2024 Syrian opposition offensives - The first Syrian rebel offensive against Government forces since March 2020

I know this might not be the thread to ask but does this signals that Russia is no longer a viable military to contract security/mercenary work? I know Russia and it's PMCs are still in Africa but I wonder how the fall of Syria will impact them as a reliable contractors or if opposing groups will take advantage of this.

I feel like something terrible is about to pop off in the next 24 hours...
Maybe not within 24 hours, but there are going to be conflicts for sure. The only question is will those conflicts be rapidly resolved or will we get another decade of civil war?

If Russia gets to keep the airbase in Latakia and the port in Tartus, which seems to be a possibility, it would be far more feasible to continue their shenannigans in Africa.

Its a catastrophe for any sort of Russian military work in Africa. The Air and Naval installations in Syria are essential for maintaining these efforts. The Rebels in Syria seem to know this too, so they are sending out feelers to see if Russia is willing to pay them cash and prestige for letting them stick around.

I have sources in Russia that more Or less tell me currently they are preoccupied with Ukraine and Chechnya that they really dont have a lot to spare for Syria.

Also that the North Korean Soldiers sent literally behave like retards and are almost constantly drunk, it makes Russian Soldiers treat them like dogs.

The "normative Orthodox understanding" of the identity of the Anti-Christ has been, at various times, "it's the Pope" to "Peter the Great" to "guy who makes a deal with the Jews then betrays them once they help him take over the world" to "guy who thinks he really is Christ" to "Jew from the tribe of Dan" to "vague 1990s-NWO puppetmaster who may or may not be a Jew"

Don't try to piss on me and tell me it's raining lol

In Orthodoxy there is a concept called "Typology" where things are more or less examples or "types" of things to come.

So we consider Lenin, some Popes or Nero to be types of antichrist but not THE antichrist.
Your messiah will be THE antichrist.

Im not going to shit the thread up with offtopic religious talk anymore, especially with a goofy heeb. @ me in the religion board if you like.

NATO got utterly humiliated by the Taliban taking over the country in a few months and they were further behind the curve on military equipment than these rebels. If NATO still has a reputation as a military force than Russia almost certainly does, they kept the place functional for nearly a decade now before it just withered away overnight.

Taliban only began taking over once NATO troops left, Syria still had Russians actively deployed dawg...

According to Revelations, Damascus needs to be completely destroyed (bricks turned to glass - suggesting a Nuclear weapon or a meteor) before the Ezekiel wars are supposed to begin, setting the stage for the arrival of the Antichrist. I'd say we are still a far ways out before any of that happens.
Is there anything we can do to speed this up? Before tomorrow would be ideal.

The big difference between this and Afghanistan was that NATO had washed its hands of Afghanistan months before the fall. There was never any question about the fact Kabul would stand or fall on its own merits with limited to no external support.

Its looking like the Druze have decided Israel is a preferable ruler. Remains to be seen just how "large" a buffer the IDF intends to establish in southern Syria, but if the war map is to be believed they are pushing pretty deep. The move to seize Mount Hermon and the surrounding countryside pretty much aligns with the populations of Druze in that area.

Its looking like Israel at a minimum intends to Annex the Hermon range of the Anti-Lebanon mountains. I don't see Israel pulling out of this area any time soon. Most of the people in that area are related to other Druze tribals in Golan who have been pretty loyal citizens over the past couple of Generations. This may be a state building exercise in progress by Netanyahu's government.

*edit* and to add, control of this area would be the death knell for Hezbollah, as it would cut off Southern Lebanon from Syria. Any Iranian smuggling operations going foreword would have to go through checkpoints controlled by Christians and the Lebanese army.
It is very likely Israel takes control of a bunch of territory to keep butthurt Iranian tools from doing anything rash, and provided the next government isn't all "Death to Jews at all costs" will cede it back as a "good will"/"we never wanted it anyway" gesture, or possibly extends the area that is under UN peace keeping. And if the new government is all "death to the jews" well obviously they can't give these strategically important areas to anti-semites.

Short answer: No, Wagner is still able to do their job as PMC. It might be a bit of a blow to the PR but Wagner had been scaled way back in Syria. If you need to hire guys with guns, Wagner is still as viable of a choice as it was.

longer answer: This will reduce the value of Wagner as a PMC for nations, like Sudan/Niger, who hire Wagner as a proxy for Russian support for their regimes. Wagner is also going to have some supply issues with the loss of the Syrian waystations, but as a technically non-alligned entity those problems are largely solvable via cash, but the real damage is if you are the current Head Niger In Charge who thought that hiring Wagner = Russia bails your ass out when the revolution comes, you are going to need to start rethinking that value proposition.

Apparently Assad, just..gave up.

He refused Iranian aid, ignored advice that HTs was planning something.

He was asked to open up another front against Israel and refused and basically just was placing all his eggs in the normalize ties with the gulf states basket.

Assad literally just gave up. Apparently.

Decided to throw in the towel when the pressure was on.

He gave up long ago

The rapidity of this somewhat suggests a backroom deal which, if true, means Russia will quietly sign deals to confirm the status of these bases. Don't expect the rebels will push too hard given the subsidies from the land alone will probably keep their government afloat long enough to make it permanent. Barring outside influence of course.

I don’t know why. Maybe he just never really wanted to rule. I’m sure in the future historians will wonder if he got tired of it or was just demoralized and decided he wanted to be done with it at all.

From what I read(on pro Iranian telegrams admittedly) Assad comes off as passive and resigned to losing.

He seemed to be hoping that he could normalize ties with the gulf Arabs and…he didn’t apparently want to commit to being part of the axis of resistance. He seems to have wanted to, if not leave the Iranian orbit, entirely at least become less dependent on it.

It's because he is rich. He plundered the treasury, plundered the land, and when there was nothing left to take, he left, like the locust he is. He never cared about anything but himself

Syrian Druze don't exist in one contiguous area, and an independent state in the Jabal (which has a lot of Christians and Sunnis anyways) would be tiny and have literally nothing:

Good thing they're not working on their own. As I said, the SOR, made up of Druze and their allies, currently control everything south of Damascus. The specific Druze entity in the SOR is the Al-Jabar Brigade.
