Elsewhere, coming soon is the third Baby Assassins film from director Yugo Sakamoto , starring Saori Izawa and Akari Takaishi as Mahiro and Chisato, two friends and roommates who would rather spend their days reading, watching videos, playing games, eating junk food, working out in their cramped apartment and moaning about their work responsibilities. They just happen to work for an organization that accepts assignments for hits and assigns the wetwork to their operatives. For a shadowy contract-killing brokering outfit, they prove to be as bureaucracy-bound as any "legit" business. This third film has the duo taking a trip to a resort town for an assignment and could this be the end?...well, considering that a Baby Assassins TV series is in the works...


One of the main performers in this series of films has been action director Kensuke Sonomura, one of the better action choreographers in the business.

After his younger brother Kenji, an aspiring artist with no interest in the criminal life, kills an assailant sent after Tetsu, they both go on the run and end up in rural Manchuria, where they attract the suspicion of two local gangs.

Nice to see some of Seijun's back catalog getting some love beyond the usual Tokyo Drifter/Branded to Kill duo, which good as they are, really have been talked about to death.

Definitely going to watch this. I still got some 60's and 70's Yakuza films like "Branded to Kill" and "Battles without Honor and Humanity" on an old HDD but i never got around to watching them yet.

Highly recommend Battles without Honor and Humanity if you have the time for it. Easily my favorite Yakuza series. Also check out Graveyard of Honor if you want something a bit quicker. Great story about a self-destructive thug.

Only watched the Miike remake but i liked it a lot, been meaning to watch the original for ages. Shame that i went through all my burner accounts on Avistaz or i would watch a lot more japanese movies, they have stuff on the tracker that you'll find literally nowhere else.
 
I watched Furiosa two nights ago.

It’s incredibly Mid, the best parts about it was act 2 which had the most action, the movie really falls off in the third act and becomes a weird character study type of film.

I’m not a nitpicking fag but the one thing that bothered me was that Furiosa had her hair long while she was trying to disguise her gender as a male mechanic and then kept it long when she became a road warrior. I don’t know why but this point bothered me so much that it broke my immersion from the film more than a couple of times
 
Saw Ronin again (it have been years since I saw it) and it still holds up.
For being a late 90s action movie, it is still very tight and you can see that Frankenhemier knew what he was doing when he filmed the action.
No damn CGI, De Niro, Skarsgård, Sean Bean and fucking Jean Reno make it an excellent movie.
 
Watched some pretty good ones lately. Highly recommend all of these.

Adventures in Babysitting (1987)

This movie was pretty much the one film that I recognized as being overshadowed by Home Alone, which is disappointing because it was actually a pretty fun family-friendly comedy that was the best example of ”popcorn entertainment“ and kid-friendly shenanigans that you’d expect from the 80’s. I’d recommend anyone to watch this for the simple fact that there was a time when living in Chicago in the 80’s wasn’t that bad, and plus Elisabeth Shue was a thing.

 
Some movies I saw recently

Wheels of Fortune (2020)
This movie felt like it was made in the 2000s but was made relatively recently. It also feels like something Mike Judge would have made but apparently he had nothing to do with this. It's not a great film or anything but it's like something to watch if your stuck in a hotel or something.

BlackBerry (2023)
Very good movie. I like how the first act was about a business jock tard wrangling 90s era geeks and nerds. The second act was the BlackBerry phone the way you remembered it and the third was the characters going through coping sessions over the launch of the first iphone.

The Stand at Praxton County (2020)
Good movie. It's a movie that everyone in American has to go and see to understand the world we live in today.

Edge of the World (2021)
The film feels like seeing a unicorn. It's a movie that openly celebrates White people for being White people. It's about James Brooke and how a White guy became the King of the Sarawak Kingdom in Malaysia nearly 200 years ago. Outside of the the quality of camera and sound, this movie feels like the films of the 1960s like Lawrence of Arabia, 55 days at Peking, Zulu, and Khartoum. Highly recommended watch.

Pepsi, Where's My Jet? (2022)
Netflix documentaries tend to be bad but this one was actually good. It's definitely a compelling watch especially if your too young to remember the events described in the documentary series. It's also a fun celebration of youth.

I recommend Fallen too and my current pfp is from it. Critics were pretty retarded about it having a lot of things that were seen in previous movies. Well, duh. It was done pretty well. Had a couple really good Stones songs in it (including the one in my quote). Had John Goodman in it, making it presumptively awesome.

Thoroughly enjoyable movie. The 'Time Is On My Side' scene has been stuck in my head for years.
 
Rewatched Blue Ruin this evening, it had been a while since I had seen it.

What a great little movie. It's one of those few movies that I think sets out all its goals and accomplishes them.

It's so easy to screw up a revenge story by being heavy handed, but I think this one handles everything perfectly. Bonus points for handling violence the way it does, everything is visceral but believable.

Fallen is a dope movie.
Very underrated film.
Anyway, I saw Heat again for the 103 time and it is still an amazing film.
It is almost 3 hours long, but it earns that runtime.
I have grown to love Al Pachino charchter Vincent, even if he is super damn hammy. The scenes with his step daughter is really nice and shows more depth to him.

Point is, if you don't like Heat then you are a sodomite who hate good movies.
I am actually listning to the audio book of Heat 2 so I will tell what I think about it when I am done with it.

Heat is still unparalleled when it comes to gun sound effects in a movie, absolutely perfect. Apparently he used on set mics to capture it all.
My uncle had an insanely good home cinema setup, he would use the bank shootout scene to show it off to people, I swear it felt like the bullets were zipping over your head.
