I don't test 1RM every workout. But I do it often. And I do it in my basement with no reason to ego lift, and nobody there to immediately help if I am dying. Still alive, uninjured.

Just know what to do if you fail, and don't jump immediately to max weight. Warmup, make small jumps in weight, do 1-2 reps as you progress up in weight, and bail way before you go unconscious or trap yourself. It's not worth doing all the time, but it's fun knowing my limits.
 
bwaj. i haven't been exercising like i normally would ever since i got a concussion a few weeks ago. my regular intensity of workout is too hard on my system now and i can only really do stupid light exercises. on top of that my bar is fucked so i can't lift like i normally can anyway.

this fucking sucks, it feels terrible physically and mentally. how much would someone half to hate themself to willingly live this way? fuck!

OHP probably contributed to your concussion even if it wasn't the thing that ultimately caused it.

Push up sports bras, makeup and yoga pants with the butt scrunch so tight you can see the labia majora AND minora are not required equipment to go lift.

Don't stand in the middle of 4 cable machines and do 5 pound cable kickbacks while bent over a bench like a baboon doing a mating display.

You don't need to set up a tripod and a circle light in the gym to record yourself doing a 1 plate squat.

These are all things I've seen women do in the gym so I feel the need to mention them.

Aside from that just pick up heavy stuff and have fun.

There's no such thing as "toning" workouts, and you will never become too big from working out your arms/upper body, so don't skip out on it. Also if you do deadlift and manage to uncontrollably piss yourself on the gym floor, please clean it up afterwards. That is all.

1) don't dress like a skank (see pic related. Change the dress with a tshirt and pants/leggings with short on top that follows those rule)
2) if you wanna just get a big ass do hip thrusts with your feet behind your knees until you die. You don't need any other movement.
3) if you wanna have some strength and general well roundedness, you should generally train with higher rep ranges (12 to 15) with less weight than males, since women get less fatigued
4) be more specific on the gym advice you want

no. Do any variety of curl with a supinated or neutral grip (cable, dumbbell, machine, barbell)
Don’t listen to this faggot. This is essential gym kit for women and brightens up the gym.

Going to start training my calves 4x a week instead of 2x a week. They're already pretty decent but I wonder how volume will effect them and it's an easy muscle to train
iirc Arnold had always been a proponent of hitting calves every session.

nah but they will hit your core and all the other cool shit. I like barbell curls but even with no extra weight they might be a bit much for an untrained woman since women lag behind men in upper body strength. Do lat pull downs with your palms facing back to you and seated cable rows and those will get a little bit of extra bicep work

  • Try lifts before judging if they're "fun" or not.
  • You're probably better off following a basic program rather than picking your own lifts until you're more experienced.
  • Track your progress, implement progressive overload
  • Pay a lot of attention to your form when you're doing new lifts, get used to moving your body correctly before you start heavily exerting yourself.
  • Put effort into your lifts (once your form is good). If you're not struggling you're not growing.
