It's more behavioral to me than anything else. Most of the time the people that get called midwits are being purposefully obtuse because it's more convenient to them than questioning why they believe/support something and because sometimes acting like a monkey during arguments is a default win because the other person ends up looking more retarded for trying to reason with you.
