If that cuckmann game doesn't deliver, or wolverine fails their Disney requirement, I can see two studios going.

I can't see Insomniac being killed off. Even if Woverine fails, Ratchet and Clank is still kind of popular. From those leaks Rift Apart needed two million copies to break even, and it sold twice that. They're not in the same position as Naughty Dog, where they're seemingly on purpose making games people hate and taking almost a decade to do so.

During the Insomniac leaks weren't there something about how much their Marvel games have to sell to be keep getting Disneys blessing?

Wolverine better deliver.

I love seeing all these "gamers" praising som, keeper, kiln - like... Those are games that should cost 5m max and developed in 2 years. Not the budgets they had.

It's not about what's popular or not (so it would seem at least), but Microsoft/Sony is clearly looking at

Cost of Product = Profit from Product

No idea if the Spiderman games sell well or not, but, they seem really samey and boring to me. Using the Spiderman IP (and now Wolverine) cannot be cheap and churning out 3 spider-man games inside of like 5 years feels like insane levels of saturation (along with a remaster, which, lol).

Ninja Theory got shut down. So what will happen to their new Hellblade game?

https://archive.ph/DHyZ8

Xbox is closing down Ninja Theory, the studio behind the Hellblade series, a source tells The Verge. Staffers were told on a call on Monday about the closure, but they are hoping the studio will find a buyer. The closure comes as “several” Xbox studios at Microsoft, including Compulsion Games and Double Fine, are in “active negotiations” about spinning off, Bloomberg reports.

The closure and negotiations follow Xbox CEO Asha Sharma and chief content officer Matt Booty warning last week of a “reset” at Xbox, laying out several challenges facing Xbox’s business — including that it had “over extended” with its studio system and the hardware component crisis is significantly driving up prices. Kotaku reported earlier on Monday that Microsoft was planning to shut down Compulsion, though it noted in an update that studio leadership was in “negotiations” with Microsoft.

Sharma has made many major decisions since taking over at Xbox in February, including locking down Gears of War: E-Day and Clockwork Revolution as Xbox console exclusives in an announcement at its Xbox Games Showcase just over a week ago. During that event, Microsoft also revealed a new Hellblade game, Senua, and its future with this change is unclear.

Xbox didn’t immediately reply to a request for comment.
Two (potential) studio deaths not long after the rumor about studio closures started, how long until they end up gutting every studio that isn't ActiBlizz or a similarly large corporation like it

It's hilarious to see people mourning the great loss of these studios on reddit. I wish I had the special power to see all their gaming accounts and see how much time they put into Hellblade 2, South of midnight, or Keeper. A lot of these games were literally vanity projects for no one, and the leadership at xbox basically let these studios do whatever they wanted during the era of just throwing stuff on game pass and hoping for the best, and those were the games that actually came out. Let's not forget Perfect Dark (cancelled), State of decay 3 (alpha stage 5 years after announcement) and Blade (a good 3 years and no gameplay trailer).

P.S. Asha if your reading this can you still make that Hexen game I was implicitly promised when Phil wore the Hexen t-shirt?

If that was the case they wouldn't be trying to one-up each other in who can make the uglier female character.

By no metric do the devs under MicroSoft's or Sony's banner operate with the goal of making a profit. If they did, they wouldn't be making the games they're making, or marketing them the way they do.

GoW: Laufey is a game for no one. The target audience will asspat the devs on social media, and then proceed to not buy the game, while the people that actually do financially support the hobby are disgusted by the virtue signaling tranny slop and ugly Karen protagonist.

By now most people have learned, via pattern recognition, to tell when a game is for the "modern audience", and to peace out.

Interstellar is a game for no one as well - no one is going to line up to play an ugly, bald, androgynous chink lesbian. Wolverine is actively hostile towards the people that might actually want to play it.

Same goes with pretty much every turd MS has greenlit since their modern gaming push. Just about the only company that seems to understand what audiences want was id, and even they eventually succumbed to the pozzing.

MS and Sony have nothing, no killer app in the pipeline that people are genuinely excited for. Some may claim TES VI could be it, but the game has been in dev hell for close to a decade now, with no sign of being anywhere near completion, and when it eventually comes out, it will be the same Bethesda slop everyone has played through half a dozen times already.

We are basically witnessing a gaming crash in slow-motion. Hundreds of Western studios have closed by now, most due to entirely avoidable, self-inflicted flops, tens of thousands of Western gamedevs have been laid off, most unlikely to ever find another job in the industry because it has shrunk so much, and what positions there are will either go to the most competent, or the most nepotistic candidate.

There's no recovering from this unless drastic changes are made and management begins a through purge of leftist activists at every level, but that's not likely to happen because management is equally infected with the mind virus.

Meanwhile China, Korea and a resurgent Japan are looming on the horizon.

Spider-Man 2 barely broke even, and that's likely only because of Sony accounting fuckery.

Actually, it's even more interesting than that. There's been some indie games coming out of Indonesia and Thailand as well.

While KuloNiku Bowl Up and Lost and Found Co aren't exactly going to set the world alight, they've been well received. (Plus they probably cost a lot less than $400 million to develop)

There's a decent chance of it being a eastern Asian-focused industry looming on the horizon, not just CKJ.

Maybe Amy will hire her old ND friends and cuckmann will just drink himself to death.
Insomniac? No. Ratchet's is the only Sony mascot still kicking around, and Rift Apart shows they could still do a platformer that can make a profit. If Sony starts cracking heads they'll just be confined to tighter budgets and crunch time will make a reappearance. Maybe the Marvel IPs being put on the backburner.

Naughty Dog? I want to say no, too, but I feel they have an ego where they'd push back against Sony's decisions if they found them to be undesirable. How long can you ride on Last of Us remasters? Do they have it in them still to make a smaller, more traditional game? Can they do something like a Crash or a Jak and Daxter? Probably not.

Studios like Housemarque, Bend Studio, and maybe Sucker Punch would be the ones to drop first.

I think this is the funniest outcome out of all this. Microsoft bought all of these studios, said "alright guys do what you want as long as it's good" and then five years later we realise that those studios when given an almost unlimited budget and unlimited time... produce fuck all of value.

Every single one of these studios that gets closed down deserves it. I don't care how good these studios were in the past, it's obvious as hell those teams don't exist anymore and it's just existing name recognition being the reason gamers will froth at the mouth about Ninja Theory or Arkane or whatever getting shitcanned.

about Ninja Theory or Arkane or whatever getting shitcanned
Ninja Theory's last good (or at least not actively repulsive) game was Enslaved all the way back in 2013. They've made nothing of value since, and I still don't quite understand how they didn't go out of business after nearly 15 years of flop after flop.

Arkane's last good game was, uh, Prey? I mean, it's a neat game, but dear God does the lesbian subplot ruin the experience massively. Prey was released in 2017, and since then they've proceeded to make shit.

Death of the Outsider not only sold like ass, but killed the Dishonored franchise. The first game received several DLCs that all sold well, D2 only got the nigger dyke experience, and everyone was very quiet about its alleged success.

After that it was time for some Wolfenstein slop, and arguably what also killed that dogshit franchise (rest in fucking piss) with Youngblood.

Then it was time for another thrilling nigger experience, because we all know how much audiences love to look and listen to niggers all the time. Suffice to say Deathloop didn't do them any favors.

And finally we get to Redfall, which was also a dogshit game nobody wanted or bought.

They've now spent the better part of a decade releasing flops, ruining all their existing franchises and alienating their costumer base.

It's a testament to how heavily subsidized all these woke studios are by taxpayer and venture capital money, that market forces were not allowed to crush them for their incompetence.

But now it really seems that supporting so many of them, when none are making any actual profit, has become so unsustainable that a culling is in order.

True but Microsoft would own all this IP that they would just sit/shit on. Yeah I don't care about Outer Worlds, but I want Alpha Protocol II dammit and the pajeeta will never go for that.

I'm just curious about what a buyout or whatever other negotiations they are having. Sure it worked for the Evil Within guys, but say it comes to Ninja Theory. No way they have any money to themselves, looking at their library I dont think they have ever had an actual hit. Hell DMC might be their best selling game. So then what? Embracer going gay for Senua? Sure maybe, but anyone else what would they be buying? Heavenly Sword is likely a Sony IP, Enslaved is just a spin on journey to the West. Double Fine has more IPs but also more shit that no one played then you have Arkane and their IPs are likely all under Bethesda (aka MS) and I dont see MS being like "Sure have Dishonored when you go". To me Double Fine is the only one that makes sense as surviving this as even if they get shitcanned the devs are just gonna regroup and try again under a different name.
