Its looking like the Druze have decided Israel is a preferable ruler. Remains to be seen just how "large" a buffer the IDF intends to establish in southern Syria, but if the war map is to be believed they are pushing pretty deep. The move to seize Mount Hermon and the surrounding countryside pretty much aligns with the populations of Druze in that area.
Its looking like Israel at a minimum intends to Annex the Hermon range of the Anti-Lebanon mountains. I don't see Israel pulling out of this area any time soon. Most of the people in that area are related to other Druze tribals in Golan who have been pretty loyal citizens over the past couple of Generations. This may be a state building exercise in progress by Netanyahu's government.
*edit* and to add, control of this area would be the death knell for Hezbollah, as it would cut off Southern Lebanon from Syria. Any Iranian smuggling operations going foreword would have to go through checkpoints controlled by Christians and the Lebanese army.
