By no metric do the devs under MicroSoft's or Sony's banner operate with the goal of making a profit. If they did, they wouldn't be making the games they're making, or marketing them the way they do.

GoW: Laufey is a game for no one. The target audience will asspat the devs on social media, and then proceed to not buy the game, while the people that actually do financially support the hobby are disgusted by the virtue signaling tranny slop and ugly Karen protagonist.

By now most people have learned, via pattern recognition, to tell when a game is for the "modern audience", and to peace out.

Interstellar is a game for no one as well - no one is going to line up to play an ugly, bald, androgynous chink lesbian. Wolverine is actively hostile towards the people that might actually want to play it.

Same goes with pretty much every turd MS has greenlit since their modern gaming push. Just about the only company that seems to understand what audiences want was id, and even they eventually succumbed to the pozzing.

MS and Sony have nothing, no killer app in the pipeline that people are genuinely excited for. Some may claim TES VI could be it, but the game has been in dev hell for close to a decade now, with no sign of being anywhere near completion, and when it eventually comes out, it will be the same Bethesda slop everyone has played through half a dozen times already.

We are basically witnessing a gaming crash in slow-motion. Hundreds of Western studios have closed by now, most due to entirely avoidable, self-inflicted flops, tens of thousands of Western gamedevs have been laid off, most unlikely to ever find another job in the industry because it has shrunk so much, and what positions there are will either go to the most competent, or the most nepotistic candidate.

There's no recovering from this unless drastic changes are made and management begins a through purge of leftist activists at every level, but that's not likely to happen because management is equally infected with the mind virus.

Meanwhile China, Korea and a resurgent Japan are looming on the horizon.
Why contain it? Let the AAA studios die so that more like Sandfall interactive can pop up.

It's not about virtue signaling (although they obviously do it) but the games are generally just unfun and derivative.

In the end - everyone is willing to overlook a lot of things if the game itself is fun (ex - Baldur's Gate 3, Expedition 33, etc) but most large studio output is stale and terrible where most of the games just feel very samey - to a point where they're just remastering the same game again either directly or indirectly. God of War Laufey will be mediocre not because it has a woman as the main character, it will be very mid because it will feel like a retread of God of War Ragnarok (which was a retread of God of War reboot, which was a light reset of God of War). There's only so far you can run with with the light combat of God of War, even if you can jump now.

The games aren't fun or good - they don't generate sales or gamepass subs, the studios are getting closed. It's a painful lesson that everyone saw coming 10 years ago that's finally coming to fruition now - and hopefully it shakes up the Game Dev meta to a point where good games start getting made with some regularity again.

I hope so too but they won't - they actually geared up and executed what Microsoft wanted them to do - push out a middle of the road game every year or two for Gamepass. They might literally be the only MS studio that's performing to MS's guidelines.
 
MS buying a bunch of studios, letting them produce one or two games that end up free on Gamepass on release day then shuttering them because their games didn't sell well is fucking hilarious.
I mean it's obvious to everyone except the terminally retarded that when your boss says you have all the time in the world to do things, you should PROBABLY be managing multiple projects at once so you can bash out a 7/10 action game every year so you can work on your longer term pet project.

When EVERY FUCKING Microsoft company was just biding time while their ambitious pet project was wasting more and more money, you see the big issue. Half these companies could have coasted off Microsoft's dime if only they'd released SOMETHING every now and again, now it's too late and they're potentially getting let go in a time where no other publisher is willing to pay for their ambitious wasting of money.

It's fantastic, we're already in the 'cope' mode where a lot of these developers believe they can continue as standalone development teams without Microsoft, ignoring that their entire budget is based on Microsoft bailing them out. They're on the verge of a death spiral the moment they're cut loose.

Not really, they haven't made a commercially successfully game in about a decade.

If you're a moneyman looking to cut dead weight a studio that's produced flops for a decade straight seems like an obvious choice.

Outer Worlds 2 cost over 200 million and allegedly only sold around 800k copies so it was a mega flop.
 
Hellblade was always strange to me they didn't need a sequel they are glorified walking sim about a mentally ill women screaming and hearing voices in her head

Hellblade was ok but the combat was very basic and it suffered from the usual thing with modern AAA games where you start to get annoyed by the forced slow-walking bits while plot is spoken at you/cutscenes that happen every few minutes.

I spend an awful lot of time playing big releases thinking "Ok, yeah, yup, i got it. Can i have more videogame now, thanks?"

Western devs could do with a few more lessons in "show, don't tell".

Inasmuch as we like to hate on old kotick he was totally right about western devs (he called out horrid doublefine in particular) being unprofessional, coddled toddlers who need to be driven like a horse to get any work done. The deeply ingrained gay race communism rot inside these companies (their HR departments in particular) aside it’s astounding how unproductive they’ve all become. What’s especially sad is that many of these retards that get fired just get bumped somewhere else (maybe as contractors but nonetheless), so much so that we’re going to need the whole of western AAA to die to permanently root these people out. With CJK’s proud crunch culture and general commitment to actually serving the customer it seems we’re on the verge of that happening.
 
I'm just curious about what a buyout or whatever other negotiations they are having. Sure it worked for the Evil Within guys, but say it comes to Ninja Theory. No way they have any money to themselves, looking at their library I dont think they have ever had an actual hit. Hell DMC might be their best selling game. So then what? Embracer going gay for Senua? Sure maybe, but anyone else what would they be buying? Heavenly Sword is likely a Sony IP, Enslaved is just a spin on journey to the West. Double Fine has more IPs but also more shit that no one played then you have Arkane and their IPs are likely all under Bethesda (aka MS) and I dont see MS being like "Sure have Dishonored when you go". To me Double Fine is the only one that makes sense as surviving this as even if they get shitcanned the devs are just gonna regroup and try again under a different name.
I've heard that Ninja Theory has a a mo-cap studio that several other developers use. Maybe they'd buy it for the tech.

Doubt they purge Bethesda/Zenimax since ESO and F76 still make money (more so then freaking World of Warcraft now days). But i can imagine them cracking the wipe to release ES6 and Fallout 5 as soon as possible.
