I don't mind Disney poking some fun at the Disney Princesses. But there's a certain point where things get too meta and too mean-spirited. And, of course, "too woke." I loved my Princesses JUST FINE before people wanted to transform them into feminist heroes. Jesus H. Christ.
You know who one of my all-time favorite princesses is? Giselle from Enchanted. She's a parody of the Disney Princesses, essentially ... But Enchanted WORKS. Why? Because Amy Adams played the character earnestly, without any hints of cynicism or any obvious "winks" at the audience. Instead of her being annoying, she was absolutely charming and you absolutely wanted to root for her throughout the movie even when she made you laugh. Her innocence and charm melted the cynicism away from a lot of the characters in the movie. Again, IT WORKED. That's how you do a parody while still showcasing respect for the brand!
btw, huge-ass plothole in the movie when you view it as a sequel (which ... It IS a sequel):
Vanellope went Turbo, and the movie treated it like it was a good thing for her to do so ...
