What makes a midwit? And how to tell? - How do you know if you or someone else is also a midwit?

On the other hand, someone who has the brain power to disagree could be a contrarian who has no real objections aside from not liking you/something related to your stance/something unrelated.
Are you not assuming that a contrarian will argue for the sake of it regardless of their intelligence? If you look around, you will find many examples of people with extensive knowledge in the most useless shit imaginable. Cartoon probably being number 1.

I am a contrarian and I think I am winning this argument in bad faith we're having; Because even if it's unrelated to the OP, you know I am right

I hear this a lot on the kiwifarms, but want people to define it more. Discuss!
If you want a technical definition, midwits are, typically, people in the 110-125 IQ range who are used to being 1. The Smartest Person in the Room/Teachers Pet types and 2. Wrap the core of their personal identity in their intelligence. They generally conflate the concept of Smart with Intelligent, assume that being smart is the same thing as being right. They are correct because they are smart. And because their personal identity is wrapped up in Smart = Right = Good, they can't ever admit they're wrong, because Dumb = Wrong = Bad. Not every 110-125 is a midwit, in fact that's probably the ideal range for intelligence to be practically useful, but you'll find it in people whose intelligence is the only thing they have going for them.

Typically associated with Reddit and Redditors because they love to hang out there. Early 2000s Internet Atheist Fedora Neckbeard types are some of the most obvious ones, also Grammar Nazis and most Well Acktually types.

Some obvious tells

- Reads books but they're all nonfiction or porn
- Constantly quotes statistics and studies
- "Just let people enjoy things"
- Constantly talks about politics, even to people who don't give a shit
- Is an atheist because "If there was a god why would he let people suffer?" or something similar
- Defers to authority and consensus by default instead of forming their own opinion about anything

The simplest definition is that midwits are victims of the Dunning-Kruger effect. They think they know everything about a topic, but in reality they only know what the hugbox they inhabit says about the topic.

Midwit is a nice insult when you use it against someone who thinks they're smart

Nothing hurts more the pseudo intellectual than being called average

Why nonfiction?

Why nonfiction?
The category includes things like self-help, pop science, pop history, pop politics, and celebrity memoirs. Proto-reddit boomers ate all of these up like flies swarming to a fresh heap of shit because zxhey all wanted to Win Friends and Influence People by substituting the sum total of these types of books for a personality. Contemporary midwit redditors follow in zxheir footsteps.

There's a difference between reading those types of books and being autistically obsessed with nonfiction topics. A deep biography of an artist whose works you enjoy is a different beast from some moronic self help book.
