, as I'm sure everybody knows the previous build of the game had to be scrapped and built from the ground up. Not to mention the resources were also split between it and Bloodborne. I think in all honesty a "good" or fully realized DaS2 is Elden Ring because it was also going to have a mount for the player to traverse the world in. I do wish certain ideas from it were implemented into the later games. Makes no fucking sense to not have Bonfire Ascetics in 3 or an equivalent for ER.
