Both are that deadly cocktail of narcissim & crippling insecurity
There's actually a term for this. Some mental health professionals divide narcissists into two categories: vulnerable and invulnerable. Invulnerable narcissists are sometimes classed as a form of sociopath, because they absolutely do not give a shit what other people think of them, and will do anything to advance their goals and gain the high standing they feel is their birthright. They ignore criticism and are unaffected by appeals to their better nature (they don't have one). Vulnerable narcissists are a whole different animal, and both Dan and Vinny are of this type. They have an insatiable need for praise and adulation and feel this is their right. If those things are not forthcoming, they become very angry and lash out at those they feel are not giving them their due. They cannot handle any sort of criticism even if it's justified, and no matter how gently it is delivered. Anyone who does not offer 100% unconditional praise is the enemy and will be treated accordingly. Margo (Venus Angelic's mom) is this sort. Jon Sweet (Iconoclast) is probably of this type as well. Vox Day and Milo from Breitbart are the invulnerable types, they don't care what other people think of them and any negative views of them are dismissed as the ramblings of lesser people. I just put those two there for comparison.

EDIT: One thing I forgot to add about vulnerable narcs: They DO have empathy and remorse. They can and do feel bad about hurting people to get attention, but such traits are often suppressed by their ego. Not all of them do, but it is possible to teach them to consider other people's feeling when contemplating a course of action. I am friends with someone like this, and she said learning how to do this was more painful that when she had a kidney stone, so that should tell you the level of difficulty involved. But it is within the realm of possibility.

I really don't care to respond on here anymore but what you said was so ridiculous i had to say something. It's ridiculous because chances are that you don't know me at all. You saw a few videos bad or whatever etc and you have made this assesment. You have a right to think what you want to think but it does make me laugh. For your info, i have loved entertaining ppl since i was a little shy and quiet boy. I loved making relatives laugh at parties through impressions etc then i started doing stoop shows for kids in the area. It was not for fame but at that young age for the joy of making others laugh. As i got older ppl kept on saying i should do stand up comedy and one day my dad brought me to pips comedy club and i was surprised when put on stage. Even with no prepared material, i embraced it and i did really well and it was one of the best experiences of my life. I then became Vinny A O and quickly i rose from open mics to doing shows 5 times a night at HA comedy club. Even though i wanted to be an actor and perform on a higher level i enjoyed every minute of performing in the clubs. I loved simply being an entertainer. After meeting a celebrity while performing and who loved my act at the club and wanted to see my act again and who worked with comics on tv, a few days later my dad was assaulted and left for dead. He didn't die but was hospitalized for 4 months and had brain damage. I then lost my career and mind at the time and met the wrong ppl who took advantage of my weak state. By the time i got out of that, my mond was damaged as well and i could barely put together a sentence. It was a big blow to lose that connection coming close to potentially going to the next level but most of all it was a bloe that i wasn't performing and nightly living my dream. My emotional and mental state was too messed up. For a year after i was in very bad shape but then i truly encountered Gods love and although i can't prove that encounter with anyone else, Gof proved his love and reality to me. At this low point in my life, i received a vision that i can still perform and that God will build me back up and during this time make me whole again(which i admit is taking a while but i will get there) and the message was and is to express that we need to be child like and go beyond our limited thinking or what we perceive to be normal to experience a supernatural love beyond our logic. So, i started to create songs and dances that were ridiculous but were fun and pure. Then i started street performing a lot and right away ppl started to love the songs and it brought them joy. Most of all, they received the message. Not only did this make me happy because after the tragedy i didn't think i would petform again, but because the fruitfulness proved the vision to be true in my heart. After going to some college and studying radip and acting, i went to a play and saw the suesical and the main character inspired me because he the portrayal was very animated wacky and pure. I then bought the cat in the hat hat after the show. I then moved back to nyc and had to make money because my dad who i was living with was still not well. So, with the hat from the play i created with a guitar "the singing cat in the hat" and tried in times square. It wasn't working do i dropped the guitar and made it "the hat in the cat" and it was making ppl laugh purely and in a child like and bizarre way and it was putting money in my poclet to eat. Day after day i would make crowds and crowds of ppl laugh. Bring the message and make money. Each day i would add more to the act. Eventually. I gabe the character a name "the jolly cat" and started adding more bizarre but simple and pure songs and dances and through experimentation i learned what ppl love and don't. Eventually i started to make my comeback tl the comedy stage. Since what i do is so different than what i did before and traditional comedy, it has taken a few years to make that adaption but i am getting there hence doing shows at the stand and fat baby show. In fact one coming up in a few weeks. Throughout nyc many ppl love the jolly cat and everywhere i go ppl want jolly to bring them joy. Also, there are ppl who don't get my work or message or perhaps they don't want to get "not needing to get it" and dismiss everything about it from the start. Nonetheless, and as tough as this mission is, i continue to believe the vision placed in my heart. And seeing the extreme joy it brings and the way ppl receive the message gives me the hope to keep on going despite all the hate( eben though for a while i let it get the best of me and would snap which is contrary to who God made me to be or my message) i am currently working on my self so i can have the love and patience to fulfill this mission. I know who i am and i simply love God and ppl. Although i am not petfect by any means, i do love to entertain and desire to make a positive impact to those young and old. May God bless you in his love and grace. Thank you for taking the time to read this message.

Care to elaborate on this a little, Vinny? You always gloss over the specifics of this and the people involved.

He has good reason to. Only one group in brooklyn routinely takes advantage of confused and vulnerable young men (besides the church, obviously). He's doing the smart thing in avoiding the subject.

Like above, he tends to point the finger at personal tragedy for the reason he's still feeling messed up today, but I'm inclined to shift the blame to religion for telling him to stop getting help when he needed it.

That makes sense. I assumed since that one group put his father in the hospital that Fredo would have cut all ties.
Actually they are two different groups. The first, i found the guy who put the hit on my dad and instead of stabbing him with a screwdriver which was what i wanted to do, i tackled him to the ground and the cops came and put him away so i guess that was a citizens arrest. Later, the second group of ppl who i sadly got involved with convinced me to drop the charges(actually i took a lil beating for it) and then nobody in my family wanted to press charges out of fear of this group so the guy and his peeps walked. Later, i was able to escape the second group but they would call me daily to try to get me to meet with them. In one desperate attempt, they offered to send me tl russia to bring home a russian bride.

i have a few questions for you, vinny.

first off, why do you think taking medicine is wrong? the doctor obviously knows you have problems and medication can help. there are lots of christians on medication, there isn't anything evil about it if you take it as prescribed.

second of all, why won't you accept criticism? you do realize that people that give you criticism are most likely not trying to hurt you. if you want to be more successful, listening to what people say is the only way to improve your act, because no act is perfect. no, not even yours.

this last question is a bit more personal. what kind of rehab did you go to, specifically? was it christianity related, and is that where you converted to christianity?

I can give a more detailed answer later but for now for times sake here is the short. Doctors have been confused about what i am for a while and recently a "top doctor" diagnosed me with ptsd when for years other docs thought it was hypo mania etc and there have been docs who said i am fine but just need emotional healing from a dramatic upbringing. End of the day, only God really knows and i know myself best and why i had the issues i had and what i need to do to overcome. If medicine is needed i will take it, however if medicine is not the true solution to get to the root cause, i will fond up how to get to the core of the matter.
I do accept criticism everyday. In fact, it's how i've grown and continue to grow as an artist. It wouldn't be humble to reject what ppl say, especially if it can help what i am doing to be better. For example, Vinny i like jolly but have you thought about adding a story line or making a production or vin have you thought about performing at this venue instead of here or how about this costum made outfit verses that etc but i will not accept "criticism" that is contrary to who i know i am and the vision in my heart. I know the jolly cat brings a lot of joy and laughter, so if someone says ur act sucks give it up and do something else, i must reject it because i know how fruitful my character truly is.
And no i was not part of a program. It was a divine encounter i had with God because my heart was finally open to him due to losing all the temporary distractions the world throws our way. It was and is a personal and intimate relationship and what i believe in or do is from revelation on high..although i can't prove Christ to others(i can show his love through making ppl smile and laugh and by sharing the message to be open as a child) God has proven Christ to me. I seeked the truth in a world of false doctrines and lies and the truth maker revealed the one and absolute truth in Jesus The Christ.
